This was the best place we have been in regards to feeling covid safe. A bit too hot to sit outside but looked lovely with the church as a backdrop & plenty of outside tables. Ordered beer battered fish & my father had scampi. Unsure why I got chunky chips & my father's were normal sized but both meals were excellent & to get two meals for under £12 with the eat out to help out scheme was the icing on the cake.

Thankyou for your review, we are extremely lucky to have such a beautiful church beside us. We feel it's only right that the fish and chips come with a 'proper' handcut chunky chip! Kind regards Vikki

Wow - so often we visit a pub for lunch and are disappointed. Not today! Had no expectations other than it was open for lunch past 2.30pm which is rare in the area. The calves liver, slow braised beef, and chicken and bacon pie were just fabulous (and we are picky eaters). Accompanied by fluffy mash, beautifully cooked broccoli and kale, with accompanying gravy and jus - seriously we could have licked the plates clean. Sister had the marmalade bread and butter pudding and also claimed it a success. Wonderful waitress who was wonderfully warm, kind and friendly. WHAT A GEM! Whoever is in the kitchen CAN SERIOUSLY COOK. We are going back to try the Sunday Roadt. I work in the service industry myself, so I know you cannot please everybody, so take the limited negative reviews with a pinch of salt - this place is ACE.

Booked for a Valentines meal as had been gifted vouchers by daughters for Christmas. We have been many times before & always enjoyed everything about this lovely pub, this was no exception, the staff are so friendly, attentive & helpful, food was extremely good, I chose slow braised beef with dumpling & veg & mash with the most amazing chocolate brownie with scrummy hot chocolate sauce for dessert. We feel very lucky to only live about 8 or 9 miles away from this lovely establishment. Congratulations to all at The Fox x

Thought we would give The Fox a look on the 1st day of opening. Found customer service excellent, however were both a little disappointed with the quality of the food we had. The steak my wife had ordered lacked flavour and was found to be chewy. It would have been nice to have homemade coleslaw with the burger. Sticky toffee desert was a little dry, lack of sauce and ice cream. Considering this was the first night open I thought they would hae gone the extra mile.

So pleased to read your comment regarding excellent customer service. As you may appreciate in order to implement our additional safety measures our front of house staff costs have risen considerably despite being able to serve less people, we feel we have indeed pulled out all stops to reassure our customers. The steak comment is disappointing and the chef was not made aware of this on the evening, we would have been more than happy to do you another, we dont 'make' steak and on rare occasion even if well rested a steak can be less than perfect, we use a quality family butcher and luckily this is not something that happens frequently. Our coleslaw is homemade and served alongside our homemade burger so i can only assume this was missed from your plate. apologies! It's very tough times for this industry and a really worrying time for all staff and owners regarding the future so i would respectfully urge you to always make your full comments known whilst on site allowing us to rectify any issues so you will hapefully leave with a positive opinion of us than sharing a negative opinion without giving us a chance. Its hard to please everybody but we certainly do try very hard to do so, Kind regards Vikki

We were staying nearby and booked The Fox at Lyng at the end of August for 4 adults and 4 children. From the moment we arrived we felt safe and calm. The staff were extremely professional and also very friendly. The food was great including the children’s meals which were healthy and wide-ranging. I should mention the pea pasta in particular which my children keep requesting at home. This was our first meal out as families since coming out of lockdown so thank you for the great service.

A fantastic evening from start to finish Booked a table for three and was very nice to see the pub busy even after the eat out scheme has finished. Arrived and following the one way system we where welcomed in and had our temperatures taken before being shown to our seats Drinks order was taken and they arrived promptly which is always a gold star Food order taken and arrived in about 15 minutes which was amazing given there where a fair number in. Brisket burger was sensational off the specials board and my two friends lasagne looked sensational We forced ourselves to check out the deserts and we caved in, a biscoff cheesecake, chocolate sundae and chocolate brownie all topped it off perfectly. Every effort has gone into making sure both staff and customers are safe throughout and is the safest I’ve felt in the many pubs I’ve been two since July. Fantastic effort from everyone and well worth a visit!

It had been a while since we had visited the Fox, but we decided to walk a bit further today than usual and decided to stop for a light lunch. Felt very safe from a covid perspective, temperature taken, hand sanitiser on entry, masks available to purchase (hubby did not have his with him) and tables nicely spaced out. I had a lovely big bowl of soup with warm baguette/butter and hubby had the BLT which came with chips and salad. All very tasty and up to the expected high standard of the Fox (and their sister pub the Tuddenham Lodge), we plan to return soon!

Probably best to start by saying that there is nothing wrong with The Fox, it’s just that it wasn't quite for us. We had driven past The Fox a few times and thought (from the outside) that it would be a good place to have our wedding anniversary meal. The first surprise was that we were given a table outside of the restaurant. This was no great shakes as it is a common occurrence and in a lot of cases the "bar" tables are actually better than the restaurant. In this instance that was not to be the case as we were near one of the entrance doors and on the route between the restaurant and the toilets. The other surprise was that the ambience was pretty much cafeteria style with very little "olde world" charm as the exterior would suggest. It became obvious why we were not in the restaurant as there was a large group in there and it was pretty noisy. So full marks to the guys at The Fox for not putting us in there. The food on the other hand was good. For starters I had the home-made humus and my wife had the olives. For mains we both had a steak - which was cooked just as we like it (medium rare). Service was slow but acceptable and I did have to go to the bar to get the bill. The cost of the meal was at the top end of ok and was influenced by the expensive bottle of wine - it wasn’t a special bottle of wine, it was just about £10 more than you would expect to pay elsewhere. Would we go back? Probably not as there are other places which suit us better. Is it bad? Definitely NOT, The Fox (in my opinion) would be great for family get togethers and/or informal dining.

Thankyou so much for your review. The positives - you enjoyed the food. The negatives - the ambience - we have 3 areas for dining, the restaurant, the new bar (where you were) and the 'old bar' all 3 areas offer a different feel and if we could possibly convince you to give us another try may i suggest you ask to be seated in the 'old bar' this is very quaint, low beams and large inglenook fireplace ( soon to be fitted with a super log burner which will heat things up a little. Apologies for the slow service - shortages on staffing levels and some newbies too! please bear with us, training is underway. I would be curious to know which wine you had but at a guess i would think the marlbourough Sauv which has had a huge increase in price, this was a house wine until a few months ago but our wholesalers had to increase the price remarkedly due to the shortage of marlboroough Sauv following 2 poor grape harvests over covid resulting in a shortage, I am surprised that even the supermarkets will not have had to increase significantly on this particular wine as yet. We do offer a chilean Sauv still at a house wine price. I thankyou for taking the time and i would urge you to visit once more before writing us off, we will address the heating and raise the thermostat by a degree or two now that the weather is truly 'winterish!' Kind regards Vikki

decided to treat ourselves to lunch before I go back to work. we went to The Fox at Lyng because we know like its sister pub The Lodge, Tuddenham, we would get a first class meal. We were not disappointed at all. Greeted with a lovely welcome to this very friendly, clean and beautiful country pub/restaurant. Soon served even though busy and with our drinks had to make difficult choice what to eat, so much to choose from. Every taste covered. I did have the lovely fresh battered cod as I am rubbish at batters. But my husband went for slow cooked braised beef with winter greens and mash. The jus was amazing. I tested it with one of my awesome chunky chips that I ate too many of. He said his meal was beautiful, beef fell apart so tender and he said flavoursome. There was plenty of meat, rightly balanced with veg and mash. Oh I wish I could cook jus/gravy/sauces like that. My husband ate a lot more than I though he would. hats off to excellent meals, served piping hot, and so tasty. Served with a smile. Prices really good for quality, quantity and presentation. Their staff both front and rear of house need commending. Thank you so much

New to the area so came to try the Sunday roast. First impressions were it’s more like a cafe than a pub/restaurant. The area we were sat in was all benches and different coloured wooden furniture, not great. It took 45 minutes for the food to arrive. The roast looked ok. Beef was over cooked. There was a real lack of veg with it though. It is brought separately to serve yourself. I’m not sure if they forgot one portion or that was supposed to do two people, but I sacrificed mine so the other person got to eat. Overall, the wait was too long and the veg portion tiny. Wouldn’t return.

Hi Jember075 Thankyou for reviewing us, we have 3 areas for dining by your description you were seated in an area we call the den which is joining the main bar and has had an injection of colour after a drab 18 months! If this area was not to your liking we also have our restaurant and 'old bar' both without any bright 'cafe' colours! With our Roast dinners we serve roasted potatoes, mash potato, roasted carrots and parsnips, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese with a side serving of green vegetables usually consisting of broccoli and leek alongside your choice of meat or nut roast and all with a stuffing ball and Yorkie. With a selection of at least 7 vegetables we feel our portions are far from small but please do feel free to ask for more should you change your mind and visit again. Kind regards Vikki

Great lunch in the beer garden. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was all freshly cooked and they even grilled our fish instead of having it battered and fried upon request. We will visit again when we come to Norfolk.

We went for dinner this evening as a couple. We booked in advance. The service was slow and no one checked our meal was ok before it was delivered and the main was served before the starters were cleared. It was cold inside and all the customers except 2 were wearing their coats. I do appreciate the rising cost in energy but a little heat would have gone a long way. The wine we had, Sauvignon, wasn’t great. The food was ok but over priced. I had a fire cracker salmon that had one slice of chilli and no other heat to it. The Asian slaw had no dressing on and was in fact the slighted dried from the fridge chopped cabbage and carrot. One starter was lovely mozzarella, one was not olives - there was a slice on bread plonked in the plate, not warmed or toasted and a bowl of olives swimming in oil. The mozzarella special was lovely however. We had heard good things but felt it was over priced for below average service and food and especially as the restaurant was cold. We chose to go home via Tesco to purchase some dessert as we were genuinely to cold to stay and have pudding.

I am so sorry you left feeling dissapointed, in the current tough trading conditions, thats the very last thing we would want, so please do accept our sincere apologies. Unfortunately, as with many hospitality business's we find ourselves operating with a very limited team however, we do usually manage to offer great customer service and fabulous food as you will have no doubt seen from our other reviews. Overpriced unfortunately is not the case, in actual fact we have refrained from increasing our prices in line with our own rising food costs and feel our dishes still offer great value, unfortunately we will never be able to compete with the large chains and their super purchasing powers. I'm sorry you didn't feel the heat from the firecracker salmon, it has always lived up to its name and is a very popular dish, I will chat to the kitchen re your comments so that we ensure every dish is as good as the last. The bread is a sourdough and by nature a heavy bread, with exception of warming (yes it should have been! apologies again) i'm not sure how else apart from 'plonked on the plate' besides your pot of marinated olives this could be served? open to suggestion here. The heating is on a thermostat set to 21 degrees, we will notch it up a bit! Thank you for your review, it is so important to hear feedback, however it's even more beneficial if you let us know during your visit so we can address any issues there and then and hopefully rectify a situation, such as the heating or bring you some additional fiery sauce for the salmon. Kindest regards Vikki

We came here having seen the good reviews and the management pictures of the food and the menu looked varied and appetising. However we left disappointed. The food wasn't great and looked nothing like the management photos. One of us had the 'new winter dish' duck with dauphinoise potatoes. The duck was cooked well but the dauphinoise came in a solid lump and were stodgy. On the plate it looked like a strip of pork belly. The chicken and bacon carbonara just didn't taste great. The chicken was chewy and yet again it wasn't light and creamy but heavy and stodgy. As I say it wasn't bad and the staff were welcoming and friendly, but the food I serve at home is better so I felt it wasn't worth the money. I just wish I had taken photos as the plates of food served didn't look like the management photos. Nice attractive pub but I wouldn't eat there again. Maybe it was just an off night for the chef.

Thats disappointing for us both, it's always vital you tell us any issues whilst with us so we can correct them for you as we hate for customers to leave disappointed with the first comments we hear being those posted on Review sites. The two dishes you mention are two popular dishes, the dauphs are layered potatoes and pressed to hold the shape on the plate, sorry this was not to your satisfaction, perhaps on another occasion we could 'win' you over should you give us another chance.

I visited from Liverpool a few weeks ago to go for a family meal, the atmosphere was lovely, the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. I chose the vegan shepherds pie and I can hands down say it is one of the best meals I have ever tasted. If I lived nearby I would be there every week ordering the same meal! For pudding, I had apple bakewell, something I'd never had before, but would again have every week. The meals were cooked to perfection and my family of ten where really happy with their meals. Thank you for having us and I hope to be back very soon!
