Montreal is an amazing place to shop and site see, eat and drink (party), enjoy the outdoors and search out it's History. Great clothing and clothing stores, fashion, the furs, and the beautiful people add to the trip. Especially walking around Old Montreal with the original buildings and cobblestone streets. A romantic place to fall in love with a city... More

Based on TripAdvisor reviews and the location near our hotel, we dined at Verses on Monday September 22. We were quite disappointed with the experience. One member of our party of 4 ordered the scallop trio appetizer. When we realized diners near our table who had been seated well after us were receiving their entrees we inquired about the status... Leonard Cohen hit the nail on the head when he named his city this. Montreal radiates a mysterious religious energy. From the mighty cross on Mount Royal, to the heavenly ceiling of Notre Dame Cathedral, to the savory smoked meat on St. Laurent Boulevard and the indomitable dedication of the Hasidic Jews in Outremont, Montreal is a strange juxtaposition of... I grew up in this area, about 5 minutes away, and it’s amazing to see how they came up with such a lovely restaurant concept in this old fire station in the Angus Shops. Nice choice between have a meal on the nice and sort of secretive patio or inside where the decor is absolutely beautiful. Meals are well presented... More

My husband and I spent a few days in Montreal in June. We were pleasantly surprised how friendly everyone was! We were worried we would experience some difficulty because we don't speak any French, but all the locals, shoptenders, bartenders and servers were helpful, pleasant, and spoke English! :-) St Catherine's street was amazing and had no shortage of shops,... Only been opened a few months and set in an old renovated fire station. Food was superb, the decor and atmosphere delightful and some of the friendliest staff you'll meet. Just down the road from the Olympic arena so great if you're this end of town. Opened 7 days a week. A great find.

Good menu choices and best fries every with curd cheese and gravy (Poutine) My personal Fav is the Chicken Souvlaki. They also have burgers, smoked meat, and lots of family favorites. The service is excellent. They don't accept credit cards so keep extra cash on hand!

Visited during Christmas, it was so cold. 19th-century architecture and street names like Rue St Denis and Rue Saint Sulpice. I’m in Canada, but this quasi-European, culturally French city makes me feel intercontinental.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
