Stash Cafe is one of our favourite spots in Old Montreal. Super cozy, delicious Polish food, live piano music, great atmosphere. Stash Cafe has consistently delivered delicious food and ambiance at a great price point.

We sought out the Stash Cafe as it seemed to be an authentic Polish restaurant in Montreal. We headed to Montreal to see the Van Gogh exhibit as a great staff retreat before the Christmas holiday with a crew of 10, including three young children.
The Van Gogh exhibit was really awesome, and we headed to the Stash Cafe for lunch, arriving around 12:30 PM. It was the Friday before Christmas, and the small restaurant was booked up. We were willing to reserve a table for ten and wait the 90 minutes.
Once we returned, there was our table awaiting our arrival as expected. Among our group, I am the only one who has spent time in Poland, so my stories of the wonderful Polish food helped prepare my colleagues for this experience.
The decor and ambience were to be expected, and my group seemed to enjoy their first experience in a Polish restaurant.
I found the Bigos not up to my expectations, and yet I have been seeking out Bigos at other Polish delis and restaurants since returning from Poland in July. The Bigos was okay, but not the same "wow" I have grown to love in recent months.

Thirty years after our first visit to Stash, not much has changed, which is a good thing in this case. We got a wonderful corner table, with fast, friendly service and a very good pianist playing some old classics from Sinatra's era. Half a bottle of good wine, a shared appetizer and two main dishes for about $60 US. There is a vibrant atmosphere and they don't rush you out of the place.

Montreal has a lot of restaurants falling over themselves to be hip and cool. This long-standing restaurant never fails to please. It has been around for decades and consistently serves comforting old-school Polish food. Cream. Breaded meat. Cabbage dishes. Mushrooms. If you like the sound of this, you will love Stash Cafe. Cozy space. Dimly lit. Live piano player. It's a romantic spot for dinner if you're not afraid of eating a wide variety of food. We love it in moderation.

Friday evening around 5:30pm , the cafe had three tables full. By 6 ish the place was almost at capacity. Ordered the polish variety meal for beginners. Shared. Portions generous. Well, the food rivaled my mother's cooking and taste! I grew up with Eastern European meals. 5 stars for matching mum's cooking! Service was very good, attentive and friendly.

Overpriced! Very rude staff. Unforndly and unprofessional staff.
We ordered a hering and you get just 1 small piece of hering on a plate . They charge so much money for a microscopic piece.
When we said that the soup is not very warm the waitress didn’t even apologised but instead took it aggressively away .
Dishes are overpriced and for a polish cuisine which is normally very testy it’s very disappointing !

Visited the Stash Cafe with my family for a dinner. The visit required reservation; the day before, we just came at 6:30 PM and it was full. Got seated quickly, the waiter was attentive and described food options well.
We got Borsch (beets and cabbage soup), Pierogi with mushrooms, cheese, beef and cabbage, and kielbasa (the traditional Polish sausage). Everything was very tasteful. The Borsch was very well done, not over-sweetened and came with sour cream as it should. It didn't have cabbage leaves, potato or beets pieces ( there are two types of borsch- with "hard" inclusions such as pieces of meat, cabbage, beets and potatoes and liquid only; both are legit Borsches).
The Pierogi were very soft with stuffing almost dissolving in the mouth on its own. The Kielbasa was tasty and fatty. It's fried with a lot of fat; I suggest to get something like mashed potatoes with it.
For the amount of food we got, the overall bill was quite low.
I would come back if I'll be in Montreal next time.

We went to Stash's based on stellar reviews and a high recommendation from friends who visited in Sept. The vibe of this Polish restaurant is fantastic and we didn't have a reservation (stupidly) but they were able to accommodate us. I had croquettes stuffed with meat and mushroom sauce that had a lovely salad and delicious potato salad (just the way my Eastern European mom makes) and I was so happy with my meal. My husband had 4 cheese/potato pierogies and 4 beef pierogies. They were equally delicious. I also had an amazing rye vodka and currant liqueur cocktail (ok...I had 2... ). The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 (but it would have been much worse). My dinner came out but my husband's didn't. We were assured it was coming. I was now done and still no meal. There was a mix up and the waiter was in training (he was lovely though). But the restaurant manager deeply discounted our dinner (we did not ask or expect him to) and he showed us how much Stash's values its customers and their experience. We would definitely go back because it truly is a special place. Things happen. But how you "fix" those things is what truly matters.

This is my favorite restaurant in Montreal. Only 5 min walk from Embassy Suites. Dishes use authentic Polish recipes. Staff speaks fluent Polish, English and French. I had for dinner flaki (tripe soup), schabowy (schnitzel) and sweet cheese crepe as a desert. All excellent. Total bill including beer came to $50 Canadian.

Amazing food, atmosphere and prices - service was horrible, unfortunately. Our server blamed his forgetfulness of everything we ordered on him going out the night before and being called in last minute. Not our problem. He also didn't write anything down, then he didn't add any of our drinks to the bill? 10-12 beers. Also, we made a reservation a week before, they let a walk in take our spot - we waited at the bar for 40 minutes after. Second time being there. First time was amazing. This time, very unsatisfied seeing how the 6 of us are not from Montreal and came for this restaurant.

Being 50% Polish I was delighted to find this cozy Polish restaurant in Old Montreal. I first read about it in my Montreal travel book and stumbled upon it one evening after having just finished a meal at another restaurant nearby. We were determined to dine there before we left Montreal. We had a Sunday night reservation and the place was full and lively with soft piano music to accompany dinner. Food was amazing!!!!!! The waitress said there are Polish ladies in the kitchen cooking all the food!!!! Whether you are Polish heritage or just interested in some hearty Eastern European food, this place will delight you. We left with our stomachs full and big smiles on our faces.

Stopped for an early dinner and they were able to fit in our group of 5 đź‘Ť
So happy they did.
The food was top class, so tasty and wholesome.
Dumplings to start with, three different types and they were gone if you turned your head.
Mains were even better and really good size portions.
Nice atmosphere too.
Amazing little place.

My partner is Polish, and a great cook, so our standards were high, and this great place lived up to them! The service was the best ever, and the food was perfect! After dismal experiences everywhere all over the city in the last few days, this was the best dining experience here. Each dish was authentically delicious and our servers were prompt and friendly. I would recommend this cute place to anyone visiting Old Montreal!
Probably will go back again before we leave!

We discovered this restaurant by accident. It was close to our hotel, so we decided to try Polish cuisine. My partner and I went here for dinner. We were seated without a reservation, but I recommend making a reservation for the evening, because this reataurant was definitely very popular among locals and it was full here.
Shortly after we made our order, someone started playing the piano. It was very lovely. The live music played here every day from 6pm to 10pm.
We learned from the waiter that the restaurant has been here for fifty years and that the recipes of the dishes offered here have not changed during that time. I had cucumber soup, pierogies and apple pie. The food was so delicious that we decidet to go here again the next day, this time for lunch. I had cucumber soup again, as main dish potato pancakes (placki) and sweet pancakes (nalesniki) for dessert.
Well, what to say? Again the food was absolutely fantastic.
This restaurant was a wonderful surprise for us. I will definitely come back here on my next visit to Montreal.

Consistently excellent for food and service. Portions are good and prices very reasonable. Reservations definitely recommended as the place is always full during key times at least on weekends. Located in the heart of Montreal there is a steady flow of tourists but regulars keep coming back. Polish menu has lots to try and haven't been disappointed yet. There's a starter menu to get a sampling of many items. Filet of sole is also excellent.
