This is a small local restaurant with fun whimsical decor and a warm waitstaff. Falon was very kind and helpful to us out of towners. We had the Lobster Chowder (excellent), Mussels (delicious broth) and a “Your Fish Is All Wrapped Up!” which is fried Haddock in a wrap with spinach, bacon, and cheese. It was amazing!! I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant if you are visiting the area!

We ordered the lobster poutine and the lobster roll with fries. The lobster poutine is the best we’ve ever had and the lobster roll was full of big pieces of lobster. I really liked how they grill their rolls. Everything had great flavour and the service was fast and friendly.

A picture is worth a thousand words. An award winner-a light buttery roll with the freshest Nova Scotia lobster with a hint of green onion. The french fries are exceptional. The service was friendly and prompt. The gorgeous beaches of Cape Sable Island are just 10 minutes away.

I ordered the fish cakes with lobster on top. It sounded different, and fish cakes and lobster are two of my favorite foods. Both were bland and tasteless. That is my best description. We ate here shortly after the COVID restrictions for restaurants were lifted. Perhaps, they were using what was frozen prior to closing for COVID, I don't know. What I do know, is what good lobster and fish cakes should taste like. I'm from Nova Scotia. If I was from somewhere not familiar with fish cakes or lobster, I would be very disappointed with what I was served. I rate this restaurant as an overpriced tourist trap.

My wife ordered the Causeway Creamed Lobster. It was two pieces of toast with a scoop of creamed lobster on top and very little lobster between the pieces of toast. A small dish of fries came with it for $42.00. I had Fishermen's Delight and it was a good portion and more creamed lobster on my haddock than my wife's meal and was $10 cheaper. Very disappointed with the Creamed Lobster and I advised the waitress of our disappointment.

Ordered the fish cakes, got 4 pieces for $10, (picture only shows 3 as I ate one). Flavour was nothing much and they were more potatoe than fish…should be called potatoe cakes with fish bits. The green tomato chow was tasty. Ordered the Fisherman's Delight - $34 A generous size of 2 pieces of haddock deep fried, which was tasty and not overcooked, topped with a generous portion of creamed lobster, which was overcooked, GALLEY-made onion ring and cheese curds served atop a soft grilled bun. Had never heard of creamed lobster and would not have it again. It saturated the bun to the point of soggy dough. It might have worked if they made the cream thicker like a sauce rather than like soup. The fries looked nicely golden brown…..but they were ‘frozen’ fries and barely cooked inside (Frozen fries for a $34 price tag?). Came with a very small typical slaw. Staff were friendly and service took about 40 minutes once order was placed.

Stopped in during a road trip along the Lighthouse Route Yes, agree, there is a good variety of lobster-related foods here. The prices though were shocking. And we've had seafood in 10 parts of NS so far (Fr Halifax, to Pleasant Bay, to Baddeck, and Digby, and Yarmouth, etc). Husband's lobster chowder bowl ($25) was potato-filled with some gnarly pieces of lobster he could barely chew. It was milk-based, not cream based and quite poorly seasoned. A real disappointment. I can't eat seafood so I had the Kat's Steak Sandwich. It was soaking in gravy. Soaking. 2 people, at lunchtime, ordering a soup + a steak sandwich + 2 diet pepsis and cost over $70 with a lean tip. That's kind of nuts, imo

I dined at Capt Kats with my family on a recommendation from a friend. As a born and raised maritimer who has eaten at dozens of restaurants that serve lobster, I was floored by the prices. My creamed lobster over haddock was a small portion of seafood disgused as a large meal with a (delicious!) homemade hamburger bun and mashed potatos. It was $30. It was cooked well, but extremely overpriced for what I was served. My mom and brother both had $35 lobster rolls, and while they said they were good.. they were not the best they’ve had. At the risk of sounding rude, save your money.

We have enjoyed eating here for quite a few years, however, the last two times food had lost its appeal. We went this week for my husband‘s birthday and the prices have skyrocketed and the quality has plummeted. I always have the fondue which used to be six big juicy lobster claws with butter and cream dipping sauce. This time I had six overcooked, very small claws and the price has increased from $22 to $36! My husband was also extremely expensive and not worth the price. He had I loved your sandwich which is a tradition in this area. The meal for market price lobster dinner was put up to a ridiculous $85! Nothing more needs to be said. We are not Going to be visiting this restaurant again for substandard food and absurd prices.

This is was probably one of the most expensive menus we’ve seen out east for these kind of restaurant (not fine dining). The food is fine, but not worth the price they’re charging now. We stopped by in summer 2022 and it was reasonably price… now their 1 1/4 LB lobster dinner is $85, ouch!

We visited Capt. Kat’s twice on our short trip to the Barrington area of Nova Scotia, simply because the food was so delicious. We recommend the clams, which weren’t at all chewy as most clams are, and the haddock was done to perfection. This is a delightful restaurant!

The food was great, we went in and both of us ordered pan fried haddock, chocolate stout cake and coffee and enjoyed a really tasty fish and delicious dessert. Our waitress was very nice and professional. Towards the end of our meal, there was a change of staff and that is where things took a nose dive. The date was Wednesday Sep 4th around 3 pm. A waitress (long dark hair) walked into the kitchen to start her shift. She was agitated and spoke loud enough for us to hear her whole conversation, dropping the ‘F’ bomb as she complained about her son’s teacher taking his cellphone at school. She went on and on, how students need their cellphones to record bullying because school staff don’t do anything, how the school would have to call her mother if he needs anything…swearing along the way! We were in the banquette area, the furthest from the kitchen, trying to enjoy our lunch. Needless to say, she ruined it for us. We don’t drop over $100 for a lunch often so this was a real treat for us and she ruined it with her loud and obnoxious attitude.

We all enjoyed the food here, and I’d recommend it to any seafood lover. The first time was on Sunday after getting off of the Digby ferry and traveling down to the south shore. We had the lobster roll, and the seafood sampler. Everything was delicious, The lobster roll was piled with lobster meat and came in a mayo type dressing with green onion, spinach as greens. The fried seafood was cooked perfectly, the clams were lightly coated. The scallops were sweet and not chewy. Haddock was light breaded. Awesome meal. We enjoyed it so much we came back and had the lobster stew and boiled lobsters. They were also excellent, tender and sweet. I definitely recommend.

Don't let the hype of this restaurant fool you. They charge $85 for a 1.25 lb whole lobster. If you head a little north you can get a 2 lb for $75. ( if you want lobster get at least a 2 pounder ) The quality here is also suspect. I had the lobster chowder, which contained a few small pieces lof lobster, which tasted old - like weeks old and very chewy. The restaurant has promise if they focus on quality and reasonable prices. IMHO pass on this one.

Had a mug of Captain’s lobster chowder and fishcakes served with green tomato chow. Both were excellent. The chowder was light and creamy with large chunks of sweet lobster. The cakes, sea-salty and delicious.
