I saw so many positive reviews we decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the Restaurant Bonaparte. It was a a disaster. Our first server did not introduce himself so I can’t tell you his name. We were seated promptly by the maitre de (Matthew)...and it went down hill quickly. We ordered salads and also our entrées. We waited and we waited and we waited some more. The server glanced at our table and seemed to notice we had not been served, but he did not speak to us. After almost one hour, my friend went to the maitre de. He came to our table and said he would check on our meal. The server had never put the order in! We talked about leaving but unfortunately decided to stay. Salads were served by a different server and then the very uninteresting entrées were served. We were comped for our wine and a dessert. Even if the entire meal had been comped, nothing could make up for the disastrous evening. Terrible service and mediocre food. Fortunately, we had fabulous dinners and excellent service at Gibby’s and Marcella’s.More
We go evertime when in Canada for a truelly amazing dinner. Everything on the menue is delicious and creative.
Fabulously charming restaurant. We ordered the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Everything was quite tasty, the mushroom ravioli being the table favorite. Only suggestions I’d make would be to dim the lighting as it was extremely bright and to offer the option to pair...the dinner with a premium wine list.More
I had the salmon tartare followed by the Veal chop, and SO had the filet. She's really picky about her filets, and it was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. The salmon tartare was good and the veal chop was very good. Very attentive service. Would...definitely go back again.More
Despite the good reviews this was a disappointing experience. Service was extremely slow (2 courses in 2 hours 10 mins). The appetizer arrived lukewarm, while the main course of lamb arrived with a boiling hot plate and a congealed sauce. The half bottle of wine...we ordered tasted moldy, so it was replaced with one of greater cost. Overall a disappointing meal.More
This was a memorable meal! We were two couples for dinner. Although the restaurant is attached to a hotel, which might seem offputting, it is actually very nicely appointed, and with a luxurious feel. The tables are very well spaced. The staff was as professional...and friendly as any I’ve encountered in a long while! The wine list is extremely large. Best of all is the food, which was uniformly excellent for all of us. If I lived in Montreal this would absolutely be on my favorites list! We all four agreed - a great evening.More
The service was slow, the food was average, and the whole experience was disappointing. Our order was wrong, every stage tool for ever, it was really poor. There is a phrase in Scotland which describes this place exactly - fur coat and nae knickers. It...means all pretension and no substance. Give it a miss.More
On our first night in Montreal, I knew we would want to return to this restaurant which we had enjoyed on past visits. Our memories were not false and the food and service were still outstanding. We began with a glass of champagne to accompany...the wild game terrine appetizer. For our entrees we enjoyed the roasted duck breast and the chicken breast served served with melted brie. We had wine by the glass (sauvignon blanc and a syrah) to accompany our entrees. For dessert we had a chocolate mousse (delicious!) and a cream brulee (also delicious). We had some really fine meals in Montreal and this may have been the best! When we were seated there was a group of 5 or 6 people nearby including a young girl of maybe 6 or 7 who just couldn't seem to sit still. The adults at the table were ignoring her and so she kept getting up and wandering about. Another couple asked to be re-seated, but we decided to stay in place figuring that eventually her mother or grandmother would get her to settle down, but that never happened. I can't say it ruined the evening for us, but it certainly diminished our enjoyment of our meal.More
Glorious, gorgeous, delicious and graceful. The ambience is refined, warm and welcoming. The food was flavourful, and delicious. It was a fabulous evening!
We were a group of 10 for a special birthday dinner. We were seated in a room with 2 other large parties. The service started out very nice and friendly but went down hill. I think the waiter was overwhelmed with the large groups. Our...waiter asked us at least twice to review who ordered what which was very disruptive to the meal. Four of us felt our food was overcooked. I sent back my "medium rare" lamb chops because they were not even pink. Overall the food and service did not meet our expectations.More
Wonderful ambiance, amazing food (make sure to order the chicken and also mushroom ravioli), great service. In old Montréal
Wonderful food. Beautiful restaurant. Excellent service. What more can you say. If you’re in Montreal you must go.
Our favourite meal in Montreal. It is elegant yet not pretentious. We had an amazing meal and wonderful service. Save room for dessert - the selections are outstanding!
What an exceptional service. The waiter was off the chart attentive. Ever detail was taken care off. I wish I had his name so I can mention it in this review. We were celebrating our anniversary and we were not disappointed.
