Ferreira has been in Montreal for decades. Located in the heart of the business district, this Portuguese restaurant is packed at lunch time with business people. The layout is a bit crammed---navigating he aisles is a bit like Montreal's city traffic. Maybe they should install one way signs. The menu has quite a bit of variety, but the general theme... More

We took a chance and made a reservation at Ferreira's even though we had never eaten Portuguese food before. We took our son and his girlfriend there for dinner to celebrate both of their birthdays. The atmosphere, the service and the food exceeded our expectations. Everything about the evening was wonderful. We surprised them with gifts after we had eaten... More

A real happening place to eat in downtown Montreal. You get the feeling that Ferreira Café is the place to be - people coming and going throughout the evening. The food was great. My wife had the black cod, one of the house specialties and I had the lamb stew. Both were superb. Service was excellent, with both a regular... More

The octopus appetizer with roasted eggplant puree is delicious. Octopus is crispy and tender. The black cod with a porcini crust is served with mushrooms and mashed potatoes. I also had the vanilla tarts for dessert.

The service is impeccable and the food delicious. We went for dinner for a party of 3. We shared an appetizer of traditional meats (ham, liver pate, etc) with a nice protuguese wine called Terra de Silgueiros. My main meal was mushroom risotto and duck confi. With a creme brulee for dessert. There are taste menus for a group of... More

Choice of 2 or 3 course price fixed lunch. Excellent selections for the appetizer and main course -- lots of fish and meat. Our waiter was very nice and helpful.

Stepped out of our comfort zone and tried Ferreira Cafe...Wow! The food was amazing, the staff was efficient and knowledgeable. We had a bunch of apps and share out dinners. Every dish was special! Was a great evening and a wonderful experience. Without a reservation we were able to get a great table by the kitchen. The meals came out... More

This downtown Montreal seafood and steak restaurant is very good. It gets crowded and we were lucky to get there early to grab seats at the bar. We had Ingrad as our server and we left everything up to her. She started us of with a dozen of oysters. She selected a fish for each of us with vegetables and... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
