It was a really nice day for our lunch time meal on the Anar Persian restaurant patio. Also, this was our first time out at a restaurant for a sit down meal since the second week of March.
Our party of 4 arrived around 12:45 on this sunny Tuesday and the restaurant was empty except for us. We sat at 2 separate tables to comply with social distancing rule.
My spouse and I ordered the following:
• Loghmeh Kabob ($17) – 2 skewers of minced beef and lamb kebabs served with a 1/2 grilled tomato, plain and saffron infused basmati rice, green salad with a garlic mayo dressing and onion salad.
• Joojeh Kabob ($19) – 1 skewer saffron marinated chicken served with a 1/2 grilled tomato, plain and saffron infused basmati rice, green salad with a garlic mayo dressing and onion salad.
Ratings breakdown
• Food quality and taste – The kebabs were moist and tasty.
The basmati rice was fluffy with a mix of white and saffron infused rice. Basic green salad with a nice dressing. 4+ out of 5 rating.
• Price vis–à –vis portion size – good value especially for the minced beef and lamb kebob entree.
• Service – friendly server (owner?) with good service. Food arrived in a timely manner.
Overall, a very satisfying meal. I would rate the food at 4+ out of 5 – very good.
Notes & Tips
• Be sure to try the sumac spice that is presented in a shaker. Sprinkle on your kabob. Ground sumac has a slight lemony flavor.
• There were a few takeout orders during the time we were there.
• Small restaurant with inside seating for 20 plus customers. Outside patio in front with seating for about 12-14 persons including 1 table for 6.
• 2 washrooms – one with wider access for a wheelchair.
• Credit cards accepted
• Check restaurant website for additional information
• Anar Persian Cuisine is located next to the Buck and Ear Pub in Steveston. In June 2019, I gave the restaurant a 3.25 rating because there were no kabobs due to a licensing issue with respect to an open flame grill / oven.
• Limited free street parking out front. There are street parking spots available throughout Steveston; free but with time limits. There is a pay parking lot next to the restaurant. There are maybe 2 or 3 free parking lots within 3 or 4 blocks. Also parking at the community centre.
• Lots of restaurant options in Steveston including seafood, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Mexican and brew pubs.

The restaurant is opposite the Save on Foods in Steveston village. Restaurant is quite small but has a nice ambiance. Food is quite excellent, be sure to try the split pea stew with lamb and eggplant.
Kebabs are excellent too, really liked their rice too. Service is friendly and extremely attentive. Their meat is halal but they serve beer and wine as well.
Really enjoyed my experience here and would have no problem returning.

As first-time guests to Anar we were absolutely delighted to experience
the delicacies and heaven-scent aroma of Persian Cuisine.
From the Cultural decor to the Friendly Staff we thoroughly enjoyed every bite
that lingered on our palate.

Two friends and I had a wonderful lunch at Anar Restaurant in Steveston. It was a dreary day outside, but bright and cheerful inside the restaurant. From the moment we arrived the owner, Tila, made us feel comfortable and welcome, serving us Persian tea and stuffed dates while we decided what to order. Tila made suggestions on an appetizer platter to start (the Umami Platter) and a couple of entrees to share, including a delicious lamb, eggplant and split pea dish (Ghaymeh Bademjoon). We finished with Faloodeh topped with Persian ice cream. Every bite was delicious, and Tila was a wonderful hostess. We will definitely be back.

I had dinner with some friends here last night.
We had a vegetarian platter (for two) and one of the mixed kabab plates, I think the Vaziri. everything was delicious, unique and flavorful. The vegetarian platter dishes were very nice, good portion size and variety.
We also had the apple crisp with a womderful Persian ice cream.
I would highly recommend this restaurant, nice atmosphere, friendly servers.

I ordered take out from this restaurant. One of the dishes I ordered was Chicken curry which showed nice curried chicken on top of rice. However, when I received the chicken curry, there was hardly any curry on the chicken. and there were tiny bits of bland chicken inside the rice. I was very disappointed.
I phoned the owner who told me it was a chicken byriani. The menu said chicken Curry not chicken byriani. Apparently, the owner does not know the difference. I asked him why my dish did not resemble the dish of Chicken Curry displayed in the menu. He was abusive and arrogant and said the dish did not have to look like the picture in the menu. In other words, he is doing false advertising. He did not apologize but used foul language.
If I were you, I would be careful when ordering food from this restaurant.

Pleasantly surprised at the transformation of the restaurant. I had visited the same name restaurant in a mall in Continental centre in Richmond and was let down however this place is a total transformation. A cozy place in the heart of Steveston village in Richmond the food was impressively flavorful and the kebabs, moist tender and tasty. Their Gormeh Sabzi was also very good. This place is here to stay.

As a new experience , my boyfriend & I tried Anar in Steveston! It is housed in a heritage building! The decor is eclectic! They have a fabulous lunch menu for $17 but you can also order from the main menu !
I had the Joojeh & was not disappointed! My boyfriend had the Ghaymeh Bademjoon & loved every bite! We look forward to returning in the very near future!

Have eaten here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times the experience was great. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the food was delicious and beautifully presented and the portions are generous. One word of advice - don't turn up for dinner between 6-7.30pm without a reservation since this place is quite small and very busy. Highly recommended.

We love to dine at Anar. It is always really pleasant to enjoy good Persian food in Steveston. I like their kebbas and roasted lamb. Good size portions and excellent plate presentation. We were pleasantly surprised with a wonderful apple crisp topped with pistachio ice cream for dessert. It was absolutely delicious.

This friendly, homey restaurant in Steveston just a block off the boardwalk features Persian cuisine unique in this area. The Baghali Polo Bar Gosht or Lamb Shank was wonderfully tender and sauce was very tasty. The Loghmeh Kabob or Mixed Beef-lamb skeweres were perfection itself. The decor is understated, but very welcoming. The wait staff was attentive and offered great service with a ready smile. The vibe was more a visit to the home of a Persian friend and sharing a meal rather than eating out at a restaurant. Definitely will be back for more soon.

We went to Steveston for dinner with it's nice water view and sunset ambiance on mind. Daughters preferred Persian with vegan options. Finally found this restaurant online.
Located in a small heritage building, Anar is not close to the water & only has street view.
Service was ok.
Food wise - except for the kebab, all the other ones seemed watery, sour and bland, appearance not appealing either. Appetizers were bland and overpriced, especially the falafels. We had better Persian food experience elsewhere before.
By the time we finished dinner and walked back to the water, it was almost too late to enjoy the sunset and surrounding.
A bit disappointed.

Anar serves Mediterranean and Persian cuisine. Lovely place as it was an old courthouse so ambiance is nice. Food is delicious and portions are generous. I am not vegetarian but I found all the vegetarian dishes very tasty.

I have not had a lot of exposure to Persian cuisine . I was a bit underwhelmed . The room felt crowded which is of some concern these days . Very noisy . Service was good . I tried the slow cooked chicken at the suggestion of the waitress . While I don’t have any specific criticisms I just did not enjoy it all that much . Price was fine .
So while I really don’t have complaints I probably would not come back .

Lovely food the food is cooked perfectly and the servers are very friendly the restaurant is clean and decor lovely also has a nice outdoor patio. Would definitely come back here due to the unique and tasty food and comfy atmosphere. I recommend the joojeh kabob and the Ghaymeh Bademjoon they are amazing!
