We've been coming here for many years, starting from when they were on Alexandra Rd. Seems the wife pastry has definitely gone downhill. The filling is now just a sugary, doughy mess. No more the taste and texture of wintermelon. Although, T&T isn't the best, the filling tastes better and is much firmer than Kam Do. It's also less than half the price. Too bad.

We come here regularly for the Large and bright location just south of Aberdeen Centre. Opens early (730/8a) with lots of different pastries. Both sweet and savoury. Well priced. We love the Old Wives Cakes. So good. Easy parking and access. They obviously cater for weddings and events. Good luck and enjoy!

I recommend the egg tarts, almond and walnut cookies and buns. Buns are soft with good amount of filling. Egg tarts are baked fresh and delicious. Quite authentic!

We were brought to this bakery by a local friend who said this is one of the best for Chinese pastry. They have a good variety of Cantonese style of baked pastry including the pineapple bun, cocktail bun and baked bbq bun. We also ordered their "1,000 year old egg" tart and the "wife" tart. All were very tasty. We would buy here again for Cantonese pastry.

we loved this bakery as it offers the widest range of high quality baked goods. they also packed your cakes and bread in nice paper boxes. all baked goods are individually packaged. the cashier is kept honest as you will be given a printed receipt of items purchased. highly recommend.

The Kam Do has a nice selection of sweets. I personally enjoy the BBQ pork buns. Also I try to avoid patronizing the bakery during the late afternoon because of the numerous bus patrons who queue and impede the access of Kam Do customers.

Immaculate presentation of a great variety of sweet and savory baked goods. Reasonable prices but cash only. We purchase dinner rolls, sweet rolls to go with morning coffee, and meat filled buns for lunch. Never disappointed.

I have frequented many Asian bakeries in North America. Kam Do was bar none the best bakery on many fronts. The selection, price and baked goods were impressive. So glad I purchased some to bring home to Toronto. The baked goods freeze well and maintain freshness. They are known for their wife cakes (Lo Po Bengs) a traditional pastry ....I stuck to a more western palate with coconut ,pineapple buns and egg tarts. The place was clean and bright and service wasn't bad. It can be a challenge to park but is situated next to Richmond Mall. There is also parking across the street in a plaza. If you like Chinese baked goods, Kam Do is the best!

We picked up 5 buns, a blueberry coconut roll, and 3 flaky pastry balls (taro, lotus paste with salted egg, and pineapple). The buns were good, but not anything special compared to other HK style bakeries. The pastries however, are something special. The pastry itself is flaky and light, not overly "oily" or dry, and the filling for each was flavourful and not overly sweet.

I had the chance to try a few of the baked items at this place - Coconut Bun, Pineapple Bun, Wife-Cake, all, even with the Vancouver premium, weren't actually that badly priced as the $1.80 to $2.00 a pop they were asking is in line with some of the higher end bakeries here in Toronto. Those Portuguese tarts though.. man, they're something else. The crust is kind of average, I'll be the first to admit. I've certainly had better crusts, particularly those over in Asia. But the filling... I don't know what kind of voodoo magic they're using, but the custard in this tart is amongst the creamiest I've ever had, tart form or not. I think they were $1.80 a pop, which, again, isn't that exorbitant, and the size wasn't small either. I think as far as a bakery goes, you're probably better off coming here than you are going to Lido - the product itself is fairly comparable, but you'll save yourself the sanity of avoiding lineups and disappointment due to the small batch sizes there.

Kam Do Bakery has great Chinese baked goods with a variety of choices to fulfill most anyone's taste. Our two favorites are the BBQ Pork buns and the Wife's Cakes. The others I have tried were the Red Bean buns and Pineapple buns. Don't let my choices slow you down, there are many, many other selections from which to choose. They are all fresh and tasty. This bakery is on the east side of the Richmond Mall on #3 Road and across from the Skytrain station. No street parking,. however, one may park in the mall parking lot and walk to the bakery. Warning: Do not park behind the men's wear store or the restaurant that are located just north of the bakery. there is a full-time parking agent and he is quick on writing parking tickets. At 8:00 p.m., the bakery items are discounted, however, your choices may be limited. Many locals will enter the bakery around 7:45 and load a tray with items and then loiter until the discount hour. Oh well, you snooze, no loose. I gave this location only four stars due to the general lack of customer service by the Chinese employees who are unfriendly almost to the point of being rude. Be aware that this is a cash only business, be prepared.

The first time eating their pastries was when a friend gifted me and my family a large box of them including two red bean paste pastries, a lotus seed and century egg pastry and a two wife cakes. My favorite is the lotus seed and century egg because these pastries are usually very dry and pasty but the lotus paste added a moistness and the century egg added texture and saltiness to balance the sweetness. The wonderful combination between flaky, moist, salty and savoury made that pastry the best I've eaten ever and I've eaten a lot of pastries from Hong Kong, Macau and Beijing.

UPDATE: This Tripadvisor listing is outdated. I have submitted a correction to them, hoping they will correct this ASAP. The recent reviews are correct, reviwing same place, just they did not submit a correction along with their review. While waiting for this to happen, here is the correct information: 130, 6211 No. 3 Rd, Richmond, BC V6Y 0C2 Phone# 604-284-5611 A little background history: KAM DO Bakery and Restaurant used to be on the "Golden Mile aka food street" in Richmond on Alexandra Road. It moved in 2011 to this current location and decided to eliminate the restaurant business. Now its focused only on selling bakery items. Parking is free up to 45 minutes behind the building in the parkade. They marked it with signage, about 6 stalls they reserved. You have to enter it from SABA Road when travelling south on No. 3 Road However, a new location has been leased and they will be moving into that once again. Its still nearby and it will be a new building directly under the SKYTRAIN tracks. Not sure when and why they want to move but a future reviewer should note and report it when its time. There are so many Asian bakeries in Richmond and Greater Vancouver Area but what is the big draw of this bakery? Well, keep in mind I can find other bakeries selling similar items for less than what Kam Do sells it for such as their baked BBQ Pork Buns, pork dumplings, swiss roll cakes, cocktail buns, baked chicken and beef buns. Here is the secret: Their wife biscuits (Low Po Behn in Cantonese) featured in 6 varieties. They are: Lotus seed paste +preserved 1000 year old duck egg yolk, red bean paste, winter melon, date paste, taro and pineapple. These are sweet and savory, somehow most people including myself believe this is the best in western Canada, if not the BEST in whole of Canada. Could even be considered a cult following. The concept adopted here is self serve. You come into the store, grab a plastic serving tray and the tongs provided, and start picking the pastries you want to buy from the shelves. To keep most items hygienic, they are individually wrapped in cellophane. Once you are done loading your tray, proceed to the cashier and pay. More refrigerated cakes and pastries awaits you at the front of the store too if you are not done. The establishment is strictly take out only so no tables or chairs for you to dine in. Too bad as it would be a nice place to have Hong Kong Milk Tea, Coffee, and tea along with their bakery items for morning tea and afternoon tea. Its clean, bright, and smells divine here. All other items are standard and slightly over priced for my liking but I come here for the Wife Biscuits and everyone I know who visits Vancouver always buys this prior to bringing it on the plane, going home to enjoy it the next few days.
