Excellent restaurant, beautiful elegant ambiance and the service to match. Courses timed well and bottle service well attended. Only complaint is with the placement of the seats in the middle. It is too tight for a group as you are constantly being bumped by service staff and customers. I recommend being seated against the wall.

We came across Bonaparte while trekking through the blizzard on route to another French restaurant from our hotel just a few blocks away. With the wind and blowing snow so fierce, we decided to settle on Bonaparte instead. This proved to be a great decision not just to be out of the storm, but also because we really enjoyed the... We had booked a table here earlier and persevered through the worst snow storm. I have read that Bonaparte was expensive but I have to say we found it really good value. We opted for 3 courses for $39 at the choices and quality were excellent. We tried the soup, the venison terrine and the asparagus for appetizers. Two of... More

Food was delicious and service was great. It may seem a little bit pricey, but you get what you pay, so the prices here reflect the quality of food and service. Definitely will eat here again when I'm back in Montreal.

The food and atmosphere is very French. The service is excellent but on our last visit we found that the food had lost some of it's finesse. Mind you still good but was much better some years ago.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
