Some of the best pub food I’ve ever had.
I had the chicken korma curry and my friends had a few of the starters and shared them.
Everything was so good. It was of top end restaurant quality in my opinion.
The service was good...tooMore
Visited the sailors first time since the pandemic and found that they no longer serve real food instead you now have weird choice names for instance Thai Green which is a fish cake with a prawn cracker on top and some thai relish on top...For £8 what a rip off will not visit againMore
We've just had a delicious lunch at this lovely pub restaurant tucked away in Chaldon Herring. Choose between small and large plates. Between the four of us we chose Monk fish, Halibut, Pork chop and Venison large plates and every dish was very tasty indeed....Nice young people provided the service, they have a good choice of cask ales including Otter and Cerne Abbas.
The menu is not lengthy but imaginative and everything was cooked to perfection.
Flakey fish, pork chop with a little crackling and melt in the mouth venison.
This chef knows just how to cook.
Sadly we were only visiting the area and this was the end of our holiday.
It was a delightful last lunch before going back home but next time we're down in Dorset we'll definitely be back.More
What a find! This restaurant is a cut above the rest. The menu was carefully thought out and offered a choice of freshly cooked main meals.
The whole ambience was lovely - we sat on sofas waiting for our table - the staff were attentive...and extremely accommodating and when the meals arrived they did not disappoint.
We all said we hadn’t had this nice a meal or experience in a restaurant for a long time! It’s a bit off the beaten track but we would definitely return again.- Desserts we’re delicious too.
3 of us had Chicken Supreme in a chestnut mushroom sauce with sage and onion potato pie and asparagus and my husband had pork belly madras. Desserts - Marmalade Bead & Butter Pudding with Clotted cream and Chocokate cheesecake profiteroles -.thank you for a lovely evening!More
We try to visit the Sailor's Return every time we are in the area, and are very happy that it seems to be thriving again - it was certainly full the night we visited most recently. The menu is reduced, as others have noted, and...has gone upmarket since we started eating here. We were all pleased with our choices, but too full after first and main courses to really appreciate the desserts. I had the crab pot for the first time, which was excellent. Service is always very friendly.More
What a superb restaurant/pub!
Food was absolutely delicious - we had the Padron peppers, hot crab pot and chicken croquettes to start and then the cod linguini with mussels and the octopus for mains. All of which we’d 100% recommend 👌
Interior is really tasteful...and well put together yet still feels like a rustic pub. Setting was also great as it’s a little out the way, making it a hidden gem.
Service was friendly and very attentive! Would definitely go again 😁More

Sorry, I've only just seen your question. As far as I can remember, I saw two large dogs in the bar area, but not sure if they would be allowed in the restaurant. There is a garden outside which is also dog friendly. I am sure if you ring the pub they would be only too happy to help, they are very friendly.
