We went there for our last day in Canada. I'm not a fan of poutine but I was won over. It was good and in sufficient quantity. The setting is small with 1 original decor and 1 fast and friendly staff. Don't be in a hurry to go there otherwise go your way or go there around 3:00 p.m. We ordered 1 scooby and 1 savoyarde with 2 sodas for 1 total of $40 ca which is reasonable. To register without hesitation but without abuse.

A true delight ! La Banquise restaurant offers typical Canadian cuisine in a welcoming and warm atmosphere. Each dish was an explosion of flavor, and the service was quick and efficient. Highly recommend!

We needed a quick place for breakfast before we started the drive back home on a Sunday morning and this fit the bill. We hadn't had poutine yet and it seemed criminal to leave Montreal without having it. So I ordered the traditional breakfast (2 eggs, choice of meat, toast, fruit, and potatoes) and opted to "upgrade" my potatoes to poutine. The eggs were delicious, bacon was crispy (although a bit cold), and the poutine was unreal. The gravy's texture was perfect and paired with the crispy fries and chewy cheese curds beautifully. My husband had the Le Boucheron omelette (filled with ham and swiss) which was absolutely perfectly cooked. So many breakfast places in the US allow the eggs on the outside of the omelette to get brown and dry, but this was perfectly cooked. His breakfast also came with fruit and potatoes and he shared my poutine as well. It was a quick, inexpensive, delicious way to fuel up before hitting the road. We would definitely return!

The worst restaurant I had to eat in was in Montreal. Terrible welcome, customers are treated like wallets on legs. After an interminable wait, crossing a floor saturated with oil, you are seated at a dilapidated table with a simple first-price fork (no knives) and a napkin so thin that you can see through it, we take your time a menu whose pages are half bound and a cup of water, ignoring the hubbub of the speakers, I went to wash my hands in the toilet, hygiene of the latter terrible, faucet and sink trembling, hand dryer HS. I return to the table a minute later, in scorching heat with no air conditioning. Before taking our order the waitress asks us to come in, if we will pay separately, then take express order. The dish served after 20 minutes, we ate a good Poutine, I do justice to the cooks who deserve their reputation. We were pushed several times by the staff eager to collect the bills from the other table When you have eaten your last bite, a waitress grabs your plate and takes it away, asking you afterwards if you are finished, there were four of us and this was done for each of us. The bill being distributed at lightning speed we are evacuating rather from the table. To bring in the next pigeons. The waitresses mentioned earlier were all different, so I don't think my description is exceptional. In summary, the restaurant which is clearly doing well, makes no investment in the place itself, has no sense of welcome and is clearly crowded. As good as the dish may be, this in no way justifies such mistreatment of customers.

La Banquise offers a truly impressive choice of poutines, from the most classic to the most original. Note that there is even a choice among vegetarian poutines. The staff is friendly, the service is rather quick and it is possible to eat on site in the large restaurant room or to buy takeaway. The portions are really very generous and the prices remain affordable. It was at La Banquise that I ate the best poutine of my entire stay in Quebec.

A delicious spot to try traditional Montreal poutine. We waited in line for about 30 minutes to get in, though takeout is usually much faster. We also ordered the chicken sandwich, which was amazing. The service was top-notch. It’s not fancy or anything—it’s more of a fast-food-style place, but totally worth it.

So apparently this place is always busy 24 hrs. Especially in the summer! The wonderful waitress informed that the only time they could see a calmer day and night is at winter but meal hours are always full. Well, i guess thats true! The burger and poutine we had is just so good! We don’t really like poutine but they made us like it! They have 3 bathrooms and ample of tables including an open area at the back. People are always lining up here even at dawn! They take credit/debit. High chair available. Parking is hard to find around the area! See video and image for further reference.

2 of us stopped her on a Friday afternoon around 2pm. Line of people about 20-25 deep waiting to get in. Since we had taken an Uber here, didn't have a choice but to wait. However, Hostess Megan came out and asked anyone in line if they wanted takeout so we ordered and took Uber back to hotel to eat. There were so many great options to choose from but we decided on these 2. La Scooby $14 ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles & Ceasar dressing garlic sauce and La shoot-out $15 smoked meat, bacon, spicy sausage and pepperoni. Both were regular size and more than enough for 2 meals. Both tasted phenomenal. If you are looking to try poutine, this is definitely the place to visit. We would go back here again if in Montreal for sure.

The line is worth the wait at this lively, colorful diner where you'll jockey for elbow space as you dig in to heaping plates of poutine. Yes, they have other dishes, but with 30 varieties of poutine, there's something for everyone to enjoy, even a hot dog topping. Soft drinks and beer for accompanying beverages.

If you don't eat poutine during a stay in eastern Canada, you haven't really been there! And if you do eat poutine, then do it properly: at Banquise in countless variations! Unlike other restaurants, this one no longer has a fast-food feel; the staff is also friendly and super efficient. It's worth the detour... even for poutine skeptics!

I found this place during my search to find the best place to have poutine in Montréal and La Banquise came among the top three. I went there with my friend. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is quite tricky. Usually, there will be a long queue to get a spot, especially after 6 pm and during weekends. I should say the usp of this place is the sheer variety of poutines. You can definitely find one of your liking. They have two sizes - big and small. In my opinion, small itself is quite heavy for a person. So big could be easily shared by more than two people, I guess. A few things could be improved. We sat on a table for two, which was very small. We had a hard time eating in that small place. Also, the plates in which they served poutine were also quite small, which makes it difficult to eat comfortably. Otherwise, it was a good experience for me there. I would recommend this place if you want to try poutine in Montréal.

Went to the most amazing restaurant that had 30 variations of poutine and was establIshed in 1968. Upon arrival, there was a line out the door however the line moved quickly. Our party had allergy restrictions which the server was quick to accommodate. We had the poutine with smoked meat which was absolutely amazing and tasty. There was a generous portion of meat on top of cheese curds that was on top a huge serving of delicious French fries. We also had the bacon and mushrooms poutine which also was very tasty. Highly recommend waiting in line for this delicious food

We waited on line outside in a very orderly queue for about 30 mins and it was worth it. Service was great, we didn’t feel rushed, and food was out of this world. We got the pastor and the Elvis. So delicious. Great selection of local beers as well. Highly recommend. As an added bonus: This is a good destination because after you’re done and need to walk off your poutine you can easily access the main streeet (st Denis) w adorable shops etc.

This place was packed! There was a line on the sidewalk for take-out as well as dine-in. I ordered a regular Beef & onion poutine. The wait was about 15-20 mins due to the crowd. The container was stuffed to the brim with loads of beef, onions and cheese curds and gravy covered fries (frites). The frites were cooked well but the interior was softer/mushier than I like. So much food that I couldn't finish it. I only ate about half. It's a good dish to share. If you like poutine, I think you'll like this place.

This is a popular spot for poutine. You will know it when you are waiting in a line at 2:30 in the afternoon. The food didn't disappoint. They have a large selection of poutine and have great options for vegetarians which is tougher to find. We had a large group which they were able to sit and each of us enjoyed our poutine. I would say if you are going in and just having poutine that you could get a regular size and be just fine. We were sharing the regular size and walked away feeling good about how much we ate. The place is small but they have some outdoor seating as well. I would expect that you would wait at anytime of day, but it is worth the wait.

Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
