About
Built in 1910 by Military Tailor, R.J. Inglis, the building at 1210 Peel Street became the Rymark Tavern in the early 30's. For over 60 years the Rymark was a destination spot for Pigs Knuckles and Baked Beans. In 1992 McLean's Pub was established by the legendary Montreal barman, Ian McLean. Ian loved the warm and inviting atmosphere, with its oak beamed ceilings, hand carved fireplace, and many other unique features. With his incredible charm and a handpicked staff, Ian created a new pub on the scene. He has since passed, but his namesake and life's work is now a landmark pub in downtown Montreal!

Left this place 4-7 minutes ago and I couldn’t write this review fast enough. The worst service AND food we have ever experienced! They were incredibly busy, we understood completely. It took, no exaggeration 40+ minutes to get a waitress to take our food order....No big deal we figured it was going to be worth the wait. Absolutely inedible food and even worse the staff.More

Very poor experience at Mcleans in Montreal just before taking a flight back to the UK. I've read the other reviews left by customers who thought the food was terrible. I can confirm that it surely is. The fries were oily and soggy. I too...was unsure whether they were sweet potato or white potato chips cooked in ten day old oil. I couldn't decide! The Spencer steak, onions and bun were resting in oil. I remember the food for all the wrong reasons and I felt sick from it on the way home. I looked around at the other unfortunates eating at the pub and all the food looked as bad as what was in front of me. In the days of old pubs like this could treat passing customers badly and no-one would know about it. Now, with reviews it's a different matter. If this was a pub in the UK I would report it to the Food Standards Agency.More

Due to the proximity to our hotel (Marriott Chateau Champlain), McLean's Pub is always our first stop upon arriving in Montreal and is usually where you can find us after a busy day of shopping and sightseeing. Sometimes we stop just for a drink, sometimes...for a snack or full meal at incredibly reasonable prices, but we're always warmly welcomed and enjoy both the conversation and the great service provided by the staff.More

It's not fancy like some but is very much a pub where you can get a solid drink and a meal. Upstairs was much quieter than the lower level.

We stopped into McLeans just because we were tired and wanted to sit at a bar. No great expectations. Glad we did. This place is friendly, clean, lively, with great food and drink. The bartender, Dave, I think, was a great source of information and...very good at his job. As the place filled up soon after we got there, the staff was very very busy, but we had a great time. Now, the food. We ordered the $6 Chili Dog on Dave's recommendation. Jameson Chili, so it says on the menu. This is the best chili I've had in a long time. Really hit the spot. You know for sure that the next time we come north of the border, we'll be visiting McLeans.More

Our server was Gabrielle and she was terrific. Quick on her feet and knew the area really well. Atmosphere is very traditional pub like with dark wood tables. Stopped here for a couple of drinks before starting the walk up to Park Mont Royal. Draft...beer was $7.61 and a large pour of chardonnay was $13. We enjoyed the hour we spent at McLeans.More

Stopped at this pub after getting off the city tour bus for a couple of drinks and something to eat, I wish we walked passed the place. Drinks came after a long wait and my wife's fish and chips that she ordered was the most...disgusting dish of food that I have ever seen let alone eat it.I asked the server if the chips were sweet potato or ordinary potato they looked like something pulled out of the bin and the fish was so over fried the batter was dripping in oil in fact there was hardly any fish to be had. If I had given that dish of food to the rough sleepers they would have thrown it away.I have drunk and eaten in Irish pubs all over the world and this place has to be the worst.IRISH it is not.thank goodness I was on holiday and I don't have to go any where near this place again . Hi, Yes, by law our establishment is 18 years and older. We are a bar that serves food (and has lottery video machines) and not a restaurant that serves alcohol. Sorry, wish we could have you visit us. Cheers, Stuart
