Ichigo Ichie is located in a strip mall complex on the southeast corner of No. 5 Road and Steveston Highway. We arrived around 11:45 on a Thursday and the restaurant was empty except for us. By 12:30 there were 11 people. We ordered the following:...• Tako wasabi ($4.45) - marinated chopped raw octopus pieces served with a quick pickle and nori sheets. Tasty dish. Restaurant also serves takoyaki - deep fried octopus balls. We decided on trying the new dish instead because I have never seen a similar dish at other restaurants. • Chicken karaage (5 pieces for $5.95) - served with mayonnaise. The chicken pieces were lightly floured resulting in crispy & moist pieces. • Mayu ramen ($11.95) - bean sprouts, green vegetable, kelp, deep fried garlic, cha su and 1/2 egg served in a slightly spicy pork broth. I’m not a ramen expert but the broth was flavourful and had a slightly spiciness in the background. • Shoyu ramen ($10.95) - cha su, green onion, ½ soft boiled egg, Naruto maki (fishcake), spinach and shiitake mushroom served in soy sauce infused broth. My spouse enjoyed the ramen. With taxes, the meal came to $34.97 before the tip. Ratings Breakdown • Quality and taste - good • Portion size vis-à-vis price – Pricing is competitive and portion size is good. • Service - generally good. Food arrived very quickly. We had to ask for tea refills. The lunch was enjoyable and rates a 3.75 out of 5 rating – good. Notes and Tips • Choosing your ramen bowl is a 3 step process - choose type of bowl - spicy, shoyu, shio, etc., broth base (pork, chicken or vegetable) and lastly the protein – pork (cha su), chicken or vegetables. You can add extra items such as extra noodles and egg. • Limited sake and beer choices • Complimentary tea • Seating for about 20 at tables and another 6 at the counter. • Korean owned restaurant with a Japanese cook • Strip mall parking • No wifi • Wheelchair accessible washroom • See Facebook and internet for additional information • We went to Afuri ramen + dumpling about 6 weeks ago during their grand opening at the beginning of January, The ramen was above average but expensive with ramen bowls in the $16 range. See my review. • Other food options in the area include 2 pho restaurants, middle Eastern, burger places including 5 Guys, Burger King. McDonalds and 2 Japanese sushi restaurants to name a few.More
