Before our trip to Quebec, we made several dinner reservations, including Chez Muffy, after reading a few reviews. After spending time at the nearby Musee de Civilisation, we walked to Chez Muffy and entered the building. What we had not realized was that it was located in the Auberge de San Antoine hotel. Once inside the building, we followed signs to the “restaurant” but couldn’t find it initially. Our reservation was at 5:30pm. After checking at the bar we found, we learned the restaurant opened at 5:30 and was behind a red curtain which covered the actual entrance!
A few minutes after 5:30, the curtains were pulled back and the door opened to a very impressive restaurant with the original walls of a maritime warehouse and wood ceiling beams! We were seated at a window overlooking the St Lawrence River! The furniture was very comfortable and a fire was burning in the room to enhance a cozy feeling. The service was very good and the food excellent! My husband and I did not pick an appetizer but our server brought us a small treat to tide us over until our meal was ready. He (employee #32) emphasized that the items are cooked slowly on purpose. I must mention that the bread we were given was very tasty too! We each ordered the Roasted Lamb Loin, which was accompanied by ravioli stuffed with fresh goat cheese and lamb, green peas and surrounded by mint puree and a fresh garlic puree! Every bite was exceptional! My only complaint was that the size of the two pieces of lamb could have been a little larger. We enjoyed our Maillot wine!
We did manage to save room for dessert and decided to share. Although the choice was hard to make, we chose the “ Poêlée” of mixed plums” which had plums from La Marianne, spiced shortbread and cinnamon ice cream! It was yummy and I wished we had each ordered our own! I should mention that local fishermen and farmers are the source of food for the restaurant.
I must say that this dinner was certainly one we shall remember as being outstanding! I encourage others to make reservations when you plan your trip. Do persevere in finding the restaurant behind the red curtains and you will not be disappointed!

We arrived at 6 for dinner, and were seated immediately. The restaurant is beautiful and the wait staff were very friendly. We ordered the lobster for an appetizer; my only critique of the night is that the lobster appetizer was expensive for the portion size. The main course was the prime rib, and it was exceptional! It was a large steak, cooked to perfection and seasoned nicely. It came with potatoes and salad, both were very nicely prepared. We left pleasantly full and really enjoyed being there. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice dinner!

What a great family breakfast experience. First of all, very welcoming and warm staff who were able to find us a table without prior reservation.
A very qualitative and varied buffet. Unlimited pressed fruits such as hot chocolate, coffee and tea. Finally, elaborate and refined dishes that delight our taste buds at a very reasonable price.

Having enjoyed a magnificent stay at Auberge St Antoine and eaten delightful meals from the room service menu (I love their orzo soup), we had high expectations for Chez Muffy. We reserved a table to celebrate my birthday. While I have to say that the service was excellent throughout, sadly the food was very disappointing. Our dry aged prime rib was dry, overcooked and tasteless. We decided to skip lunch and arrive with an appetite, to better enjoy various courses, but once we tasted the prime rib, we decided against desserts & coffee. I was surprised that the food could be so dramatically different, but the waiter explained to us that there are different kitchens handling the different food service areas. I do want to stress that the Maitre d' and other servers were excellent and very helpful throughout our time at the restaurant. Sadly, we wouldn't recommend the restaurant to others, because the meal was such a disappointment. Had it been a busy evening, or a weekend when events could have been a factor, it would have been understandable, but it was a weeknight and we were told that a separate kitchen handles events. We can't justify the cost for such mediocre food, which is a shame.

We were at Chez Muffy last night. It has a beautiful atmosphere and the service was good, but for the price, it is substandard to the other high end restaurants that we have visited during our stay in Quebec. Our bill was $650 for 2 of us. One of us had the wine pairing and we had the tasting menu, $120 for 4 courses. However, they charge extra for the fish dish and extra for another dish. Most of the dishes were just not THAT special. Some quite bland tasting. The quantity and quality/taste of the food just didn't warrant the price.
We have eaten at some amazing restaurants while in Quebec and paid similar prices. The other restaurants we walked away feeling "Wow!" At Chez Muffy we felt cheated!

Very disappointing. We arrived for our reservation and had to wait half an hour and the restaurant was not full. Our coffees all came at different times- cold and not great quality and took 25 minutes. Our order was taken 40 minutes after we sat down. The food was not great, cold and two dishes came without all the ingredients. The maître de was not friendly, attentive or particularly polite. Our wait person was unorganized and at times confused.
This was to be a special brunch in a historic setting. We will not return or recommend to friends.

For the 3-course menu, I had the duck tartare & pan fried foie gras for starter, and the Quebec deer in clay crust for main course. While both required a supplement, it was pretty worthwhile given the size of the serving fod foie gras and deer meat. It was also interesting to watch the waiter break open the clay in which the deer meat was baked. As for dessert, the mer et montagnes chocolate was good too. Being located in a maritime warehouse dating from 1822, the restaurant has a wonderful setting (think stone walls and wooden beams), with a fireplace which was lovely in winter.

Chez Muffy located in the Auberge Saint - Antoine Hotel offers wonderful breakfast options in a lovely and relaxing setting. The food was delicious and made with the finest ingredients but what I want to comment on is the dining experence and the absolute 5 star service we received from Hugo Begue. Hugo has such a great attitude and definitely aimed to please making sure we had what we needed. His smile was infectious and his manner with customers is par excellance. We loved Hugo and his service (as well as the food) that we had to come back for more. Chez Muffy is 100% worth going to and you'll be lucky if Hugo is your waiter and if you do go, let Hugo know Nancy and Brad from Texas sent you.

We did not actually dine at Chez Muffy so I cannot comment on their food/ambiance. I can comment on an absurd business practice. They charged us $100 cancel fee for canceling a reservation even though we cancelled more than 24hrs in advance. We called to cancel at around 3:00pm the day before our reservation for dinner at 6:30pm the next day...approximately 27 hrs in advance. I fully understand charging a no show fee or a late cancel fee ie. same day, but seriously?
$100 when canceling more than 24hrs in advance is egregious! BEWARE

Dear Mollyo60w,
We understand that these fees may seem high to you, but we mention at the time of booking that we accept cancellations up to 48 hours before the meal. We apply this rule because we are a restaurant that chooses to serve fewer tables in order to serve you better. This choice, of which we are proud, means that when a table cancels it has major financial consequences. We hope you'll understand.
We wish you a very pleasant day,

We ate breakfast here since we are staying at the hotel. We had the Portuguese style eggs with flank hangar steak with juice and access to the buffet for fruit and bread. The table came with homemade preserves made of berries and mint or caramel and tea. Very unique and delicious and for sale at the front desk. I can’t wait for dinner in this cozy atmosphere with beautiful wood on a rainy day.

This restaurant has excellent food quality in a very nice atmosphere right in the heart of Old Quebec City. But, be aware that they charge $120 (CA) for their fixed price menu (drinks are extra). We were very impressed, however, with how receptive manager Jean-Francois Bedard was about our feedback that it would be helpful to be more transparent and upfront in any marketing they do about their price structure. He offered us a very nice complimentary breakfast the next day, which was delicious, and we felt was a very nice touch! So, again, if you're good with splurging for an excellent meal, enjoy!

Chez Muffy provided a wonderful Christmas Eve experience with delicious food, attentive service, and a cozy, homely atmosphere. The warm decor and inviting ambiance created a perfect holiday setting. The menu highlighted locally sourced ingredients, showcasing the best of Quebec's culinary traditions. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning on my next visit to Quebec City

Embarrassing from start to finish.
Horrible, inedible food with no consideration of taste given. The amuse bouche was a pretzel with tomato paste that tasted like something a 5 year old would make home alone. The starter seemed to be an attempt to eliminate all that’s good about salmon. The main was swordfish cooked like chicken in some sort of a whipped cream sauce and devoid of all flavor, technique, or general culinary awareness.
Dessert and the following accompaniment made me gag, and then laugh.
Dopey music, an iPad wine list, and transparent attempts at getting the customer to pay more completed the picture.

Splendid brunch on March 10, 2024...A carefully composed and interesting menu with a variety of flavors. Everything was cooked and presented beautifully, and delicious. For dessert - instead of making a difficult choice among the four desserts listed on the menu, we were served a tray of four different tiny bites, each different and special. The restaurant provides a beautiful setting - old stone walls and massive timbers of a 200 year old structure. This is as good as it gets.

On Aug. 9th, at 7:15 a.m. we arrived at the hostess's desk at Chez Muffy. Since they do not take reservations and since we were staying at a different hotel in the area, we were told at the front desk of the hotel that because it was early we’d still be seated. Upon arriving at the restaurant we saw that, with the exception of two people already in the restaurant, the place was empty with no people even waiting to get in. Once the hostess determined that we were not at their hotel, she rudely refused to seat us saying, “I have 180 guests at the hotel who I need to serve, so I’m sorry I can’t seat you.” I asked again thinking there must be a mistake since there was no on in sight, and once again she flatly refused to seat us. We left shaking our heads at how rude and inhospitable she was. Clearly more training is needed on how to be polite and welcoming to those visiting your city.
