We visit Solmar restaurant on June 30/2020, ordered just tapas menu, saute shrimp with olive oil and grilled octopus Portuguese style. Both dishes were tasty. Our server was Mr. Manuel was very professional and friendly.
I ordered the special sampler for 60$, 2 appetizers 1 main dish and dessert. The main dish I was served was a frozen chunk of fish, uncooked. Not cold, but **frozen** with icicles. I sent it back without making a fuzz. Since my partner order...a cod/egg/rice mix that had no cod I sent that back also, and asked for both dishes to be served simultaneously. Of course they were not..... and when it came 20 min after mine the cod was burnt. Never got the dessert that was included in the special, waited 35 min, asked three times, and gave up. Service were trying hard to help, but our specific server (a tall older male) was terrible and even offensive. In the end we did not pay the bill, but only after a few back and forth with the maitre and the hostess. Any respectable restaurant would cancel the bill on the **first incident alone**. On the positive, appetizers were good to very good. House wine really good. Ambience really good. Too bad they spoiled our night. Shameful.More
This was my best Portugese experience since Portugal. We were served excellent duck, bacalhau a braz, scallops with chorizo and claims. As a dessert we had natas of a quality which i had not tastend outsider Portugal
Went with my wife and members of the Beaconsfield Newcomer's Club. She had the grilled cod fish and I had the grilled sirloin steak; all excellent beyond our expectations not to mention the 5-star service. I ordered a liter of their imported house wine which...reminded me of the house wine in Italy; fruity, delicious and lite. Very disappointing that this wine is not available at SAQ. And BTW, live guitar music starts at 7pm, which was an absolute delight.More
We went here based on other reviews. Very disappointed. We opted for the tapas and while the restaurant wasn't that busy, each dish was only just warm. Our waiter drifted around and seemed far more interest in pandering to a couple who had ordered some...exotic dessert by the window. When it came to the bill, our waiter asked if we had 2 or 4 glasses of wine - you would think he should know if he was paying attention. Overall an underwhelming experienceMore
Service was exceptional, very friendly and helpful. Food was very good and seasoned wonderfully- we got octopus and duck tapas to share...and then the seafood rice dish which we also shared. They made a great iced tea and my husband had some beers and gin...with tonic. Our bill was $106 (uS) with tip - little on pricey side but worth the experience and quiet romantic atmosphere.More
