Nice looking restaurant in Tadoussac. Very limited menu, it’s either sea, land or vegetarian tasting menu with or without wine pairing. Very limited and expensive à la carte menu. We had the sea tasting menu, of the 5 dishes one was delicious (cabbage lobster tacos),...two good including dessert, another interesting and the last one just ok. Wine pairing was ok. Extremely overpriced, not a good price/quality. Service was very good, but overall not an experience that we will repeat. Very overpriced.More

With three of us, we were able to have one of each of Chez Mathilde’s blind tasting menus: land, sea and vegetarian. All the courses were throughly novel and exquisite. Possibly the only time I’ll taste surf clam feet or lichen (both worked just fine)....The two people who had wine pairings were enthusiastic about the quality and how well they complemented the dishes. Small glasses meant that over five courses one drank about 2.5 regular glasses of wine: judge for yourself if you can manage that. The servers explained everything thoroughly. Really, every course was a winner and we had a lovely time. Well worth the price. There was a pianist who played a quiet set. Very pleasant.More

Made reservations at the chef’s bar and the experience exceeded my expectations. Food and wine were excellent but what really made the experience was the service and the genuineness of the interactions. There was pride and true passion in the preparation and presentation of the...food and drink without a hint of any pretentious. Food foraged from the forest had unique presentations and there was an ongoing theme of using the whole food creatively and not being wasteful. People complaining about the prices in these reviews don’t understand the cost of quality ingredients or appreciate the time involved in preparing these menu items. Can I give this place 6 stars???More

Located in a small and unassuming house, Chez Mathilde offers a truly memorable dining experience. I LOVED the casual and inviting decor and ambiance while serving the most interesting, fresh and delicious food I've ever tasted. When we were there, CM offered a menu that...featured either, a land-based (meat) focus; a sea/food focus or a vegetarian focus. You could choose one 'experience' that would feature 5 different dishes. Each course was accompanied by a description provided by our enthusiastic server. All the ingredients are locally sourced (the crab I had was caught that morning) and several of them were foraged. Just nothing like I've ever had. If you have a big family or even a small family that eats large quantities of whatever, then this place is probably not for you. Granny's Buffet it isn't! Each of our five courses was small and beautifully served. PLENTY of food, because it was all very rich, for me and all in my group. But, I raised two boys who did love loading up their plates at a buffet. This wouldn't have been great for them... just delicious. It's also a bit pricey, but then you're getting the best ingredients prepared individually in an artful way. I read other reviews complaining about rude service. We had the opposite experience. Helpful and friendly for us. Do yourself a favor and check it out.More

This is creative cooking at its best. A multicourse meal with a choice of meat, seafood?or vegetarian. As someone who took the vegetarian option, I was delighted to see it was just as Creative and interesting as the others (not to be taken for granted.)...Also, each Course looked like a work of art. Best meal I've had since covid,More

I noticed that once, you discover a nice restaurant you fall in love with. Then you want to repeat the experience, then somebody has decided to change the formula. Then you end up expecting… and experience disappointing. Chez Mathilde used to be a place where...you’d order a delicious cassoulet for $30 some… Now it is forcing you to order (nothing else to order a la carte unless you like red meat) to select a 5 service degustation menu that can only be appreciated if you can understand all the effort they put in preparing the dish. In the end, if you think about the present moment and taste the result for what it is, I have experienced degustations at Costco that were more tasteful than some of the dishes I was served, for a price of $95 + $45 CAD matching wine package per person. The quality is there no doubt but you better be in an augmented reality mood where what the server tells you about how the dish was done, can favourably substantiate the taste of what you are experiencing. In the end I think that for $450 cad, I could have had 2 nice meal at the Gibar in Tadoussac.More

What a wonderful experience! You don’t expect to find such innovative food in such a remote location. The 5 course ‘blind menu’ was full of novel dishes building up to a perfect ‘main course’ of venison. The service was excellent with every course being carefully...explained. This is a foodie place and unashamedly so. The food matches with the best that Europe can offer and coming from the UK compares with Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume in Cartmel, Lake District.More

1 SERVICE 1 AMBIANCE 3 Definitely not for families. Not worth the money. Strict bare minimum service and tiny tiny dishes (not even appetizer size). Tourist trap. You leave feeling like you haven't eat dinner yet. Not a place for families. It is more for...couples on their fist date and eating is not the main goal.More

The employee behind the window seemed very unenthusiastic. The food was really basic and expensive. As my son said, "not a lot of love went into this burger".

My rating: 4.5 stars. Chez Mathilde is very popular and reputed to be the best restaurant (with highest prices) in Tadoussac. We ate there yesterday – at the only slot open for a reservation in the entire week we were there (a 5 PM seating)....They have 4 set menus and they seemingly vary them so some degree by the whim of the chef (one is vegetarian – NOT vegan – and another is foods from the sea). Our dishes were beautiful presented – 4 courses that were all small but very good (2 of the menus have 5 dishes and cost a bit more). Our wine cost $60 (mid priced on their menu), was a private import from Spain, and was excellent. The only problems were with the before dinner drinks – they didn’t have key ingredients for both drinks we ordered (one the drink of the day, and the other a very basic liqueur) – the reason they didn’t get our full 5-star rating.More

We booked this restaurant just by visiting the website. If you think to get a Chicken Parm or a burger or a portion so large you will be eating on it for 3 days... pass you way, this is not the place for you! This...place is proudly keeping a deliberate shroud on the menu and specialize in TASTING 4 or 5 services meals all freshly done from VERY local and fresh ingredient, some could be somewhat surprisingly prepared and presented. This allow the chef to keep stock low and fresh so he can vary the meal at his whim and inspiration. We opted to get a 5 services with wine pairing. WHAT A PERFECTLY DONE research to - not only come up with unusual food pairing in the plate but to go beyond the regular wine list and go to the extend of doing some private import. Although the building itself seems to be more fitting for a clamshack or some pub, it is a very high end restaurant proud of their exceptional cuisine. The decor is just adding to this element of surprisingly sobre but excellent mastership of the cuisine. Even we confronted to some intolerance or allergies, the chef will go out if his way to create something nothing short of a mouthful masterpiece .... Do I recommend ??? Definitively and without reserve! But be ready to received a bill corresponding to such unique and tasteful cuisine. BUT IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY of the price tag.More

After two years we eagerly waited for the return to "Chez Mathilde". The previous experience in October 2018 as a couple was an unforgettable one and therefore this time we decided to return, but now also with our three children, to re-experience the exquisite gastronomy...of chef Sicard. It is to be said that we were a bit unsure if the menu will be also suitable for the children, but in the end, they fully enjoyed every bit of the menu, partially changed to adapt itself also to the youngster's taste. As opposed to the menu we ordered in 2018, everything was new, it was an evening of gastronomic discoveries, based on local ingredients, and adapted to fulfil the ideology of the chef. Therefore, I would really recommend the option of taking the "Grand Cote" to fully experience the greatness of this cuisine. If possible, combine it with the wine menu, chosen by the restaurant's team - it is really a great combination for each part of the dinner. It was a real pleasure to meet again with chef Sicard, was happy that they managed to get through these harsh times, and really hope to meet again!More

There was much hype about this restaurant, so we had high expectations. . Although each one of our plates was very tasty and well presented, At $60 per person for the table d’hôte, We were quite disappointed in the very small portions, we left feeling...hungry, and we are not big eaters! For dessert, it was a disappointing chocolate pudding with whip cream… Not five-star dining worthyMore

The restaurant and atmosphere is simple, in a very casual, touristy small town. Expectations were not high despite being recommended by some local friends. But then you are served your fixed menu of 4 or 5 courses and suddenly you realize you are experiencing very...unique, well prepared, creative plates. One of the top meals I have had in the past several years. Definitely recommended for the food. The service is friendly, but average. The atmosphere is very relaxed and un-fancy. Frankly, a little tight on spacing for COVID-19 (without any plastic of plexiglass dividers seen in many other restaurants). BTW; one of the 4-course menus is all vegetarian (and good!). Wine list is average. Overall value is good/fair for the evening.More

This place is a gem, amazing food in a cosy atmosphere and warm service. We have tried few other restaurants but this is by far the best. The food was so delicious and fresh. Definitely you shouldn't miss this restaurant if you are into good...food and good service. We were there for dinner while on our holiday, we loved it so much that we went over for another dinner before leaving Tadoussac. The chef, food and the staff are amazing, the food is so nice and tasty everything was excellent, the meat, the lobster the fish.....I highly recommend it and we will definitely be back next summer.More
