What a Gem of a place. Lovely location. The welcome was warm and pleasant. The home made Scotch Eggs were fabulous and Home cooked ham was some of the best I have ever tasted. Proper pub grub will be back with friends Sunday.

This pub is now in the hands of a young couple and has retained most of its best qualities - open fires, interesting photos and good beers.

Bishopsbourne is a delightful place with ancient church as is mainly bypassed by the A2 and the horrors of modernity. It was the home of authors such as Joseph Conrad and Jocelyn Brooke. The Mermaid Inn is an antidote to the gastropub, a genuine village...More

Absolutely nothing wrong with the welcome (friendly) nor the food (admittedly an unchallenging cheese sandwich but made with mature cheddar and red onion). Interesting photos on the wall relating to the area's wartime past. Unpretentious. A real pub.

On holiday and selected a walk from our walking book around Bishopsbourne (which is delightful), the book suggested this pub at the end. I popped in before we started the walk to ask if I could use the facilities..was told no by the frosty landlady,...More

Attractive setting in a very picturesque village. Pleasant traditional interior and cosy floral garden. Not a massive menu but something for most appetite sizes. Pleasant staff especially the young Polish girl who was new to the job. Food well-presented and tasty when it came. Bit...More
