Really good pho and friendly staff. The scene is a typical Asian restaurant in Chinatown; tight, fast-pace, under-decorated but you're not going there for ambience. You're there for the food and it's plenty and good.

You have to eat there! It's tasty as hell! The pho ( soupe ) are so good, it's the best Vietnamese restaurant in the china town ! Looks like nothing from the outside, looks like nothing on the inside... but great food for cheap !

In line with what seems to be a guideline with Montreal's best Pho Soup Restaurants, PHO BAC97 has little to offer in terms of ambiance and decor... But the soup is just what makes you go back! I have been a fan of Pho Soup for over 20 years and I have traveled around Canada quite a bit. Staff is... More

Looks like nothing from the outside, looks like nothing on the inside... but great food for cheap, cheap, cheap! Not for a romantic dinner but excellent for a quick lunch while downtown.

Go there on a fairly regular basis. A soup with imperial rolls is usually my meal. Pretty copious. Even the small soup, I usually cannot finish, but I just cannot go around their imperial rolls.

Authentic tasty Viet comfort foods, specially in a chilly and windy winter day. Suggest to try the beef, the thin slices of beef will cook in the hot broth.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Bakeries, markets, restaurants, and buffets crowd the brightly graffitied streets of Chinatown, the city's aromatic destination for pan-Asian cuisine. Distinguished at its entry points by towering vermillion paifang gates, the compact neighbourhood acts as a focal point for the Chinese community, hectic with educational facilities, cultural centres, acupuncturists, and foreign-language newspapers. Especially vibrant in the warmer months, when the sweet smell of dragon beard candy along the pedestrian walks of Rue de la Gauchetière signal the beginning of the outdoor street fair season, Chinatown is a treasure hunter's dream, with enough knickknack and curiosity shops to tempt even the pickiest shoppers. The convivial vibe picks up after dark, when the area's active nightlife offers evening crowds their choice of drink, dance, and midnight snacks of pho or oysters. Chinatown's mix of new and old, with herbal remedies being sold alongside pop-culture DVDs, gives the area its own animated brand of moxie.
