La Tamalera has gluten free Mexican food and is famous for their Al Pastor. I ordered beef Suadero and fish Tibu Tacos. The EV charging spot is just outside, steps uphill from Fairmount Bagels and Kem Coba sorbet (Caffe Grazie Mille) facing Pinkita/Standard drinks (boissons)…For a two-in-one dining experience, it’s debit or cash only for Drogheria: gnocchi Della Nonna there, if you like $5 takeout. La Tamalera also sells Mexican beaded jewellery and drinks, Jamaican condiments, and I bought a tub of salsa to go. It’s a tiny but fairly accessible location; and though the food isn’t brought to your table, the small servings were fresh and tasty. Cards are accepted, and bring your own plastic bag if you want to stock up on containers of homemade hot sauce!

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Montreal so far! With all the right colors, friendly smiles and quirky decorative elements. The horchata of the day is invariably fabulous and my favorite may forever remain their Sincronizada Poblana. They also make excellent Tamales. This place truly makes me happy. Do try it!

We went for lunch and it was delicious! Shrimp tacos, fish taco, pulled pork and two other kinds I forget. Everything was fresh! No alcohol. Very friendly staff.

Nice small restaurant, with great food. The guacamole with housemade nachos was to die for, and the fried shrimp taco’s were delicious!

Nice place, reminding of those street restaurants in Mexico and south america. The food is very good. It seems to be a family business with the kids serving and the mama cooking but I might got that wrong. They do not serve alcohol, nice to have a break sometimes.

In a nutshell : cool place, nothing fancy but simple and good Mexican snacks. Would go back. Went there for a light brunch. A lot of plates are available on the menu, which are variations from traditional Mexican ingredients, eggs, black beans, home made tortillas. Got scrambled eggs with black beans, served with avocado, pico de gallo sauce and a very spicy green one. Tortillas were home made and flavoury. The Café itself is to much roasted for my own Tate but u guess it's and ok one.

Nice service, very Mexican. Tasty, good portions. This is not a big place but this is worth. Service is English/Spanish only.

They say it’s “haute cuisine de rue mexicaine” and they’re right! Fancy inexpensive tacos packed with deliciousness and flavour, light and crisp. The home-made drinks are great, the churros are out of this world and I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu... The decor and the music are awesome! Enjoy!

Had lunch here. The place is pretty small but clean and bright. We ordered the guacamole dip and two types of tacos. Barbacoa and Shrimp. An order of Lime Aqua Fresca washed everything down. Guacamole was excellent. Tortilla chips were fresh but cut thickly and were very hard but tasty. Tacos were very good. The serving size was huge and the price was right. My only regret was not buying a two dollar plastic luchadore figure to commemorate the meal.

Great little place although it is very easy to miss due to it not having much signage. Our server was very friendly, and upon chatting with him we found out it was a husband-and-wife run restaurant, which was nice. The tacos we ordered were amazing, although the Barbados (beef) taco must be assembled yourself. Our youngest ordered the Chilaquiles, and according to him they were quite good. Also, be sure to order the guacamole and chips, as the guacamole is delicious, and our family couldn't get enough of it. All in all, a great little restaurant that offers a lot for low prices, and one we will be sure to revisit when we return to Montreal!

La Tamalera is a super cute, super chic restaurant in the mile end. Their prices are reasonable, and you can really feel the Mexican authenticity in the food as well as the atmosphere. I went with a friend, and we each had the El Pastor tacos and churros. 5/5.

If you blink, you will miss this place as it has no street facing signage. When we backtracked to find it, the window was so dirty we couldn't tell if it was open...or if it was even still in business! It was open, but other than one other customer the place was empty on a Wednesday for lunch. The furniture is rudimentary and the decor a little too spartan. While the food was good, the portions were too small for the price and came with no sides. We left hungry.

This is one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants in Montreal. Brunch is definitely worth it -- wonderful huevos rancheros.

Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
