I was really excited to be eating at The Lodge as I had heard good things about the food and on a previous visit to Norfolk had been unable to book a table.
The food is great, there is no doubt about it. Lots of different options to suit most tastes. The orzo risotto was amazing, as was the salmon. Unfortunately I didn’t get to try the desserts, which was one of the reasons I had come to the restaurant. Despite being seated promptly and then having my drinks and food order taken within a reasonable amount of time, the service stopped there. I was never asked how my meal was, in fact my lates were simply cleared without conversation. I would have ordered more drinks but was only asked at the beginning of my meal and I didn’t need another till half way through my main meal. I eventually asked if there was a dessert menu, there was but then having received one, no one came back to ask us what we wanted to order. Due to social distancing I did not want to walk around the restaurant looking for service. I did stand up at one point but was not noticed. However, the tables around us were served really well and so it seemed very personal that our waitress never came back to our table. We eventually gave up waiting and when a different waitress asked us if we were waiting to order, I explained that we just wanted the bill. I think the location of our table was one issue but I also have been left wondering what I did wrong to receive the service my daughter and myself received.

Thank you for your review following your recent lunch with us.
I was actually aware of your grievances before you wrote this review as you had already called my Shift manager from our car park upset. So i was able to look into your complaint in more detail including looking at our CCTV. As you have written you were promptly sat, drinks order taken and then food order taken. Whilst with your mains I can also see a member of staff coming to your table, they have assured me this was to table check you. The dessert menu was promptly given to you when cleared and then 10 minutes passed before I can only assume you asked for the bar. Whilst I am very sorry that you could not indulge in one of our desserts, I find the fact that you think we would ignore you because you had done something wrong actually ridiculous. A member of staff passed your table a number of times to serve others and at any point you could have asked for help, we were busy and are not perfect, but we would have been more than happy to come over.
I note that you don't mention the tables that commented to you personally about your actions and the way you were shouting with your daughter about service rather than asking for help.
This is a difficult time for everyone at the moment and we are trying our hardest as a company to serve customers in a safe and professional manor. I am sorry that even after calling us to complain and us apologising that you still felt the need to write this review.

As this title suggests we experienced a peculiar dining event. As a group of four we were served pretty quickly with drinks and nice and promptly received and thoroughly enjoyed our main course, the braised beef was fantastic. Then it all went a bit rubbish. Nobody asked if we would like to see the dessert menu so after a while I went over to the bar and asked for these, which were brought to the table. We then sat around waiting for an order to be taken but it just never happened. There seemed plenty of staff and it wasn't particularly busy but the table service just dried up. I'd have had another drink with my main course if the enquiry had been made too. So ultimately we just grabbed the coats and paid at the bar and went down the road for a dessert at a nearby hotel. It was surprising to see the staff at the Lodge Inn seemed to have time to attend to Facebook while we were visiting but service to us fell away. Maybe just didn't quite have the right team on duty to cover everything adequately (we didn't make a big deal of the waiter dropping a knife on one of us while collecting the plates) and our experience seems to conflict with so many other reviews I can only imagine we just reserved a table on the wrong night.

Thank you for your review.
I am so sorry to read that after starting off well we failed during your whole dining experience. As you mention this isn't something that happens regularly and I will be looking into this more thoroughly to make sure it doesn't happen again.
We have a great team at The Lodge and normally this is reflected in the service. I can only apologise that they didn't show on your night in question. I do hope the member of staff that accidently dropped a knife on you when clearing apologised.
I honestly hope that you come back again so that we can show you our normal standards in service and I am confident you won't leave disappointed again.
Kind Regards
Brittany

Friendly, well trained staff who are eager to assist. Had a couple of lovely meals here, both in the restaurant.
The first was a Friday evening where we found the bar full of yuppie's and their dogs as it was happy hour. Really is a time to avoid as they are all having shouted conversations with each other whilst sitting on the dining tables. They all seem to have a couple of dogs that are also barking. Luckily they are all gone by about 8.00 - 8.30.
The restaurant is a cosy place looked after by one member of staff who is very attentive.
Many thanks for the delicious meals and service.

We dined on Sunday and on first look, the place looked lovely, and me and my partner mentioned we should come and stay in the summer. Food was also lovely! However service was not. Our roast came in no time, however, after our roast plates were cleared, it took 30 minutes to get a dessert menu, 10 minutes before our order was taken, and 20 minutes for the desserts to come out, totalling an hour between courses. We also had to ask 2 people for a chase up on our drinks after our mains, which took 20 minutes to come. I also asked the waiter (not sure on a name but he wore glasses) to recommend which roast, pork or beef, in which he answered with ‘it depends if you like pork or beef’.. well duh? That’s why I asked? Also a smile from him would not have gone a miss. Again food was lovely, but would not recommend. Shame, as the place was lovely, but service let it down.

Thank you for your review following your meal with us.
I am pleased to read that you enjoyed your meal, but was sorry to hear about the slow service you received. This is not something that regularly happens here as you can see from previous reviews. We have looked into your comments, but when I asked the team that were on that day it was hard to investigate as there had been no mention of any of this to anyone not even the shift manager that was on duty that day.
We can only apologise from the length you feel you waited between having your plates cleared and receiving a dessert menu. I must ask though did you not see another member of staff in that 30 minutes that you could have asked for the dessert menu? You haven’t mentioned how long it took for you to be seated, to receive drinks, to order and to receive your mains. You have only highlighted the negative points of the service, so therefore haven’t given what I believe is an honest account of your dining experience.
As for the member of staff I can only assume he was possibly a bit confused why you asked him what he would order from 2 extremely similar dishes where the only difference is the meat.
You review score seems to be just scoring the service not the whole experience twice within your review you stated twice food was lovely that along with the compliments of the building itself deserves more than the 2/5 you gave us.
Thank you again for your review and I do hope that you will give us the second chance to show you we do normally get it all right.
Kind Regards
Ashleigh

Dined as a group of 8, returning after previous meals out here. Very disappointed this time with standard of food. Most meals had an issue. £15.50 special fishcakes had barely any fish and were mostly potato, the first child’s fish and chips meal we got was mainly batter and we had to asked for a replacement, and the gravadlax was not cured salmon but instead a piece of grilled salmon. The pate was served with burnt toast and we also had to ask for this to be replaced. The two puddings we did have were however well received. Most of the staff were pleasant, even the very pleasant waitress who spilt larger all over our table by accident
Despite our concerns the manager didn’t come over to discuss the issues even after we requested that they were passed on to her.. Only after we forced the issue did we get a reluctant apology which felt very unsatisfactory. Unlike other restaurants in the area I’m sad to say that we won’t be returning to the lodge.

Thank you for your review following your recent meal with us.
Sometimes as a company you have to hold up your hands and say mistakes were made that simply shouldn't have and are not the norm. The issues with your food should not have happened and for this I can only apologise. I am pleased that we managed to replace all dishes that you found unsatisfactory.
Your comments regarding my assistant manager is where our stories become slightly muddled. It was in fact her that dealt with all of your food issues and arranged with you at the table alternatives, so I am unsure who else you wanted it passed on to and an apology from as she was the senior person working that evening. We did however have comments from other staff members and guests who took offence to 4 of you speaking to her at reception and calling her a "rubbish manager" over and over again. This is a difficult time for everyone at the moment and we are working our hardest to ensure everyone has a safe and pleasant experience. We are most certainly not here to have some go against the social distancing rules and be little our staff, whether a waiter or a manager.
Thank you again for your review.

We had read excellent reviews on the Lodge and were therefore expecting something special
There was a good car park and the layout of the restaurant was quite impressive with good spacing between tables and we were looking forward to a great meal
The menu came promptly and our orders fairly swiftly later. So far so good. However my ribs were a bit dry and flavourless and my wife had an "ordinary" cheese tart with a poor salad consisting of a few lettuce leaves. Needless to say we were both disappointed.
No one came during the meal to check if everything was ok and by the time we saw a waitress it was too late to complain
Based on other reviews they can obviously do better it is just a shame we missed out

Thank you for your review.
I am very sorry to hear that you were left disappointed with your food. As you can see from our many reviews this isn't the norm for us even though you suggest it is. A table check should have happened at which point we could have changed your dishes and for this I can only apologise profusely.
I do hope that you will try us again so that we can show you the normal standard we offer.
Thank you again.

We booked the lodge as online it looked a family friendly restaurant and looked ideal for us to take our young son. We were greeted at the bar by a lady who said ‘wait there whilst I print off my sheet’ (not the warmest of welcomes) we were then sat in the restaurant which was a different room from any other dinners and sat in the very far corner. I firmly believe this was because we had a young child with us and they didn’t want him to potentially bother anyone. The restaurant was empty for the first hour we were there and also for the first hour there was no music or anything which created 0 atmosphere. The food was nice in parts although the risotto was over cooked. The deserts however were much better and very nice. The first server we had wore no mask and seemed like he couldn’t really be bothered with us and got the drinks order wrong. For the second half of the meal we had a young woman serve us who was polite and attentive, we only left the tip for her so my hope is she got it all! When we left the restaurant more dinners had been seated in the room however again were obviously sat away from them deliberately. We are visitors to the area but based on this experience we wouldn’t return here as we were made to feel excluded as a family.

Thank you for your review, I can assure you we don't discriminate against people with or without children.
The restaurant would most certainly not be the best place to sit you if we were concerned about you disturbing others as it is a lot smaller and quieter generally than the main bar area, I'm sorry you were left with that impression but its totally false,
I'm delighted you enjoyed your desserts so much, we are very lucky to have an amazing pastry chef who is doing a tremendous job at a very challenging time.
I would be amazed if you didn't see any other families or children during your time with us, we are family friendly and in the midst of the Summer holidays we have families with children of all ages dining all day everyday.
Nonetheless we shall ensure that the team see your feedback.
Kind regards and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday.

As we were staying in the Old Lighthouse in Hunstanton, we made The Lodge Hotel our “local” for the fortnight, and what a great decision we made. The staff, without exception, were SO friendly and made us feel relaxed and welcome. We had lunch on a couple of days and took friends with us for a traditional Sunday roast, which was excellent. Every time we went in for coffee etc, we were greeted warmly and nothing was too much trouble. The greatest advantage for us is that they are extremely dog friendly, with even the bar restaurant having a designated area for pooches. We would thoroughly recommend this lovely Inn, with a special thanks to Josh, Brittany and Jackie and her tea.

Never stayed at the Lodge before but we had a really nice stay. The garden shed has a small quite basic bedroom which to be truthful is a bit tired BUT the bathroom is excellent.
We ate in the bar area as we had Ruby our lurcher with us. It was comfortable & warm & friendly & the food on the whole was very good (& a bread & butter pudding with custard to die for)! Breakfast very good indeed. Staff were mostly excellent... efficient & friendly with only one exception.
I left a Thermos flask in the room by accident & it was returned by post the very next day! Fantastic service Thankyou!
We’ve booked again for next year as we enjoyed it all so much & the location is perfect especially with a dog. 5 mins down a lane to the vast beach , passing the beach cafe which serves truly excellent tea, cakes & also homemade dog biscuits!

We visited this restaurant a few weeks ago when staying in the area. This is a very tastefully decorated restaurant, with the tables well spaced, and local works of art exhibited on the walls which are for sale.
It was only 7pm but already almost all of the daily specials had sold out. We ordered a sharing bread board as a starter and it came with six hefty slices of bread, far too much for two people, perhaps the waiter could have informed us. We had to wait a long time for our mains to arrive. My husband had a tasty Italian chicken dish. I had pan fried cod with crab risotto which was delicious but not quite hot enough, however I didn't want to risk having something so delicate reheated. There was an interesting selection of desserts and the ones we chose were good.
We probably would eat here again if we were in the area.

The restaurant is part of the hotel and has a definite "upmarket" feel to it. We were greeted warmly and escorted to a table for two. The menu is varied and imaginative. The food was well-cooked and presented, in ample portions. So why not 5 stars? With the exception of the young woman who showed us to our table, the rest of the staff seemed rather inexperienced and didn't "engage" with guests. Food arrived, was placed on the table and the staff then departed without a word. We had to ask for two side plates with our starter of bread and dips (hummus, olive oil etc), and they took a fair while to appear, with the waiter seeming to find things to do behind the bar instead. My paella was good (but fresh prawns instead of frozen would have been better) and my partners pork 'sirloin' was a serious carnivores delight. One example of one staff members rather rudimentary customer service skills was shown on the next table. A young woman asked for some mayo to accompany her substantial burger. The waiter literally plonked a squeezy bottle of Helmans on the table and walked away. For a restaurant charging £35-£50 a head, the staff need to sharpen up their game a little.

Thank you for your review following your recent meal with us. I have to say after seeing the 4/5 stars I was surprised to open the review and receive a lot of negatives.
Firstly, I am delighted that you enjoyed your food and I will be sure to pass on your kind comments the chef. I am pleased to inform you that the king prawns in the paella are indeed fresh and not frozen.
I was surprised to hear of your comments regarding the staff. We have two TripAdvisor pages and rarely do we receive negatives regarding the team, the main bulk which have worked for us for a while. I can simply put it down to us being busy, which is not an excuse but can be the only reason that they were not as engaging as normal. I can only apologise for this and for the delay in receiving items.
By reading one of your examples I can assume that you ate in the bar as this is the only area we serve sauces in bottles and not dishes. It hasn't been brought up to us before but we will certainly look into better alternatives.
I do hope that you will visit us again and I thank you for your feedback.
Many thanks

We were on the North Norfolk coast overnight as a first escape post-lockdown. We popped into the Lodge Inn hoping that they might have a table available for Sunday lunch and were delighted that they did. The service was exceptional and the food fantastic. Highly, highly recommended - we'd go back in a heartbeat and would happily stay in the Old Lodge.

came for lunch , and had amazing duck croquet to start from their specials which is new a keeps you coming back more regularly . For mains we had the English lamb rump and the cod risotto ,both were outstanding dishes and the chefs should be very proud of their skills and flavour combinations . TOP quality restaurant food which unfortunately was not matched by the table service .
There is so much wrong here , from waiting staff not listen to what you have ordered , asking twice for the same items , plates just left at the table .
Waited 15minutes to see if anyone would come and ask if would like a sweet , which we would ,but nobody came so I went to the bar and settled up , finished our drinks and the table was never cleared . Staff always went back to the kitchen empty handed .
A smile goes a long way , and some upselling would not go a miss !! They are new from last year and lacked training and did not look as if they were enjoying working there which is a shame as they let the chefs down ,would give them 6 stars if I could.

We were a family party of 15 people including a young baby. We bought drinks at the bar and they were added to the tab for the whole meal. There was a lovely atmosphere at The Lodge, nice and warm with lovely Christmas decorations throughout the whole area. It was very busy but the service was excellent. We had ordered a few days in advance because there were so many of us and we all got what we had ordered. The food was very enjoyable and would recommend the venue to friends,

We stayed at The Lodge the first weekend it reopened after lockdown, and it was just as fabulous as our previous visit. We opted for the dinner, bed and breakfast package for the weekend so we didn't have to book elsewhere. It's a good value option as you can have three courses and coffee off the main menu in the bar and restaurant. It's a lovely place to stay. Good rooms. Great food. Fabulous staff. Close to the beach. We'll definitely be going back again
