The restaurant is too fancy and the food is only OK. Would concentrate on simpler, but better food. Also breakfast could be improved without adding cost or complexity; just increase variety. I real expresso-cappuccino machine would be a plus.

We had a very enjoyable dinner on Christmas Day evening. We were staying at The Hotel Nelligan so it was the obvious choice being right next door. We selected the wine pairing option. The courses were very good and the service was excellent. Luc gets a special mention for taking good care of us throughout.

My husband set up a surprise birthday party for me at Verses, and it was wonderful. We were 6 people and each of us enjoyed a wonderful dinner. The service was excellent and very professional. The waiters respected our pace and we never felt pressured in any sort. The food was delicious and each plate was like a piece of... More

Must Try the starter 'Feuilleté de pintade braisé', this dish stole the show for me. It was just marvellous. I paired this dish with my main course of 'Braised veal flank, Bourguignon style garnishes, truffled fingerling potatoes'. Very nice, the gravy was just wonderful and Veal very tender, great main dish. Dessert was very surprising, as my wife picked the... More

As a Montrealer, I don't go often in Old-Montreal restaurants because I find a lot of them to be tourist traps. However, following a friend's suggestion, I went to Verses with my spouse and my toddler and was delighted by my experience. I ordered a classic breakfast plate of eggs, ham, sausage, and potatoes, and it was absolutely delicous. It... More

I went to Verses with a group of friends and a few babies in tow for a late brunch on New Year's Eve Day and had a wonderful, warm experience. The waitstaff, particularly our waiters Chris and Julien, were not only attentive, but had a sense of humor and were especially friendly to the two toddlers at the table (and... More

We had an excellent brunch with a late group. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. Our waiters, Chris and Julien, were great and super attentive to all of our needs, which is great for a large group. Smoked salmon eggs Benedict was fabulous!

We had a lovely brunch in a cozy corner of this historic brick restaurant. Service was excellent. Chris and Julien were both friendly and bilingual with great meal suggestions. Menu had some authentic french-Canadian treats. Highly reccomend

Enjoyed a wonderful brunch here with seven adults and a couple of two year-olds. Waiters Chris and Julien made this a stand out experience - attentive, kind, and accommodating to kids and adults alike.

I had New Year's eve dinner at Verses. They seated us early and gave us fantastic service throughout the evening. Given the occasion the restaurant put together a tasting menu for all guests which offered us several courses to try without making many decisions ourself. My first course was king crab which was phenomenal! Highly recommend! I also had a... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
