Had a reservation but our table was not ready and was told to go upstairs and get a drink and we waited 20 more minutes. Once seated the service was stellar and so was the food. I would totally come here again, but I hope...to be seated at reservation time.More

We love Gibby’s but this experience was terrible. The bread came out cold and stale but the main issue was the entree. It took 3 tries to get the steak close to correct. We asked for nothing unusual… medium rare, charred. The first steaks that...came out was not charred and commented on by the server. We kept it anyways. The other steak was cooked medium + and sent back. The next steak came out rare… I asked the server what he would say it was and he also indicated it was rare. The 3rd steak came out almost medium rare so we kept it. The potato was ordered as plain baked and it came out Monte Cristina style. Meanwhile my husband had finished his steak before I even received a properly cooked steak. When the bill came the server indicated that he has credited 1 steak (and we thanked him) and then he mumbled “of course you didn’t receive it… I have to charge when I order a new steak”. We looked at the bill and had been charged for 3 steaks! So he removed the one that was never ordered. I would hope so! Our bill reflected the total cost of what we ordered including wine and desserts with no attempt to try to “make it up to us”. Three attempts to receive a properly cooked steak and each of us eating alone is not the lovely couples dinner we had imagined. Nor the quality we would expect from a restaurant of Gibby’s quality and past reputation. Very dissatisfied.More

A complete delight from the moment we entered. The setting is warm, inviting, historic and charming. We felt transported to a cozy European spot. The service was exceptional. Amazing blend of exquisite service and elegance yet somehow still casual. No pretense, just exceptional attention. Water...glasses prompted filled (a major plus to me) and attentive server who was happy to make suggestions with enthusiastic descriptions. When I dripped some garlic butter from the delicious shrimp in garlic butter appetizer a staff member promptly but unobtrusively arrived to wipe the spot off the white table cloth and place a clean napkin over it - come on, what attention to detail!! The food was excellent. I knew i loved this place when the warm loaf of bread was immediately delivered with a half stick of butter - not a silly pat, a half stick for the two of us. How did they know I’m a Wisconsin native and appreciate my butter? The rest of the meal was wonderful from that aforementioned shrimp in garlic butter to the gazacho and a lovely wedge salad to perfectly cooked steaks. The server asked our seasoning preferences - a first and welcome as I have some quirky needs. We were celebrating my husbands birthday and ordered desserts - his cheesecake was one of the best ever, saying a lot for the native New Yorker. He finished every morsel. Then they brought us a birthday cake in a box to take home. Good thing our hotel room has a refrigerator. We will enjoy the cake and savor our memories of one of our most exceptional dining experiences ever. The total package!More

I love it when I get my money's worth and reviews are accurate. Gibby's didn't disappoint, from the amount/quality of the food to the service & cleanliness. I arrived early and they sat me, given my reservation was for 15 min later. Solo traveler and...still got a table. They Kickstart you with whole pickles and a warm loaf of bread. On the table is butter and a bowl of crumbled bacon (for the potato) which I thought was nuts, almost took a handful. Lol. Then my salad arrived, which was a generous portion and the dressing was nice too (I asked for light dressing, & there was still a lot). Lucking out, I got the rack of lamb, cooked medium. DELICIOUS! The Chimichurri it came with did the lamb wrong! Did not even need sauce. Came with a baked potato and overcooked asparagus. Great meal and I was so full I passed on the tempting dessert menu. Even though they provided a lime flavored sherbert palette cleanser, after the salad. I had a soda and my bill was $100 w/tip. I love a place that cleans all the crumbs off the table before dessert. Seems like no dress code, some people wearing suits and others in t-shirts and flip flops. I recommend you add this to your places to eat & make a reservation.More

Fantastic venue, friendly and knowledgeable servers, and most importantly… SUPERB FOOD! But, you must arrive hungry! You start with a loaf of bread and a bowl of giant Pickles (which I love!! Wife, not so much 🙄🤣) then your starter. I had crab cake, wife had...the Onion soup.. both excellent! Then you get youre salad! And it’s a fair size! And tasty!. But then it’s the main event, I had 22oz bone in Rib-eye, the wife had the 8oz fillet, both with Monte Carlo jacket potato and asparagus, both steaks were cooked to perfection! The only problem was the shear amount of food! I prioritised the meat (of course) but they will box up anything you leave! I took home my remaining pickles! 🤣 Our bill came to $290 inc tip and taxes, and I think was great value, considering the quality of food and service! I’ve paid A LOT more in the US for a lot less! A great restaurant, thoroughly recommended.More

We were 3 and arrived for our 7 pm reservation on time. We valet parked the car and as expected were quickly escorted to our table. After looking over there beverage list my wife ordered a glass of Red Wine and we both had some...Vodka martinis. Our waitress, Esperanza, was fantastic!! She had been working there for over 40 years. Not soon after sitting down came there delicious sour pickles, a fresh hot baguette, butter and bacon bits. For our starters, we all chose the Gibby’s salad, all with anchovies and some extra Gibby’s salad dressing on the side. My wife couldn’t resist also ordering their delicious Onion soup. For our mains, I chose their Rack of Lamb, which I shared with my wife. It was grilled, medium in the middle, as requested. We also ordered a plate of Shish Kebab. It had huge pieces of fillet mignon, also perfectly prepared. It came with a side of delicious mushrooms. We all ordered their all dressed Monte Carlo potatoes, with extra sour cream. As usual, we had no room for dessert. If ever you want very good service, delicious food and drinks, this is the place to go. Enjoy. Remember to make a reservation in advance, so that you will not be disappointed.More

The friendly staff met us at the door and we were immediately seated. The ambiance is that of an old shipping warehouse with stone walls. Upon being seated our waiter brought bread and took drink orders. The homemade pickles on the table added a nice...touch. We ordered PE oysters on the half shell and they did not disappoint. Large, fresh and brined. Steaks, lobster tails, stuffed potatoes and salad were exceptional! Excellent experience!More

I went to this restaurant years ago for a friend's birthday and recently went back after remembering how good the food was. Nothing's really changed after all those years, although I might argue service has improved (not that it was bad before). The steaks and...seafood remain top notch and the pricing is fairly reasonable. Great selection of wine. For me, this is the steakhouse that I gauge all other steakhouses to. Not many deliver a comparable combination of quality, value and service. You should give it a try.More

Gibby’s - it’s like stepping into a glimpse of the past, from the old cobblestone walkway and alcove to old stone walls and wooden fixtures. We had a wonderful dinner with attentive wait staff who provided excellent customer service. The food was very tasteful, and...our steaks were great cuts, cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of seasoning. I recommend the garlic shrimp appetizer, and filet mignon (the petit version was sufficient for me given the amount of food we had). The additional side of lobster tail is small, so if you’re hungry, they have the option to order multiples. The prices are great, especially since the steaks have some sides included, such as salad and rice or potato. Try the Gibby’s salad with the garlic croutons. I love the sorbet to cleanse the palette, and the mint chocolate afterwards. Make sure not to skip dessert! We had fresh and scrumptious cheesecake and chocolate cake. The location is a close walk from Le St. Sulpice, the Nelligan, and others in Old Montreal. From romantic dinners to family get -togethers, or just visiting, this long-standing Montreal staple is a definite must to try!More

This restaurant was recommend to us by several family members and coworkers. I can see why. Excellent location. The old building is very charming. We had reservations but it was pouring rain so we decided to come a bit early. No problem accommodating us. We...were promptly seated, offered waters and beverages. Our server (?genevieve, sorry I forgot) was very knowledgeable on the menu. I ordered the chicken kiev and my husband got a ribeye steak. We received bread, pickles and bacon on the table while waiting. Our mains included a salad- we both got the Gibbys salad with house made dressing. Then a palate cleanse with sorbet. The mains were served perfectly. Both cooked to perfection. After dinner we got their house made mint chocolate. We were too stuffed for a real dessert. Overall very very good food. Excellent service. A bit pricey but I can see why with all the little extras. Definitely would recommend.More

Have heard a lot about Gibby's leading up to visiting Montreal and it didn't disappoint. The ambiance and building its located in is rich in history and very cool to learn about. The dinning room has a downstairs and upstairs and can be very loud...if that's a problem for you but I rather that then it being quiet! Started with Pickles, Bread, Bacon they give you when you arrive. Had the Beef Wellington and it was incredible! Ended with Strawberries and Cream for homemade Mint Chocolate. Service was very good and seemed liked out server was only working 4-5 tables total. Its expensive but worth it in my opinion.More

So good! I'd read the article that begins, "Step back in time", and we did--we really did! Just a lovely restaurant, excellent atmosphere and perfect service. Our waiter was outstanding! He anticipated every detail of every little thing we might want with our dinner. While...expensive, you will find the portions are generous and the food is delicious! Highly recommend for a lovely dinner out in Montreal. The best restaurant we have visited there. Go!More

You miss the mark on us. You are a stake house. You should know how to prepare steak. We both ordered medium, steak was served to us very rare. We sent it back to be cooked for it correctly, when the waitress dropped it off,...she said she would send over the manager. The manager came and suggested a sauce, since it might be too dry. Not only was it dry it was cooked well done. I gave them a two because the potato was done well. Will never go back, manager should have offer to recook our stakes that were now ruined, not offer the sauce because it was dry. I would not recommend.More

Our annual trip to Montreal wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Gibby’s. As we do many years, we were a group of 10. Everyone was really happy with their meal, and I know my small filet was done to perfection. The starting bread and...pickles are great too. Since the meal comes with a soup or salad, a starter would just be too much for me, and no one at our table had one. Service was good but not that friendly. You can tell they’re on the clock, wanting to rush you through your meal so that you’re out in time for the second seating. Not ok for a restaurant that charges those prices. Luckily, no one took a dessert or had an after-dinner drink because our time was up… While the food and location are great, it’s not the best place for a group because the noise level is very high and you can’t have a conversation with anyone across the table. Something to remember for the next time, if there is one.More
