We three had a celbratory supper in mid July. Reception was friendly and professional. We had drinks to start; they were well done and came quickly. A serving of bread and butter was provided. For appetizers we had two orders of the escargots, and one...of calamari. All were very well done. The escargot presentation, unshelled in a dish with butter and bread, was nicely different. The mains selection is a-la-carte. We had one order of trout with herb pistou sauce, and sides of risotto and mushroom/pearl onions. The other two orders were for the angus tenderloin, one sauced with bernaise and the other with peppercorn glace. Both had sides of roast potatoes. One had a side of veg with balsamic. The other had roast potatoes and mushroom/pearl onions.
All the proteins were well made and cooked to order. The roast potatoes and risotto were very good. Sadly, the mushroom/pearl onions were far too spicy - just one level down from szechuan hot! They were essentially inedible.
We had two deserts - the apple toffee crisp, and the cookies n' cream. They were very good. The third diner had an irish coffee; the glass rim was sugared, but not carmelized.
After the meal I mentioned the over-spiced side dishes to our young server and said he should tell the chef. He said he would, adding I was the second customer that evening to mention the hot mushrooms and onions!
A restaurant of this calibre and at their prices should not be making basic cooking errors like over-spicing food. Moreso, given the server noting it was a common error that evening, he should have offered a bill adjustment. He didn't - perhaps due to inexperience.
I have rated this restaurant 2/5 for the combination of an inedible side dish coupled with no offer of an adjustment to our hefty bill. I recommend diners be sure to raise any complaints about food early, and they clearly suggest a bill adjustment would be in order.More
The service was outstanding! Our glasses were never empty. The hostess was quick and friendly! Waitress was attentive, made great recommendations, very friendly and customer service oriented. She was knowledgeable about the menu and the ingredients used on all menu items. The entire building was...very clean, the table wear was polished fine dining quality. For a historic building high quality standards were met! The food was fabulous. They professionally hand cut their own steaks, and they were delicious! Socially distanced tables. Our experience was great start to finish. Highly recommend to anyone going through Moose Jaw looking for a fantastic fine dinning experience. Thank you!More
Walked into the beautiful hotel and was mesmerized by its opulence. The dinning room was just as brilliant. The menu online is out of date. The new cook slashed the offered dishes in half. So I wasn’t able to go with any of my original...choices. Tried the herb chicken instead which was juicy and well cooked. My sisters steak was done perfectly as well. The server was friendly and prompt. I truly enjoyed her service. I had just finished my water glass, and she was over with a new ice water for me. While the meal was no Gordon Ramsey quality (the risotto wasn’t spot on), the overall experience certainly made up for it. The next time I stay in Moose Jaw, it will be at the Grant Hotel with reservations for the hall. Tip worthy experience.More
While in Moose Jaw on March 12th stopped at the Grant Hall lounge for a quite evening drink. That was not possible as there was a young lady playing the piano and trying to sing. Will not make that same mistake again. There was another...couple that came in sat down and left when they heard the noise!More
