Café Saigon, while not in the main foodies area, is offering very good value. In particular we love Genaral Tao Chicken. The fact that you can bring your wine is attractive. There is a Liquor Store (SAQ) 2 minutes away, opne until 10:00 PM. Service is fast. It's a good place to go before a show.

For anyone looking for quality food, excellent service, reasonable prices and BYOB, this is definitely the place to choose. We often choose this place for family gatherings and were never disappointed. The crew is always very happy to bring samples of food that they serve. We will be going back soon and highly recommend a visit there.

My first time to this tucked away restaurant, although I have walked by hundreds of times.. I live close by and really wanted a nice warm soup on a cold winter day. Minh was a very gracious host, had me try 3 different broths so I could choose, even offered a sample piece of general tao chicken on the side.... More

The restaurant isn't much to look at from the outside but inside it was bustling. The service was quick and friendly and the food was tasty. The lemongrass beef with vermicelli was particularly good. Warning: cash only.

While visiting Montreal with my son and his wife, we were staying just down the street from the Cafe Saigon. It was a very rainy day, but we didn't feel like cooking. Less than 100 feet away from our door, but what a wonderful surprise! We enjoyed 2 types of spring roll, the General Tao Chicken, Vermicelli with Lemongrass Beef,... More

We had a good meal at Cafe Saigon last night. The restaurant isn't pretty or fancy, but has inexpensive, good food and is BYOB. Also, the staff are lovely and welcoming and kept bringing us free tastes of dishes to try! I would go back in a heart beat. Also, if you are a vegetarian make sure to tell them... More

If you are a visitor or tourist just arrived, you are well advised to avoid the Saigon! Upon arrival I was not advised of their peculiar policies and we were quickly served with food that was similar to real Vietnamese cuisine.

Great service with even better food! I am not from Quebec and still can't get over the "no corking fee". It was so nice to be able to bring a bottle of wine to drink and not pay an arm and a leg! Great overall experience. Would definitely recommend!

Staying in The Village (Gay Village)

Neighbourhood Profile
The Village (Gay Village)
The rainbow pillars of Beaudry Métro Station shepherd the way into to The Village, one of the largest hubs for gay and lesbian culture in North America. With an open layout and a congenial aura, the refurbished buildings along Rue Sainte-Catherine pay a special homage to menswear and to caffeine, with showrooms and cafes. By morning, the antiquing gems along Amherst Street are packed with collectors. An incredible party spot, The Village comes alive at night, when clubs, bars, and dance halls open their doors and the revelry is high, epitomised by the fanciful trimmings of the apropos Oscar Wilde building. From May to September, the area closes to automotive traffic, allowing restaurant terraces to pour onto the streets, creating a dynamic sense of community. Les Boules Roses, thousands of pink baubles, are hung to welcome in the festivals and celebrations, including Montréal en Arts, Divers-Cité, and the Pride Parade.
