the food is good, and few of the servers are perfect. Some, however are the worst I have ever had. Some moron confused a rose with a white, and accused me of being wrong. I have politely commented on their main website: no response. I...can't believe how stupid the service is : they can't see the difference between a rose and a white. They did not offer to reduce the charges. Incompetent.More

Our Farewell Food Tour of Saskatoon: Shift The Food Dining with another couple we started with three appetizers. We had the Crispy Mediterranean Ribs & Charred Calamari, while our friends shared a generous serving of Beef Tartare. The Mediterranean Ribs were cooked to a crispy,...juicy perfection and arrived dusted with chili, fried herbs, & parmesan. We’re often disappointed when ordering ribs as an appy so we were a bit uncertain ordering this, but our host assured us that this was a great choice and he wasn’t wrong. These ribs were delicious. The Charred Calamari was the star of our appy choices. Cooked to perfection with vine-ripened tomatoes, capers and brown butter this gem was served with a side of toasted focaccia perfect for mopping up the delicious sauce. Our Toronto condo is in the heart of Little Portugal (where grilled calamari is a religion) so we know good grilled calamari when we have it — and Shift’s is superb. While we had only a small sample of Beef Tartare we can vouch for its deliciousness. The rich beef is mixed with capers, gherkins and Dijon mustard and served with bannock crisps. Both the Polish and Scottish halves of our food heritage were left smiling - and wanting more. Each couple ordered the same two mains: Brick-pressed Cornish Hen and Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder. We were told that portions were generous, but none of us were prepared for the amount of food that was to come. The Cornish Hens were served with a warm potato & green bean salad, caramelized onions and an absolutely delicious chicken jus. We always admire restaurants that can nail a rich, delicious jus and with the exception of a jus we were served at the superlative St. Lawrence Restaurant in Vancouver this was possibly the best we’ve had in Canada - full stop. If you get a chance and it’s still on the menu this is a “must-have” dish. The Pork Shoulder was cooked in a house made BBQ sauce and served with an exceptional macaroni & cheese casserole & green beans. This was a yummy dish, even if the pork wasn't quite what we expected. Usually pork shoulder is served pulled, and given that it was being served with Mac & cheese we expected that this would be the presentation for this dish. In this case the pork shoulder was cut as a boneless, single piece and while tasty we would have loved to have had a pile of lovingly pulled, fatty shoulder meat to combine with the Mac & Cheese. But this is a first-world problem; the pork was tender and delicious while the Mac & Cheese itself was amazing. The five cheeses in the casserole ensured that the “Cheese” was the star of the dish, not the “Mac” - works for us. Ambiance We were fortunate enough to be seated on Shift's gorgeous outdoor terrace on a delightfully warm summer evening. The terrace overlooks the South Saskatchewan River and the walking/cycling paths that border the west bank. Being able to watch the sky being painted with sunset hues while watching groups of people enjoying an evening stroll was a lovely addition to the evening. Service Because of our dinner companions our very competent and attentive servers were supporting cast to Shift's GM, who went out of his way to make our experience extra-special. But we have no doubt that we would have been very well taken care of by any of the Shift team. Price With a round of opening cocktails, two bottles of wine, taxes, and tip this fine dining evening cost $100 per person. We feel that the quality (and quantity) of the food, combined with the ambiance and service, make this a very fair price indeed.More

I felt like I had to make my self known at the door. But they quickly took my order The restaurant is modern and clean. Institutionally clean. White furniture and decor adds to that setting. The south windows provide an impressive, unparalleled view. But you...could get very hot in the sun. You're invited to pull the blinds. It feels good, but very formal. If you've been in the Remai Gallery, you know the feel of the restaurant. Music was gentle classy pop rocks. Bathrooms too, were institutional with grey tile, metal accessories, and top of the line smoke detectors. The day I went, I was informed the overhead hood was out of commission and that they have a different lunch menu. I ordered a Shirley Temple. And they made it with a pomegranate syrup. And it was spectacular! I also ordered a chicken sandwich/potato salad lunch special. The sandwich was one of the top 5 I've ever ate. The potato salad was surprisingly light. My meal with tip and taxes came close to $30! Minimum tip option on the machine was 15%. $30 for an upscale small lunch is a bit more than I like to pay, regardless of the setting. The bartender appeared knowledgeable. There were 6 customers when I was there. Food took 22 minutes to arrive.More

I had the flat iron steak with fingerling potatoes and broccolini and it was all pretty good. If I had one small complaint it would be the potatoes had no seasoning. Service was fast and friendly. I had been here before and the experience was...much better on this occasion.More

A beautiful view of the river, sitting in the sunlight at a quiet table, we enjoyed a delicious brunch. My avocado and egg on toast was an interesting mix of flavours. My husband’s croque madame was absolutely fantastic - yes, he shared a bite with...me. Service was attentive but not overbearing and the meals were beautiful to the eye and delicious. My Americano was smooth without a trace of bitterness. My only complaint was the voice of background music which hit me as more suitable for a shopping mall than a fine restaurant in an art gallery.More

We have been here for breakfast and for dinner. There are some good dishes at breakfast but it can be quite heavy. The taste of the food is hit and miss. There are times we have been pleasantly surprised but never really “wowed”. My kids...love the Mac and cheese ( a consistent dish with a twist -Doritos are the secret I think). The scones are good as well. We have only been there for dinner once and I definitely preferred their dishes at dinner. However the meal was not striking.More

Set in the absolutely stunning Remai Modern gallery in beautiful Saskatoon, this was truly one of the best meals I have had. Our server was extremely elegant and beyond professional… And she can mix cocktails like nobody’s business. John, the GM of the restaurant, is...clearly an incredible leader - and Shift is tremendously lucky to have him at the helm. I would be remiss if I did not mention the chef who lovingly prepared our incredible meal to perfection. Our steak was grilled to perfection and I am salivating thinking about it! You cannot go wrong with anything you choose on this menu… But don’t forget to try one of their famous cocktails! They also do events… And even those are perfect. Next time you find yourself in the Paris of the prairies… Do yourself a favour and try this terrific restaurant.More

Tried their Brunch this past Sunday. The menus items are a bit pricey, but not atrocious. I had the avocado toast and when it first came I thought the portion was way to small for $14, but honestly I was full when done. It was...also delicious, in my opinion. Everyone I was with also enjoyed their food. The atmosphere here is very "modern" which is not my favourite style. It is very open and the table and chairs are not comfortable for longer than about 20 minutes. Large windows with a nice view. The service was reasonable quick and our waitress was friendly. Might try it for a fancy supper someday. Overall I think it was the atmosphere, and slightly pricey menu that will keep me from visiting more regular.More

Facility and atmosphere is great. Food was wonderful. We were there for supper and only 4 other tables were occupied. Asked the waiter how they made their carpaccio, and he could not answer. Asked if he could recommend a dish, he could not. When our...food arrived, he plunked it on the table in front of us and asked if we needed anything else. If you are going to charge premium prices, then your presentation needs to be premium. Good restaurants always point out what they are serving you in an itemized fashion. Staff seems under trained.More
