Stunning little gem, staff is the Rock and Soul of this authentic soulful restaurant. Amazing freshly baked bread, coffee fresh and the snoek tert was sublime. The staff are the glue behind this really lovely stop. Really worthwhile, beautiful wild gardens at the back, the children wouldn't leave, thumbs up team

It's a rustic little bistro at the entrance of Ceres. And they have roosterkoek. There traditional coffee is served in enamel style mugs. Back to basics in an awesome way. The meal we had was good. But there version of french toast trumped my meal.

Stopped for a Sunday Lunch at the Tolhuis, very pleasant under the trees and. A small restaurant with good service, we had the Beef Pie with vegetables which was excellent. Drinks were nice and chilled and we had time to relax and observe the bird life and wander around this old historic building.

Interesting range of dishes on a humourously presented menu. Unfortunately the service was slow, and they kept having to check back with the kitchen if stock was available.

Dear KatandChrist Thanks so much for taking the time to review us. And thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately our manager on duty wasn't up to scratch when it came to keeping up the stock. The said person is being dealt with as we speak. We do hope you'd pop in again, so you can actually enjoy what we are all... More

Approaching Ceres going up Mitchels Pass and stopped to see what it was like. Nothing fancy but they have a menu with a difference serving everything with Roesterbrood. We both had a salad as the rest of the menu looked too filling. Salad was a mix of salad and fruit, with a strong dressing. Pity they are closed on Mondays... More

Only stopped for coffee, was and walk around. Nice place to have lunch will stop there again its better than stopping in Ceres for lunch en route and not commercial.

Hi Elde Thanks so much for your kind words. I will certainly convey your message to our team at Tolhuis. Yes, Ceres seems quite commercial at first glance, but look closer next time you visit. We also recently opened Capish!, an Italian eatery with hand-made pasta and wood-fired pizzas, in Main Street. Pop in and say hi! Kind regards Reint... More

A beautiful setting but the airbrakes of the trucks going down the pass can get a bit loud. The food is wholesome and tasty. I loved the roosterkoek

Hi Barry Thank you so much for your beautiful review. We truly appreciate it. It is harvest season in our area and we are all very happy for the farmers that this is a very good season. There are more trucks at present as they are carrying the fruit to the markets and elsewhere. Hope to see you soon. Best... More

We enjoyed our breakfast very much. You go there for the Rooster koek. Vegetarian options are very limited and Everything is served in enamel to add to the farm feeling. Service is polite and friendly. Bathroom is bit funny, one toilet and one urinal in one room for everyon, unless there is more facilities somewhere else between the bushes I... More

Our daughter and family from Townsville, Australia joined us for lunch. There was something for everyone, and the service was cheerful and appealingly personal. The sayings around the walls provided interest, and the rural decorations appealed. The food was good and suited our fairly simple tastes.

Whether you're in Ceres for the cherries at Klondyke, the snow on Matroosberg or in the Koue Bokkeveld, the big-sky beauty of the Tankwa Karoo National Park and the Cederberg or a thrill-seeking day with Ceres Zipslide Adventures, make sure you stop over at Die Tolhuis Restaurant, without doubt the coziest restaurant with the best mountain views in the Ceres area. And if, like welcoming owners Reint and & Karien Grobler, you swear by the wise words of Mahatma Ghandi, "there is more to life than increasing its speed," you can prepare yourself for a mouthwatering 'kuier' that will keep you coming back for more.
