I have been to this Gibby’s over 30 times. Sometimes it’s memorable and sometimes it can be off. We noticed the prices went up again. A rack of Lamb dish if more than 65$, it better be decadent for that price! I had the salmon and it was a bit over done. The salmon dish is about 38$. This restaurant is an institution really, always very busy and you definitely need to make a reservation. Honestly it’s a nice restaurant to try however I have been so many time to this restaurant that for the price I honestly would say it’s not my favorite restaurant but still an amazing choice. I know it’s a classic restaurant in Montreal but they need a major renovation; the decor is outdated.

We went to Gibby's on a recommendation and it was well worth it. The waiter was very helpful with wine selections and out appetizers and dinners were delicious. my husband likes his steak PIttsburgh rare, that is charred on the outside and blood red on the inside and they did it perfectly. my steak was also dine correctly and was very flavorful. We got he Monte Carlo potatoes and they were wonderful, great flavor. I would definitely recommend Gibbys as the food is great, service is wonderful and it is a great atmosphere, not too stuffy but just right.

We had dinner here this past Friday, we took a taxi from the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, but did walk back after diner, which is an easy walk (10-15mins) after a hearty and amazing meal. We have been going here pretty much every time we come to Montreal on our annual winter weekend getaway. We love the atmosphere, and of course the entire meal is outstanding. We started the escargot, and I had the petie filet with the Monte Carlo potato, absolutely the best potato ever, steak was cooked exact to my order..med rare. Hubby had the beef Wellington and raved about it. Dill pickles, fresh bread, bacon bits...all the great things that make this place so unique and why we always come back when we go Montreal. The table next to us had order Spanish Coffees and we loved watching the server make them right at the table. What a beautiful display. The service is top notch, and worth every penny you spend here. We will most definitely be back here again and will always recommend, if you haven't tried it, go!

4 of us plus our grand daughter. Feb 15, Saturday was busy, with Valentine day, we had a 5 PM seating, with 2 hours to look forward to a great experience. They had the baby high chair ready. My wife and I have loved Gibby’s and recommend it often, that for decades. We were at the St-Sauveur location last night. Great start with the expected pickles, warm bread, great welcome from our waiter (30 years of service). The 8 ounce petit filet was totally charred on the outside, and rare inside, was asked medium. My wife only took 1 bite. Our daughter’s rib eye was over cooked, close to well done, she asked for medium-rare. The “icing” on the cake, I love, or used to love, their Cherry Jubilee Crepe. It came 1/2 frozen. Could not even cut through the bottom of the crepe so hard frozen and the filling was hard as ice cream. They did not charge for the petit filet or the crepe. It was the least we expected, and we did not have to ask. But coming on 7:15pm (next seating was up) we left with almost 3/4 of the 2nd bottle of Osoyoos Larose behind, waste of a good wine. They did not force us out, but the experience was already ruined. One good part: Our son in law had been looking for a treat of Beef Wellington, his 1st time, was on his list for some time, have to say he loved it. It was the one good meal up to the standard expected out of 4. This was my wife’s birthday dinner as well, Feb 13th. And she ate nothing, well some potato, passing on the bread, and salad just waiting for the great steak. With their reputation, and prices, not close to a good memorable experience. Will no longer recommend, Montreal and the Laurentians have better choices. No longer a fan!

I have mixed feelings about my experience at Gibby's in Old Montreal as there were two very dissapointing aspects but some good qualities as well. I was looking for a place where I could treat family for special occasions or take visitors from out of town. I thought this would be a good choice but I will not be returning. Our seats were packed together and the table for two so small that the waiter had a hard time fitting on the dishes. My main complaint was the steak. If I am going to pay $50 plus on a steak it should not be tough and hard to chew. As I was taking friend out for her birthday I did not make a fuss but definitely the steak was below standard. On the flip side, the service was good and the appetizers and sides were tasty.

My son (13 years old) and I came here for our last night in Montreal. We made reservations the day of and had no issues getting a table. In fact, we had a choice once we arrived. We sat by a window, which I thought would be chilly, but it was not at all. The whole restaurant was warm. The table service includes a warm bread that was like a pretzel and dill pickles! I had never heard of that before. Good to try and sample, but do not eat too much - you’ll spoil your dinner. Another table ordered a Spanish coffee? The bartender rolled out a cart and make the drink in front of them lighting various alcohols on fire. It was pretty cool. A salad comes with the steak. It’s a pretty good sized portioned and a delicious salad with a garlic dressing. Then, lemon sorbet to cleanse the palate! The steak was great - well seasoned but not overpowering. We ordered dessert as well. My son had the creme brûlée and I got the key lime pie. Both desserts were HUGE! If you order, share with someone. They are really big and meant for 2 people. It was a great dinner with excellent service. I would definitely go here again and I highly recommend this establishment.

My husband and I went to Giibbys / Old Port Montreal, for his BD, in Nov 2019 and that was an amazing night they made for us. Good food, several courses, treating you very unique sorbey to change ur moth taste and make u ready for your main dish, very appetizing food, and a huge portion. In the end, they gave us a very delicious cheesecake for his BD ( free of charge ) along with a picture of us they have captured. We are going back next month ( OCT 2020), for my friends' BD and again on Nov for my husband's too. Very nice staff. Don't order any side dish since it comes with everything, salad, bread, cornichon, u don't wanna be full when you see your meal. Highly recommend.

We've been coming to Gibby's for over three decades.
From the stylishly presented menu, quality, mouth watering delicious meals to an exceptional customer service, the place was always a pinnacle of gastronomy, class and experience like no other in the world.
So, it is with deep sadness and overwhelming disappointment I have to inform you that it is no more.
We recently visited the place the first time after the restaurant reopened after the pandemic.
Mostly all of familiar workers who were diligently working there for years were gone.
Many dishes were removed from the poorly presented menu.
Separate expanded dessert menu was eliminated.
Unexceptable quality food with unjustifiably high prices were elevated to the outrageous levels and merely subpar customer service was better suitable for a walk-in diner on a interstate service area than five star establishment.
Gibby's salad was not fresh and dressing was not mixed properly. Crab cake was salty to the point that it simply was not eatable. Montecarlo potato was icy cold and very salty while the pinnacle dish "Beef Welington" came with the stale crust and raw smelling meat that was not possible to justify it's premium price of $73.
One manager who also played a hostess at the moment came up with an array of poorly designed excuses from having a new chef to a newly designed recipes for this outrageously expensive malfeasance while another manager was conducting a search for a group of people who left without paying.
Like saying goes, everything good comes to an end.
Either the place changed hands or whatever other reasons for their shortcomings, it was by far no longer an example of superiority.
We will always cherish pleasant memories about this place from a better days.
Au revoir Gibby's and so long!

Excellent! During these turbulent times it was nice to visit a restaurant that you know will never risk their reputation by scimping Health Protocol.
From the minute the valets welcome you. (with gloves and masks) to the end of your meal (cherry jubilee not available during covid) you feel secure in knowing that the utmost has been done to protect you.
The food...fantastic. Maybe because of the lack of crowds or because of the addition of safety measures, the food was exemplary. I dare to say, it was even better than usual.
Go to Gibby’s.

We enjoyed two visits at Gibbys, one for a late evening dessert and coffee and another for a full meal. Service was excellent and staff were very friendly. The classic ambience of this establishment offers to satisfy those looking for a romantic night out or simply to relax in an nostalgic "classy" room. Warning: The restaurant is extremely busy so wait time may be an issue for some. We truly enjoyed our fancy desserts at the end of a wonderful steak meal. High recommended and will return!

I visited Gibbys in Saint-Sauveur a few years ago with some of my ski buddies and it was great. I was heading up to Mont Tremblant with my family and decided to stop over in Montreal before making the last 2-hour trek up Mont Tremblant. We stayed at Le Westin in Old Montreal and walked to Gibbys (only a 10-minute walk). We were early but were seated immediately. We have two kids ages 8 and 10 and we were concerned about how they would handle a steakhouse/fine dinning experience. Our waitress was great and was very accommodating to our kids. Our kids tried things that they never try back home to the surprise of my wife and I. Consequently, our kids love Gibbys and have requested we go back next year. They especially liked the pickles they brought at the beginning of the meal.

As we usually do on our wedding anniversary, I made a reservation to celebrate at Gibby’s. We were greeted by Sylvain, the Maitre’d and quickly seated
Our waiter, Edmond, a seasoned veteran at Gibby’s came by with the wine list and shortly after with their delicious hot bread, pickles and butter.
We ordered 2 glasses of Pinot Noir ($11.75 each)
We decided to start our meal with the Gibby’s delicious salad with anchovies. I also asked for some of their delicious Gibby’s dressing on the side. Since we were sharing the second salad was charged at $14.00. It was fresh and delicious 😋.
For our main, I ordered their huge Rib Steak $66.00, charred medium with Monti Carlo potato. Since we would be sharing, I also ordered an extra potato with some sour cream on the side. The steak was excellently cooked!
Edmond brought us an extra plate with veggies. He was nice enough to transfer a piece of my steak to the other plate. NO complaints, delicious!!
We passed on dessert but I had ordered an Anniversary Cake to celebrate (free).
Everything was perfect! No complaints. Don’t forget, they have valet parking.
Enjoy!

I see the most recent review says that Gibby's is "Expensive". NO, it is not. It's all about what you are getting for your money.
Gibby's gives you everything. Ambience (the building is over three hundred years old). Outstanding service (everyone speaks French and English). For what I pay for the world's greatest steak at Peter Luger in New York, not only was I served a spectacular steak, but it included a salad, asparagus and a baked potato. Let's not forget the surprise sorbet between the salad and main course to cleanse your palate. Even the bread was outstanding.
If you are in Montreal and want an outstanding meal, go to Gibby's.

I made a reservation online which was confirmed by email. On the day of the dinner, we arrived five minutes before the agreed time only to find out that the restaurant was closed for the evening. The staff at the reception told us that they notified everyone via email, which was certainly not the case for us. I triple-checked my account including the spam folder. No email was ever received. When I asked why they did not try to call us, they mentioned not having my phone number.
My original reservation included my phone details and in fact, someone from the restaurant called me to give us the dine-in options the weekend prior.
Disappointing to say the least.
