Reading some of the comments here I was doubting if we really should go, but the (very mixed) crowd in the restaurant we saw an evening before spoke for itself. So we went and took the tastings menu as we were not familiar with dishes. This certainly was a good first choice. It brought us to teff flower/bread for our first time, and it harmonised very well with the spicy dishes. I’m sure, next time I will take a main course, because to fully dive into the complexity of such a dish will be another experience then just tasting around. One of the waiters was a bit too “professional”. On the other hand, we spent more money on each of the other restaurants we went to in Montreal so far.

My girlfriend and I had never tried Ethiopian cuisine before this evening. Kevin, our waiter, suggested the 2-course tasting menu to share; appetizers and entrees. Delicious!!!! Plenty of options for vegans as well. The flavours are amazing and none of our selections were so spicy you couldn't taste what you were eating. The lamb was so tender and amazingly spiced. We left very satisfied.

What a find! When looking for ethnic Ethiopian fare this is the place to go! Their selection is classic Ethiopian and absolutely delicious. You can tell from the care they take when explaining the options to the presentation of the food you will be transported when eating their dishes. We chose the vegan sampler which was more than enough to satisfy two diners and offered a taste of traditional Ethiopian food at its finest. The seasonings, selections, and samplings made this one of our memorable meals. A very special place on Saint Denis St in Le Plateau.

We were at Le Nil Blue around 2 pm, so late lunch, early dinner fare. We were the only people in the entire restaurant, and still it took forever to get our order in, then to get our food. The lady who was our waitress literally would disappear somewhere in the back and I had to get up from the table at least twice to look for her. That was very unprofessional and rude.
In addition, it was the most expensive Ethiopian restaurant I have ever been to, and it was not warranted neither by the food quality nor service. The food was very standard and since we basically wanted to get something where we could sample the majority of the dishes, we ordered two course tasting menu. There were five of us dining, and honestly, I would prefer to go to a different Ethiopian restaurant in the future.

Service was too slow but for most diners that’s let down factor would be eliminated as soon as the restaurant compensate your wait time for a delicious and fresh meal, that wasn’t the case in this restaurant. An hour and half later I have received a meal that has gone bad, smells terrible, tip of advice for all you foodies most Ethiopian meals requires hours and hours to prepare specially your “Doro Wot” w/c is chicken stew don’t expect it to be fresh and from the same day” so if you ever visit nil bleu which I will never, stick with the “Tibs” which is basically pan friend beef which takes less than ten minutes to prepare if not I would avoid this establishment! I will give a three star for the ambiance of the restaurant though.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Montreal - traditional and delicious platters of a wide range of dishes. Everything is enjoyable, from the hot hand towels on arrival, the friendly and efficient staff, and reasonable prices.
Especially enjoy their Injera teff bread, and the many vegan options.
Highly recommended.

Another great dinner with friends at the Nil Bleu! The doro wot spices and flavors were well balanced, the injera was light and fresh, the vegan combo was much appreciated by my guests too! As expected, we waited a little longer for the kitfo but it was worth it: delicious!! The Inkspot South African wine was also an excellent recommendation. Desserts we loved: chocolate cake and lemon meringue! Thank you, Nil Bleu, see you soon!

Another exceptional meal at the Nil Bleu! The welcoming was warm and professional. The choice of dishes is as varied as it would be back home, in Ethiopia. Kitfo, beg tibbs, vegetarian combo, doro wot, and their great crispy fresh salad: each dish was unique and tasty. Their recommendation of a great red South African wine was just perfect. A smooth and flavourful Ethiopian traditional coffee ended our lunch. Bravo, Nil Bleu team! Congratulations for representing impeccably our culinary tradition and our culture, for 30 years! Keep up the great effort!

My family tries to eat Ethiopian food in every city that we visit, and I can honestly say that Le Nil Bleu was the best we've ever had. The flavors were incredible, and each one of the dishes in the vegetarian combination was exquisite. We give it our very highest recommendation!

Only two days left on my Canadian tour and wanted to try something completely different. I have never had an African food in my life so when my brother suggested I jumped in.
The place was full and packed, we didn't book before we went but we were lucky to have a table.
I ordered the tryout menu and the Nile cocktails.
Must say that the food was beyond my expectations, completely different taste loved it.

BEST. FOOD. EVER. OMG. I can't even begin to describe how tasty this food is. I've since left Montreal and I still think back fondly on it. Excellent service too. Great presentation. Worth every penny.

We loved our dinner at Le Nil Bleu - the tasting platter is a perfect opportunity to try a range of delicious dishes. We were well looked after by the lovely staff and my husband's coeliac diet was catered for well too, the staff are super knowledgable.

Being from a globalized Latin American city, it is not hard for me to get European or Asian food, but Sub-Saharan African one, that's a totally different story.
A friend of mine spoke highly of that place that was featured on my Lonely Planet. I was always curious about the restaurant for years, in every visit to Montreal.
I am glad I stayed at their Kutuma Hotel. That means the hotel room-service breakfast was prepared in the same kitchen. It consisted of scrambled or fried eggs, croissant, toasts, jam, fruits orange juice and coffee.
It's not every day I have the opportunity to try Ethiopian food, therefore I asked for their tasting menu, that was a couple of samplers of everything they had, which is in fact the communal or family meal Ethiopians normaly share served on injeras. Everything was deliciuos. I wish I hadn't had a meal on the plane the day of my first Montreal dinner. I couldn't finish my main course. I asked for an additional of-the-menu non-Ethiopian dessert, which was a chocolate mousse.
That dinner was the culinary highlight of my latest trip to Montreal.

Been going to the Nil with the family for nearly 15 years and it's always a wonderful experience.
The food is out of this world and the ambiance takes you away, truly magical.

Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
