No frills. Authentic. Excellent, 'out-of-this-world' and top quality smoke-meat! Must try for anyone visiting Montreal.

Overall I'm glad I went to Schwartz's but I'm not sure if it was worth the hype. Don't get me wrong, the food was good and the staff was friendly but the smoked meat sandwich wasn't life changing.

Literally the most delicious thing I had during my week in Montreal. I died and went to heaven while eating this scrumptious treat!

What can I say about Schwartz's? The smoked meat is legendary. Juicy, savoury, and it melts in your mouth. And they have half-sour pickles. Service was friendly and fast (even though you hear mixed reviews on that). Go later in the evening to avoid lines, which are 200 people deep during holidays.

this restaurant is a special place - antique in all sense original furniture, grill and smoke room where the authentic taste of the meat is achieved - mostly like a well guarded secret. the sitting as first come first seated and you will never know who is sitting next to you. just like a cafeteria where you can strike up a... Who does not know about Schwartz's? We even bought their packaged smoked meat from Costco! But coming all the way from Toronto, trying to find a place to park in the busy neighborhood, and lining up for 30 mins to for a tiny table to eat probably for 30 mins - is quite an experience! We have put off the... More

In the past years the service has taken a nose dive. The meat remains great however the whole Schwartz experience is over-rated with a staff that doesn't seem to care about customer satisfaction and really sees you a number. Good place for smoked meat sandwiches but you can also get some at Jarry smoked meat and other places. For the... More

Great food and super nice service. Recomend making a stop here when in Montreal. The smoke meat sandwiches and pickles a delicious, the only thing I would change is giving the option for hot mustard on the sandwich.

If you love meat, you must go here! And for anyone with celiac disease, you can eat the meat and French fries (because it's the only thing fried in the fryer). The service isn't the friendliest but trust me you won't care once you try this food. Order the pickle too!

Smoke meat was nothing special there are better places in Montreal. Price is average. Not recommended.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
