This is the place to go for french food done extremely well. The menu is simple: come for the eggs benedict. We've just been here for the fourth time. We always try to get here each time we are in Montreal. This time there was a short line outside!! We've never understood why we were able to so easily get into such a small place that made food so well. Looks like the secret is out. It is well worth the wait!

After a short 20 minute wait for a table we were seated at the counter next to the barista. It was worth the wait! We had delicious Eggs Benedict, the BAB. Wow, so good. The hostess, the waitress and the barista were all super friendly. We enjoyed watching the barista turn each latte into a work of art with the steamed milk.

Worst place in town!
Well, I had to read some previous comments about this place more carefully.
We were visiting the city during Grand Prix weekend and decided to stop at this place for breakfast.
I specifically asked the waitress about a waiting time (as we were heading to F1 race) and she assured me that the waiting time will not take more than 20 min. It took almost an hour! We noticed that they let groups of 2 in without any waiting time and suggested to them to put two tables together to minimize the wait time for groups more than 2 and improve their customer service.
As a result of this extremely negative experience, we didn't tip them at the end of the service.
The waiter with a metal triangle piercing in her nose, became very angry and even aggressive! She grabbed the water and our glasses from our table and told us that we need to leave the place immediately!
I really hope that the management of this place will read my comments and take the right action.
You cannot create artificial waiting lines as a free advertisement of your place. You also should be careful with who you hire and need to be aware of what's going on in your place in your absence.
What a shame to the city of Montreal!

A small local restaurant well worth a visit especially for brunch or breakfast. They have great coffee and the best eggs benedict anywhere! I was very impressed. Service was very good.

This restaurant seems like it is just a block off the tourist track which made it all the better find. Le Vieux Velo was the tastiest and most affordable breakfast we had while in Montreal. We tried two different eggs Benedict, le florentine and le B.A.B. Both came with a small bowl of greens with a simple oil and vinegar dressing as well as a small side of homemade pan fries. Let’s just say our plates were completely clean when the server came to clear. We loved the slightly retro vibe, the cleanliness and the neighbourhood feel. We will absolutely seek this gem out on our next visit.

We had not visited Le Vieux Velo for a long time so it was time to visit again since we were visiting that part of the island. The queue was short and after 15 minutes were shown to a table. The coffee was really good, and then we ordered food. The benedictines are the speciality here. Unfortunately it took about 30 minutes to arrive. This is a lively small restaurant with good food but service can be sloe. Get there early!

My friend and I arrived around 9:30am on a Saturday morning and were able to score the 2nd to last table. Both the cappuccino and filtered coffee were very good (my friend is familiar with coffee roasting), and we both had different versions of eggs Benny. The staff was very friendly and efficient, despite a large group and families also there. Very affordable, and very devious, esp. the home fries.

Great spot for brunch (without the grease) particularly for poached eggs. The accompanying bread is fantastic! To round out the meal experience, order an espresso-type coffee.

It is a cozy restaurant with a nice ambiance and decoration. The service is good.
Comparing to all breakfast places I tried in Montreal, this is an average/good place.
I tried La Florentine for 11.00C$ which was good but nothing special. Coffee was good but again nothing extraordinary.

The short wait reveals the restaurant is in cahoots with a nearby cafe (Odessa) where one could wait out of the Montreal cold (and wind) while sipping coffee. The maitre ‘d met us there and offered up immediate seats at the bar, and Giffy and I were excited to have a view of their espresso machine, and small bar where we had them mix up some sweet savvy mimosa that bubbled our taste buds. We ordered the varieties of eggs Benedict and with aplomb they were delivered with an appropriate interval by tatted, fun, tech savvy, youthful waitstaff who asked our approval and checked on our needs. The restaurant was a happening, attractive, simple, busy place that sets a pace for other breakfast establishments. yumm

I was really looking forward to my breakfast, this Tuesday morning, on my day off. I even woke up early, to avoid the crowds. I'm definitely not an early riser, but something about today made me crave this breakfast and time alone with a new book.
Without realizing what time it was, I discovered I was 15 minutes early. While pacing outside, on the icy sidewalk, in the below 14 temperature, I saw someone walk in so I followed suit.
I, and only I, was very quickly told that I'd have to wait outside or go next door to wait out the 10 minutes.
I couldn't believe I was told to wait outside with just 10 minutes left to opening (please note I have worked in restaurants and risk of danger, such as counting the cah, was NOT an issue).
I've enjoyed coming here, in the past, but their way of raising positive emotions for their clients took a dive for the worst today. Their lack of gratitude, for repeat customers, by a simple and non-costly way (of allowing me to wait inside), not only put me in a negative mood, but cost them a client.
On a brighter note, I'm glad to say this experience helped me discover a new place, not too far away, which offers better service and phenomenal coffee (see my review of Café Grain D'Or).
I guess everything happens for a reason, right?

I have never regretted having breakfast here. Their menu changes seasonally, the mimosas are great! The decor reminds me of the good times in elementary school. Service impeccable. There may be a slight wait outside during the weekend but other than that, go for it :)

We had to wait a bit for a table as it is a small place but very popular. The waitress who served us was very pleasant. I went for the eggs florentine which came with bacon and hash browns with a latte. Really enjoyed the meal. A lively atmosphere too as everyone was enjoying their breakfast.

We really wanted brunch somewhere close to our Airbnb and saw good reviews for the vieux vélo and decided to check it out. What a great find! It definitely had a great local vibe, the food was top notch, and we loved that we could wait in the coffee shop next door. (Because when you need coffee, you need coffee.) All three of us ordered something different and not a one was disappointed. It ended up being one of our favorite meals of the whole trip! If you're in the area and looking for some brunchy goodness, it's an excellent choice.
