The food, service and atmosphere is is excellent. It is an elegant restaurant with pretty decor, lots of velvet drapery that fits with the Russian theme of this restaurant. Real linen napkins and nice glasses and cutlery add to it's elegant feel. The service is...perfect everything comes in a timely fashion and nothing is forgotten. The food is very good and I especially loved the "Solianka" soup and the "Medovik" cake. Go and enjoy especially if the live music is on.More

This is what I told the lady that is in front of the business. The service was as good as the food they offer. Service was very friendly and correct. We had been there for the first time long time ago, but we do not...live in Montreal so it had been a long time for our second visit.Shame we do not live in Montreal! We had a couple of appetizers (marinated mushrooms and avocado filled with shrimps) both were very tasty. We also had Beef Stroganoff and Chicken Kiev which were also very good. Portions reasonable, price more than reasonable.More

We were coming back from the St. Joseph Oratory looking for a place to eat. We noticed this restaurant, because it had a menu in the window with a 3 course lunch for a fixed, very reasonable price. We were seated and ordered the first...course, the soup. Two of us had borscht and 2 the other soup they had. The waitress (I think she was the owner) brought 3 borschts and 1 of the other soups. It took forever to get the 2nd soup. She came by several times to apologize. Not sure why it should take so long to get a bowl of soup, but literally, it was at least 15 minutes. The rest of the courses we had no problems with. At the end, she brought the gentleman who had to wait for his soup a peace offering, a bowl of fruit sorbet. I thought that was a nice gesture. The only negative, other than waiting for the soup for 15 minutes, was the price of the beer. We ordered the Russian beer and were surprised that it cost CD$9.50 for a bottle. That was a bit steep. However, with the price of the lunch being what it was, I can't really fault them for making it up with the price of the beer. One of our party is allergic to eggs and the owner was very careful to make sure that everything he ordered was good for him. Their bread was amazing and it was constantly refilled.More

We were looking for somewhere to have a late dinner after an unexpectedly long visit to Saint Joseph's Oratory. Unfamiliar with the neighborhood, we wanted a small, quiet place with cuisine we'd never tried before. After scouring online reviews we settled on Ermitage and we...are so glad we did! We had the tasting menu, which was perfect, and our hostess (who I think was one of the owners) was an absolute delight. The restaurant interior is charming and cozy, and the food was unlike anything we'd ever had; everything homemade, very tasty and filling and presented with great care and attention. Highly recommended!More

My best childhood friend from Toronto came to visit me this week. We hiked on Mount Royal and visited St. Joseph's oratory. Ermitage restaurant is just a few meters from the oratory. My ancestry is slavic, so I wanted to impress my friend with traditional...Russian food my Baba used to make for me when I was a little girl. Ermitage was a perfect choice. Galina, our gracious hostess, took care of us. She seated us at the best table at the window. She recommended 2 soups to start. "Okroshka" (chilled cucumber soup with dill, radishes, egg, yoghurt). It was SO refreshing after a hot Summer day. The Borstch was the best I ever had (sorry Baba). Then we ate pirozhki, 3 kinds: meat, cabbage and potato. The dough was light and airy, the fillings were full of savory flavour. Wow! Then we had chilled vodka shots with a plate of brined pickles... the cold vodka shots went down super easy. For our main meal we had chicken Kiev... it was fabulous. Gorgeous presentation too! We had 2 desserts, the Tvorok (cheese blintz) and a Medovic (honey cake). Both desserts were beyond wonderful. Galina made us feel at home. She knew I wanted to impress my friend and she certainly accomplished that! My friend visited St.Petersburg 2 years ago and said that she couldn't remember any meals she ate, BUT the meal we shared at Ermitage was something she will NEVER forget. It was the best meal she had in 2019. I agree. I love this place and will always return for any excuse I can find... birthday, anniversary, get together, any time! Thank you Galjna!!!More

I ate here with a friend during a recent trip to Montreal from Toronto. The service was amazing (the hostess and chef own the restaurant), but the food was exceptional. We had a chilled soup called okroshka and a traditional borscht. Excellent! As well as...the chicken Kiev. The vodka shots with pickle chasers were a must and were refreshingly smooth. The traditional honey cake, called medovik, was a showstopper. An 8-layer cake with walnuts and wild cherries that was made in-house. Perfect way to end the meal. Better dining experience than I had in St Petersburg, Russia.More

The food is great, the place is small and cozy, and the atmosphere with the live musicians is really something special. You feel just like in Eastern Europe, and the music is actually good. I danced a lot. It's been a while since I had...such a good time in a restaurant!!! And the vodka selection is great. :) Thank you so much.More

We discovered this restaurant entirely accidentally and when we arrived at 7 PM we were the first table seating so we had the restaurant entirely to our selves. Quality of service continued even as the restaurant filled up over the evening. Delicious food and wonderful...ambiance caring and helpful service. Ideal location within walking distance of Saint Josephs Oratory which looks especially beautiful lit up at night after a meal!More

Booked specially for our anniversary. Popular with local Russians for family celebrations (there was a large family birthday that night). Intimate, elegant space. Service is attentive yet unobtrusive. Menu selections are Russian classics: Kiev, pierozhki, borscht etc. Very nice presentation, fresh and flavourful. Just before...my Kiev was placed, the server considerately released the butter so I would not end up squirting myself. Nice touch. As the evening wore down we were invited to join in the birthday celebration with dancing and much toasting. Definitely a treat if you want a bit of old world yet elegant dining.More
