The Couscous was great but bland and predictable. I expected something with love , like bringing guests mint tea, without asking..I have eaten in Morocco, toured Morocco so this fell short of the Marakesh treatment I have grown to expect. I know Moroccan Food (my Ex is Moroccan ..lol) and know its possibilities.. I saw none of the refinements ..just... More

Is you want a nice restaurant, not expensive, friendly, this is for you. The couscous is very nice and so is the pastilla. It is a very place to have large group celebrations because you can hire belly dancers for your event. try to get a table upstairs

I love North African cuisine. Colour, taste, simplicity and the owner hospitality. I experience very little of that visiting that restaurant. The quality of the food serve were miles from the freshness that should be expected. Veggies were minimal, the meat ordered was dry and hard as if it has been left on the warmer for a long time. Service... More

After living in Morocco for two years a long time ago, I moved back to Toronto but longed for an authentic Morrocan experience... I figured Montreal would be my best bet, and we gambled on a meal at Couscous Royal... It was worth the gamble! Tucked into the Duluth restaurant row, this place delivers the AUTHENTIC Moroccan experience, from simple... More

This restaurant has soul, the desert wind warms you up on a cold winter night - the atmosphere is simple and authentic - don't expect anything fancy, bring your wine and relax into it - owned by the same Moroccan family for the last 22 years. Not as refined as other restaurants in town but honest.

This place is quaint and a little quirky. It's a great place if you are looking for something a little different. The restaurant looks like a house when you enter (ie the main door is a house door) and the interior is cozy.We had lamb, cous cous and veggies with lots of appetizers. It's bring your own wine so our... More

I decided to take my colleagues and make them taste a real coucous @ Cousouc Royal. The decoration was quite unusual to my friends as there were carpets hangining on the walls and the roof and that made us feel as if we were in a berber tent. However, the decoration could have been better (paintings, plates ...) We ordered... More

A group of 8 of us tried this place for dinner. It had a nice atmosphere and excellent service. We ate upstairs and the evening was warm so the temperature inside was HOT. But the company and the food made for a fun evening. I had been looking for a meal that compared to one I had in Paris, France... More

Food really was excellent. Had the Harissa soup, assorted salads and Chicken with Lemon. Chicken wasn't intensly lemon, but delicious. The Pastille or bastilla as it's known in other places was perfect. The salad was fresh (hadn't been sitting around and perfectly seasoned. Service was attentive, but also we were given a lot of space and told not to hurry.... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
