About
The origin of The Story Café emerged from the mantra “There is a story in everything” So in 2018 when we fell upon a 30 year old warehouse, we saw the potential to transform the abandoned space into a warm, hospitable, unique eatery. Through consistent innovation, research and dedication we managed to blend our affinity for coffee, music, food and antique into a ambient mélange of vintage and nostalgia. Today, we proudly present our eatery to newcomers and are considered a staple in the Richmond community! We managed to see our dream become a reality, and are now catering to fulfill yours!

We have eaten here several times for both dinner and brunch, Each time the food and service has been excellent. They have a great choice of menu items which is perfect for even the pickiest of eaters! Our only complaint is that you can’t make a reservation for brunch, and as the restaurant isn’t in such a nice location there isn’t really anything to do while you wait. Last Sunday we waited for 30 minutes. Even though it would be a great restaurant for a celebration, I would likely go somewhere else where I could get a reservation. They do take dinner reservations so that is great!

We stayed in Richmond the night before flying home from our vacation in Whistler/Vancouver and took a chance on this restaurant. It was one of the best meals we had on our vacation. If you’re staying in the Richmond area and looking for someplace casual but with upscale but accessible food, this is a great spot. Our very picky 16 year old even enjoyed it. We picked appetizers that he would like—steak bites and calamari. Not terribly creative, but very fresh and great for what they were. My husband had the duck and I had the lobster gnocchi, and both were outstanding. The lobster gnocchi had as whole roasted lobster tale on top, instead of just bits of lobster in it, so each bite had lobster and a bit of shrimp. We ended with the lava cake, which was likewise delish. Should also note that we had great service and the restaurant itself has a fun vibe with all kinds of vintage memorabilia, starting with the Austin Healy parked in the front, old glass coke bottles in wooden crates, turntables, and records. It was overall just a fun, relaxing way to end our trip.

The Hampton Inn staff recommended The Story Cafe for dinner. The short walk from the hotel did not disappoint. My husband The Great Canadian Burger and was impressed by how well it was cooked and how delicious it was. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and knew how to respond to multiple food allergies. Thank you for a great meal.

We went looking for a restaurant near the airport, as the couple we were meeting for dinner were staying at a nearby hotel, and the Story came up as a recommended choice. First thing to note is if you cancel a reservation without 24 hour notice they charge a $25 per person no show charge; I’ve always been surprised more restaurants don’t have some sort of late cancellation charge, but $25 pp seems a bit steep, so be aware of that. I liked the feel and decor of the restaurant; apparently they have music many nights, but not the Friday we were there. Unfortunately for us, the food and service didn’t impress. I ordered Clam Chowder and the Spicy pizza; no clam chowder our server said. OK, what is the feature soup I asked? Oh, I’ll have to check that. Really, your servers don’t know what your features are? Anyway, he comes back advising roasted cauliflower, and I chose that. A few minutes later, he’s back; we don’t have the ingredients listed for the spicy pizza, but we can substitute. I said no thanks to improvisation, and changed to the meat pizza. Not a great start. My soup was OK taste wise, but lukewarm. Pizza was also just OK. My wife’s duck breast was also declared to be lukewarm. On the plus side, I liked the available local draft beer list. But you can’t buy any BC wine by the glass. That’s unfortunate. All in all, I’d say I’m not likely to rush back if I’m looking for a place to dine near the airport.

We came in for a drink and got a free table by a friendly waitress. Winelist is fair but only a few per glass and hardly any BC wines. And pretty expensive too. The bill for a glass of red wine and a beer was CAN$ 36

Had a great surprise when we visited Story Cafe. We were staying in a hotel down the street and arrived after dark so didn’t want to go too far for a meal. Walking down the street (an industrial area) we were a little concerned about what we would find and wow were we surprised to find such a lovely little place! On a Tuesday night, they had live music and although we didn’t have reservations they were able to seat us on the patio as the inside area was filling up fast (we were totally happy w/the screen and glass enclosed patio area). The music was a young lady accompanied by a guitarist playing and singing light rock. Great voice and playing. The food - wow! We both ended up getting the pasta carbonara. There was a vegetarian option made w/mushrooms as I’m allergic that is not an option for me and we were both happy to choose the pork option. The meal came out surprisingly fast and piping hot. The pasta was obviously freshly made and the ingredients were perfectly balanced. The waiter was really sweet, funny, and quick. Yummy meal in a great atmosphere what else could one ask for? As we left we saw a Porsche parked on the street so figured that the area was safe 😂

Booked online for indoor seating but had to seat on patio. Waitress indicated sometimes happens with system. Although there were heaters, we had to keep coats on, like many others. A customer walked into a flame heater that just about landed on our rocky table we balanced with one foot. Our burgers and fries were served fast and were quite tasty. Was not asked if we wanted more beer? Min gratuity 18%… comfortably expected from a restaurant that can hit all bases, but not this one yet. Over all, like concept of restaurant and food, but small details missing and place was a little crowded for space and needs some TLC to be rated higher than 7.5.

Was a nice surprise to find this little gem. Food was good service was good, organized a bit frenetic, but was a busy evening. Ordered a cheese plate which was ok but uninspired; so many more great options available locally thus could be improved. Will def go back though.

This cozy little cafe has a covered, narrow and heated patio for overflow customers. They have a musician playing most evenings. I ordered the Prawns and Scallops as a starter and the Beef Pappardelle as my main. For Dessert I had the Cheesecake. The Prawns and Scallops came on top of a subtle Curry Sauce and were cooked perfectly. Both the Prawns and Scallops were firm and fresh. I enjoyed this appetizer very much. The Beef Pappardelle came in a Demi Cream Sauce, topped with baby Tomatoes, Arugula and Goat Cheese. It’s a very rich dish with a fair amount of braised Beef Short Rib. It’s also quite filling. Although it wasn’t spectacular in any way, it was a nice tasting dish. The Cheesecake was ok, but wasn’t anything more than average. Service was very good and prices were reasonable.

We are on the patio and she offered to turn on misters but forgot to do it! Beer I ordered was ‘out’. Steak bits appetizer was mainly deep fried beef fat pieces. Pizza was good. Server didn’t refill water on a warm summer day. Overall good but not great.

I and three friends were at dinner in this restaurant on 27 July a hot summer night. We were at a table directly on the sunlight. The room was hot and stuff and when we asked to open the door for fresh air, we were refused by saying " we don't have a door-stopper" ! I understand it is an old building but at least they should have some maintenance/upgrading to make the customer comfortable when dinning. We ordered wine, salad, Tomahawk Steak and a Surf and Turf, the food is good but the service was so disappointed. We were only given a bread plate for all these food not until I have to ask for dinner plates. All the servers seem to hide from the hot sun and stand around the bar and chat among themselves. They never offer any service to ease us from the "HOT" surroundings. We hurry our dinner and leave at quickly as possible to "cool down" in another restaurant ! I made these comments is because I got wonderful service during last X'mas dinner that I went back again after a few days even at Corvid period, the service was great and I highly recommended this restaurant to my friends. But I felt so bad and sorry for my friends for this visit. I highly recommend that you should have more training on your server or get some skillful ones to make customer happier !

My wife and I each had soup. I had Wild Mushroom and she had French Onion. Both were quite good and tasty. We then had sandwiches. My wife had a burger with mushrooms, cheese and onions and fries and I had a salmon burger with a side salad. Both were nice sized portions, brioche buns, and fresh ingredients. We shared for dessert "Killing me Softly." Chocolate lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Beautifully presented and extremely yummy.

Very glad I found the great reviews for this place on TA. Story Cafe was on our route to the train into the city for the day so popped in for a couple of pastries on our way and they were delicious. Staff were friendly too. We were so impressed we stopped on our way back through in the early evening to see if we could grab a table for dinner. At around 5.30 pm the place was already busy but we were lucky enough to get a table and both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. This place is very unassuming looking on the outside but has a lovely decor and ambience once you enter with friendly service added in. A wonderful find thanks to TA and deserves the great reviews.

Stopped in here for brunch on our way to the airport and couldn't have been more gruntled. The food choices were unique and delicious. Fried chicken (so light and crispy, not overly salty) and French toast (coconut custard dipped) were absolutely stellar, and the pork belly with beans delighted. Can't say enough about the cheery, attentive servers, they made our last moments in Vancouver so positive. Highly recommend (get there early).
