The restaurant isn't much to look at from the outside but inside it was bustling. The service was quick and friendly and the food was tasty. The lemongrass beef with vermicelli was particularly good. Warning: cash only.

While visiting Montreal with my son and his wife, we were staying just down the street from the Cafe Saigon. It was a very rainy day, but we didn't feel like cooking. Less than 100 feet away from our door, but what a wonderful surprise! We enjoyed 2 types of spring roll, the General Tao Chicken, Vermicelli with Lemongrass Beef,... More

We had a good meal at Cafe Saigon last night. The restaurant isn't pretty or fancy, but has inexpensive, good food and is BYOB. Also, the staff are lovely and welcoming and kept bringing us free tastes of dishes to try! I would go back in a heart beat. Also, if you are a vegetarian make sure to tell them... More

If you are a visitor or tourist just arrived, you are well advised to avoid the Saigon! Upon arrival I was not advised of their peculiar policies and we were quickly served with food that was similar to real Vietnamese cuisine.

Great service with even better food! I am not from Quebec and still can't get over the "no corking fee". It was so nice to be able to bring a bottle of wine to drink and not pay an arm and a leg! Great overall experience. Would definitely recommend!

Cafe Saigon is one of those hidden gems that you keep going back to. The variety on the menu is great for all tastes, and the prices are extremely reasonable as well. A nice little touch is the free sample they give to each customer before the meal, a little chicken general tao sample is always appreciated! The peanut butter... More

My husband and I were looking for a restaurant before going to see a show at the OLYMPIA.Our first impression of the restaurant was omg I think we made a mistake, the restaurant is very outdated but as they say don't judge a book by its cover. The service was very good, price was reasonable but the food was excellent. So... More

Two hotel receptionists recommended it (on two separate nights) when I asked for a nearby dinner spot, and when I decided to give it a go I was a bit underwhelmed with the environment, but pleasantly surprised by the dish. Can recommend the wok with lemongrass and chicken. (It is a bring-your-own-wine place, which means they serve no wine nor... More

This place is ancient and I've been there many times. The service is friendly and fast. It is off the main street of St.Catherine's on St. Andre in the Middle of all the club and restaurants and Parc Emilie Gamelin. It's a nice place to meet your friends and have an affordable meal. - I've had better "General Tao" Else... More

Staying in The Village (Gay Village)

Neighbourhood Profile
The Village (Gay Village)
The rainbow pillars of Beaudry Métro Station shepherd the way into to The Village, one of the largest hubs for gay and lesbian culture in North America. With an open layout and a congenial aura, the refurbished buildings along Rue Sainte-Catherine pay a special homage to menswear and to caffeine, with showrooms and cafes. By morning, the antiquing gems along Amherst Street are packed with collectors. An incredible party spot, The Village comes alive at night, when clubs, bars, and dance halls open their doors and the revelry is high, epitomised by the fanciful trimmings of the apropos Oscar Wilde building. From May to September, the area closes to automotive traffic, allowing restaurant terraces to pour onto the streets, creating a dynamic sense of community. Les Boules Roses, thousands of pink baubles, are hung to welcome in the festivals and celebrations, including Montréal en Arts, Divers-Cité, and the Pride Parade.
