Great food but the atmosphere is what really makes it special. Live music every day with amazing, warm performances. The food and service are consistently great.

Stopped in for a drink and enjoyed the live jazz and friendly bar staff. Came back a few days later for a bowl of delicious Onion soup. Great atmosphere. Nice choice of wines.

Casual and comfortable. We enjoyed a window table looking out on a busy pedestrian area. Modavie is located in a touristy area, but the service, menu and food are excellent. We would go again in a minute.

Very intelligent, professional, personable service. We had good onion soup, filet of salmon (ok) with fresh vegetables and side of fries (salty). Nice ambience with a band playing in an adjacent room 🙂

We made a reservation a day and a half before the visit. Nonetheless, we were seated in an area with no direct view of the live entertainment, even though the restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived. The server initially appeared attentive and polite. When...I pointed out that we were not served the bread rolls and butter like everyone else in the restaurant, he provided the lamest excuse for the omission: “I think it wasn’t ready at the time”. He did offer to provide a serving of bread rolls, but we had already completed our meal at this time. Not once did he utter the words “sorry”. He did not even attempt to make the situation right, with at least a complimentary dessert Now, about the food: My lamb chops were tasty and well seasoned. My wife’s Rack of Lamb was extremely fatty, and only a portion of the rack was edible. Another unpleasant surprise with the tab. He overcharged me for the glass of wine, but quickly corrected the error when I pointed it out. Restaurant had a good ambiance and is located in a landmark area. Staff should be better trained.More

Lamb is their specialty so I asked the server which of the 5 lamb dishes to order. She suggested the T-bone. Never had that so was looking forward to it. Terrible. Tough meat. Lots of gristle. Don't order the T-bone. SO had the filet. She...ordered it medium well. It came rare. Even the server was surprised. Sent it back and came back OK. BUT we ordered blue cheese as an extra. The original had a nice slab of blue cheese on top of the filet. The 2nd version of the plate had I think the same slab but melted, and it pretty much disappeared. The filet was pretty tasty. I also had the snails- my 2nd time, so I'm far from an expert. It was butter with a side of snails, but that's probably normal. Was excited to try this place but overall disappointed. Maybe if I had a different lamb dish and the SO's filet had come out properly cooked... Would not/could not recommend.More

We had dinner with another couple in this large bistro style restaurant that seems to have nightly live music (jazz, but not too intrusive), all in a nice setting. The servers were very personable and professional. The wine list is very nice. The food was...well prepared and very tasty. Among us we had filler mignon, lamb chops and a mushroom risotto with a side of braised lamb. All were outstanding. The tables are a bit close but not overly so. We were not rushed at all, and the attentiveness and humor of the servers added to the experience. Altogether this was a terrific dining experience!More

Great food and the touch of live Music Nightly is a treat. We were seated at the Bar the first night and was fortunate to be served by Paul Michellle, such a delightful engaging young man. We were hooked and went back three nights in...a row and luckily we got to sit in the same spot at the bar. Loved it. The food was so so darn good. What a treat, we'll be back for certain... :-)More

Our party of five was attracted to Modavie by its good reviews, proximity to our hotel and the live music. As noted by others, the proprietor is a wonderful character. So was our capable waiter Eric. The music last night wasn’t jazz but a duo...that played mostly folk music with electric guitars and harmonica. You should let the restaurant know if you wish to be seated in the same room as the musicians, because there are several rooms. The food was very good, bistro fare with an emphasis on lamb. The onion soup was tasty but served tepid with only a slice of local cheese. The lamb chops—all five of them—were excellent. The steak and frites were also good. Wine list was reasonably extensive but few bottles under $100, which seems to be true in most cities any more. We enjoyed a Bordeaux. We would return if back in Montreal.More

This is a classic French Bistro, with some great dishes. The waffle-egg-cheese combo is to die for, as is the wonderful Croque Madame. Combine it with a glass of prosecco, listen to live Jazz on the weekends, and you will be in a happy place!...Finally, Lorenzo is such a gracious host. It was our second trip to Modavie and his wonderful manner is infectious!More

We had a very special time at Modavie for our anniversary. Open Table said there were no openings for lunch but we went there and found lots of room. Lorenzo, the Maitre, was great and found us a wonderful table by the window and looked...after us really well. The restaurant has great atmosphere and fabulous food. For the lunch Table d'Hote we had French onion soup, lamb chops, and creme brulet. All were fabulous. Great wine selections. The Table d'Hote price varies according to what choices you make. This place is highly to be recommended as the best restaurant in the Old Port area of Montreal.More
