We ate last night at Tabla, a small Indian restaurant on St. Catherine Street in the gay village. The restaurant is quite nicely appointed, and their food is quite good. We had the Karahi Gosht with lamb, the Bengal Fish Curry, and the Palak Paneer and were able to get them spiced to our liking. The restaurant is unassuming and... More

Set your expectations to match the place. Consistent, tasty food served at just the right pace. Tandoori chicken, lamb buhna, butter chicken, fantastic naan, vegatbek pakora, fluffy basmati rice. Well cooked and presented. Great value - great food.

Love this place. Lunch menu is not huge, but choices are very good. The fish curry and the Tandoori chicken sandwich are my favorites.

This is a very nice byob option in the village. Forgive the decor and concentrate on the food, which is well prepared and served. Any of the "for two people" table d'hôte are well worth the money. Naan, rice, sauces - they hit the mark on the basics with fresh and vibrant flavours. We had butter chicken (very good) and... More

Our family dined there on a Friday night with 7pm reservations. I liked that the restaurant was peaceful for a get together as the Village is pretty lively on a Friday night. The restaurant is also very well located in the heart of the Village amidst many hopping bars and restaurant, in fact it might have been a sign that... More

We started out at a different Italian restaurant but they didn't have a wine list so we moved on to this wonderful small Indian restaurant where we had eaten before. Again a great meal and friendly service. This restaurant continues to live up to its rep and we enjoyed the food, the service and the reasonable price Looking forward to... More

Great Indian cuisine. This is not a restaurant to miss while in the gay village. The rice pudding at the end of our meal was a nice surprise.

My wife and I ate lunch here with friends and absolutely loved it! Nestled in Montreal's gay village, it's a gem of a restaurant. Attentive staff and we'll thought out and prepared dishes. Best Indian food I've had in a while.

We ate at Tabla Village with another couple after attending the Canadian Grand Prix. Our spicy meals were just what we needed after a long, chilly day at the race. We each ordered samosas, and I ordered the spicy prawns with a side of basmati rice. My dish was perfectly spicy and the prawns were well cooked. We all cleaned... More

Staying in The Village (Gay Village)

Neighbourhood Profile
The Village (Gay Village)
The rainbow pillars of Beaudry Métro Station shepherd the way into to The Village, one of the largest hubs for gay and lesbian culture in North America. With an open layout and a congenial aura, the refurbished buildings along Rue Sainte-Catherine pay a special homage to menswear and to caffeine, with showrooms and cafes. By morning, the antiquing gems along Amherst Street are packed with collectors. An incredible party spot, The Village comes alive at night, when clubs, bars, and dance halls open their doors and the revelry is high, epitomised by the fanciful trimmings of the apropos Oscar Wilde building. From May to September, the area closes to automotive traffic, allowing restaurant terraces to pour onto the streets, creating a dynamic sense of community. Les Boules Roses, thousands of pink baubles, are hung to welcome in the festivals and celebrations, including Montréal en Arts, Divers-Cité, and the Pride Parade.
