Mega Sushi is one of three Japanese restaurants in Steveston. We decided to come here because it was close by to where we had some business to attend to. Mega Sushi is not in the heart of Steveston but on the outskirts, closer to Garry...Point.
We arrived at 11:30, right at opening time and the 4 of us plus another couple were the only ones on this Friday. Less than 30 minutes later, the restaurant filled up with the lunch time crowd.
The 4 of us ordered the following:
• Spicy Chicken Karaage ($9.45) – seasoned deep fried chicken with spicy sauce. Good but could have been a little more crispy. The sauce had a very slight kick to it.
• Spicy Agedashi Tofu ($6.95 x 2 orders) - deep fried tofu coated with scallions, sesame seeds topped with a with spicy sauce. 6 large pieces per order. The coating was crunchy and the spicy sauce was more on the mild side.
• Gomae - spinach with sesame sauce ($5.95) – made with a sesame paste and very tasty
• Takoyaki (5 pieces for $6.95) - bits of octopus inside a slightly crispy batter shell, garnished with takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise, and aonori (dried seaweed). I thought the takoyaki was a bit too pasty (wet) inside but they were still tasty. The condiments were nice.
• Mega Bento ($18.95) – beef teriyaki, tempura, Alaska roll, 3 pieces of gyoza (pork & vegetable potstickers, green spring mix salad with Japanese dressing, ebi sunomono and miso soup. About 7 pieces of tempura including 2 ebi. The Alaska roll with the smoked salmon was tasty. The only complaint here is that this bento box did not come with rice. The other protein option is chicken.
• Avocado Roll ($4.95) – Avocado and cucumber roll
• Spicy Yam Tempura Roll ($5.50) - yam tempura and cucumber with spicy sauce & spicy mayonnaise
• Sushi & Sashimi Lunch Set ($17.95) – 2 pieces Atlantic salmon, 3 pieces Tuna, 3 pieces of Nigiri sushi - Atlantic salmon, tuna and ebi, 8 piece California roll. Served with miso soup, sunomono salad (with 1 shrimp), tempura appetizer (3 or 4 pieces), green salad and a slice of orange. The set also came with a special of the day – 1 piece deep fried sushi.
• Nigiri Lunch Set ($15.95) – 5 pieces of Nigiri sushi including Atlantic salmon, tuna, ebi, tamago and chopped scallop. 8 piece California roll served with miso soup, sunomono salad (with 1 shrimp), tempura appetizer (3 or 4 pieces), green salad and a slice of orange. The set also came with a special of the day – 1 piece deep fried sushi.
We over-ordered and as a result, we had enough food leftover for another meal.
The total bill came to $104.53 before the tip.
