The 4 of us decided to try as much as we could, we ordered 4 appetizers, a doz oysters and 2 entrees (braised veal and ‘Chef’s aspiration’ which was a Guinea fowl.) and had 3 desserts… none of us could pick our fav but the tartar was on very one’s list)
Yes, the oysters were fresh, but if you love your oysters plump, then I recommend you trade that for another app!
Charles, thanks for a wonderful evening. We came to eat and you fed us well!!

Go there! You won’t be disappointed. They serve sharing plates which are so full of flavour, colour and freshness. The quality of the food is excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, with friendly staff in this trendy restaurant.

We weren't sure we would get a table given the fantastic reviews, but on a rainy Saturday evening we did get a table straight away.
We had four entrées, one main and two desserts between the two of us, and I'm struggling to pick which was the best. All the food was fantastic - talking on the way back to our hotel, my partner and I decided that there was a hero with each dish that made all of them memorable. The mustard cream with the rilettes, the cauliflower puree with the venison, the smoked pumpkin puree with the chausson salé. I could go on and on.
And the service - friendly, casual yet intimate and attentive. Just fantastic.
Needless to say, just go. It's great!

Very interesting restaraunt. Came here with family during our trip to Quebec. It is a bit hidden and not in the central part of the city but worth visiting it. The service was very good and our waiter was very friendly. The food was excellent but the portions are small. What I really liked was the food all tasted homemade and didn't have salty, processed sauces. We ordered three appetizer's and 1 entrée for each person. The shrimp soup is a must try. Only reason why I am not giving 5 stars is the interior is a bit dark but other than that, it is a great restaraunt.

The meal was really EXCELLENT, both the entrées and the main dishes. The proprietor was very friendly, and clearly takes a pride in what he does: food as a work of art , like a multi-sensory experience. Really, we thought this was the best experience either of us had had at a French restaurant in Canada.
(This restaurant is located slightly out of town - an easy Uber or bike ride from the Old Town. But worth it.)

A little way outside the centre of old Quebec, but well worth the short taxi ride to get there. Not at all touristy.
Really interesting and tasty dishes in a utilitarian dining room. Small plates. We had panzanella with tofu, black pudding, sweetbreads with gnocchi and veal cheeks. And then another veal cheeks as it was so good!
Friendly and well-informed service.

Unpretentious restaurant making the journey very pleasant. Friendly atmosphere, very friendly staff.
The wine is served at just the right temperature and the food is excellent, especially the black pudding.
A great discovery in my city that I didn't know about and which has existed since 2012!
Good luck to Charles and his team and we look forward to seeing you again.

We walked from our Quebec City hotel to this great out of the way restaurant .
Despite not being able to speak French to them the staff were incredibly friendly and chatty.
The food was amazing.
Brilliant carpaccio and gorgonzola salad followed by sublime venison ribeye with delightful vegetables. Finishing up with crème brule to die for .
All washed down by a nice French red blend , selected from an extensive wine list .
What an amazing find .

Recommended to us by our concierge at Hotel Pur, we would not have found this hidden gem on our own. What a find! Service excellent, food delicious and ambiance spot on. As we’d eaten lunch we didn’t have starters and went straight to mains. I had pork with lentils, blue cheese and celeriac. My partner had black pudding with mushroom and shrimp ravioli. We shared a chocolate fondant, also delicious. Menu was interesting, different and plenty of options to have small or large plate. Lots of choice for wine too- we had the Pinot from US and thoroughly enjoyed it. So good we’ve booked to return tomorrow!

We stopped here our first night in Quebec. Glad we did and this was our first experience. The staff here was so wonderful with helping us order. We got a meat sampler plate because we weren’t sure what we would like. Omg! Delicious. Portions are much smaller than us “piggies” in the US. But it was filling. Their lava cake...to die for. Most places in Quebec are....you ask for the check and pay at counter.

La Gueule de Bois - French Canadian Cuisine
[During our stay in Quebec City, we stayed in the area of Saint-Roche at the PUR Hotel away from the beautiful, yet very busy and touristic Old Town.]
In our search for a local restaurant visited mostly by locals with typical French Canadian food, we found this hidden gem. This small quaint restaurant receives FIVE STARS for SUPERB aroma and presentation of mouth watering dishes. It has outstanding service, and it’s evident the Chef has a passion and love of cooking with his amazing flavor filled creations. The scallops and artichoke starters were delicious! As well as the lamb, fish of the day, and skirt steak. We sampled 2 of their decadent desserts! Exceptional meal, as evident by our photo, to end our stay in Quebec City.
