We had a very enjoyable dinner here on a cold November evening. Indian food can be like comfort food on cold nights. The wine list is actually reasonably priced. We ordered a Zin with our meal. The owner is from Bangladesh. We therefore do not recommend the Biryani. Their Biryani is more like a rice pilaf. We had chicken curry.... More

Excellent food and service. We enjoyed the Onion Bhajee, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Korma, Kashmiri Rice and Peshawari Naan. All full of flavour and highly recommended. Our server Arbab was friendly and courteous. Wine prices were reasonable and the decor is very inviting. Would definitely go back.

What a spectacular find. Restaurant Gandhi offers a sumptuous selection of superbly spiced Indian cuisine and personalized service in a warm and inviting atmosphere. When we return to Montreal we will certainly return to Restaurant Gandhi.

Quite busy on a Saturday night even in low season November. Although we didn't have a reservation they found us a table for 2. Many groups were there; so great place for 6 or more group. Service was quick and very polite. Warm cotton towelete given at end of meal; nice touch. Food was very good. Definitely recommend. Make a... More

Family of four with children ages nine and 11 had a great meal here. The chicken Tikka masala was perfect. Samosas were great. We enjoyed the soup as well. The owner chatted with us for several minutes. Very friendly and authentic atmosphere.

Very good, clean Indian food...and very friendly service. The food is authentic and well-prepared. The menu offers are wide variety of items and styles. I was hoping it would be spicier, but I've often found that the server "takes it easy" on this American girl, not knowing that I have a palate and experience with homemade, kicked up spicy food.... A warm welcome and friendly service awaits you at Gandhi. The restaurant is very pretty. All we tasted was good, including a vegetable curry, the muligatawny. My husband liked his chicken dish. The weakest note was the vegetable somosa, which was a bit doughy. If you're thinking Indian, you won't go wrong here.

This restaurant served quality food along with exceptional service. Would highly recommend. You immediately knew this restaurant was top notch because it was filled with locals and not tourists. If you want to experience Indian food at its best, try Gandhi. You will not be disappointed.

We live in Old Montreal nearby Gandhi so we know quite a few restaurants in the vicinity. Why not all of them? Because it is so tempting to go back once more to a place like Gandhi where you Know that the staff is happy to see you from the moment you walk in and then they proceed to make... More

Once I set foot with an old friend the owner took us under his wing and assuré during the entire evening that everything was perfect, from the service to the quality of the food. Came and talk and joked with us once in a while. The food is real authentic Indian food and the price quality ratio is excellent. We... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
