I walked by Solmar and saw quail on the menu earlier in the day, so I went there with my travel mate for dinner. The ambiance was nice. When we ordered, I asked whether the restaurant had quail. The young woman who served us said...yes, so I ordered quail. My travel mate and I shared grilled sardines as a starter, which were very good. The red wine by the glass, Valentina Alentejo, was also pleasing. When the main course came, I saw a cooked fowl that was quite a bit bigger than quail and which had all white meat. I told the young woman who took our order that what I was served was not quail. She said she'd check and went over to confer with another young woman at the reception area. Then she came back and said sheepishly that quail was not in season, which may not be true because many quails are raised in farms, and she ordered poussin (game hen). She apologized and offered that I could order something else. I didn't want my travel mate to wait, so I just ate that dish (I didn't eat much because I dislike white meat; also the sauce was too salty). What riles me is how restaurants treat their customer as fools - that the customers don't know enough about food to be able to tell whether they are served what they have ordered. This is the second time I was served a game hen when I ordered quail (first occurrence was at a posh West Loop restaurant in Chicago a decade ago; because a client was treating the team after closing a deal and had been raving abut the restaurant, I didn't want to dampen the client's exhilarating mood and didn't complain).More

Had the clams as a appetizer and they were gritty..sand not completely removed prior to cooking. Hubby had the grilled sardines which were grilled whole without removing the innards and fish bones. I had the grilled squid as a main course and had never seen...squid like that before. it looked like a sheet of sauid that was flattened with striations and then shaped into a tube..it didnt have a good texture. I've dined in many Portuguese restaurants and this was way off the mark. Was very disappointed. the pictures of dishes on the web didnt match what we actually got.More

After 5 years or more of being in this terrible place I still remember what a nightmare it was. I hope they are now closed and never open to the public again. This has been the worse restaurant, service I have ever been in my...life!!!More

We were able to dine alfresco. All our food was delicious - escargot, salmon and duck confit. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Good service, prime location, good food. A bit pricy but to be expected due to the location on historical St Paul Street in Old Montreal. The grilled seam bream and Maduro Shrimp were very good.. Worth the experience.

I ordered the special sampler for 60$, 2 appetizers 1 main dish and dessert. The main dish I was served was a frozen chunk of fish, uncooked. Not cold, but **frozen** with icicles. I sent it back without making a fuzz. Since my partner order...a cod/egg/rice mix that had no cod I sent that back also, and asked for both dishes to be served simultaneously. Of course they were not..... and when it came 20 min after mine the cod was burnt. Never got the dessert that was included in the special, waited 35 min, asked three times, and gave up. Service were trying hard to help, but our specific server (a tall older male) was terrible and even offensive. In the end we did not pay the bill, but only after a few back and forth with the maitre and the hostess. Any respectable restaurant would cancel the bill on the **first incident alone**. On the positive, appetizers were good to very good. House wine really good. Ambience really good. Too bad they spoiled our night. Shameful.More

Went with my wife and members of the Beaconsfield Newcomer's Club. She had the grilled cod fish and I had the grilled sirloin steak; all excellent beyond our expectations not to mention the 5-star service. I ordered a liter of their imported house wine which...reminded me of the house wine in Italy; fruity, delicious and lite. Very disappointing that this wine is not available at SAQ. And BTW, live guitar music starts at 7pm, which was an absolute delight.More

We went here based on other reviews. Very disappointed. We opted for the tapas and while the restaurant wasn't that busy, each dish was only just warm. Our waiter drifted around and seemed far more interest in pandering to a couple who had ordered some...exotic dessert by the window. When it came to the bill, our waiter asked if we had 2 or 4 glasses of wine - you would think he should know if he was paying attention. Overall an underwhelming experienceMore
