Man! One look at our bill and I was totally speechless!!
Average cost per person for tonight's 5 course dinner at this Hong Kong stirred fry specialist, which included complimentary soup-of-the day and dessert, cost just $17, inclusive of tax and tips!! That is $3 less than the price I paid for my ho-hum ' Big Arc Combo of Hamburger, fries and a soft drink at McDonalds!! '........and the former was way, way more delicious and enjoyable!
Our near flawlessly prepared meal consisted of the following:
- Free range chicken with scallion & onion sizzling oil soy sauce
- Stirred fried sliced beef with Chinese Kale ( Gai Lan )
- Sweet and Sour Pork
- Stirred fry lotus roots, cured salted pork with brown bean curd
- Wok Seared tangy & sweet Filet Mignon slices, Chinese style.
Great tasting food at such a freakingly cheap price point! Absolutely unbelievable and amazing!!

The place is hopping busy but they are so well staffed and the staff are in full time beast mode!! They are fast friendly and fast!!
They have all the favourites plus more
We ordered the lobster with ginger green onion it was perfect!
The pork chops and mushroom sauté was amazing!
And the steamed chicken came with a giant helping of the ginger and green onion oil
All in all we were over the top happy with this place!!
Definitely going back!!

very good hong kong style cafe. Food is great and the price is cheap. Always full of people so the food is fresh. Downside: need to wait and the restaurant could be slightly cleaner.

We went to this little HK-style cafe to have lunch and we arrived just in time before the weekday lunch rush hour! Hai Tang Cafe is not unlike all the other HK-style cafes. It serves all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner combos and is located on 16th Ave. near Woodbine Ave.
We ordered several things to share: Beef Satay Noodle in Soup with Toast with Butter and Two Eggs, and Curry Chicken on Rice. We actually changed the all-day combo from the Preserved Veggie and Shredded Pork with Vermicelli in Soup to the Beef Satay one. The server, although very busy and running around trying to get everyone seated and ordering, was very kind and able to cater to us very efficiently.
Their food is very decent and reasonably priced.

Was a regular client there, always go there for their food. However, they lost me forever due to their rude customer services. We went there just for a quick light bite and waited patiently for a table of 4 during dinner time .After we've been sitted, we only ordered two courses and one of their waitresses made a comment in a mockery way saying: "oh, only two courses? so not worth of waiting..." and then, when we finished the dinner, another waitress told us they are not suppose to give us the after dinner dessert because we did not ordered enough for dinner time. But she will go ahead to give us anyway...seriously? this is how you descriminate someone who just want to ordered 2 courses for quick light bite? at this point, I was very uncomfortable with their services and comments already, so I did not leave 10 percent tips like I always did this time, and the waitress actually had the nerve to come back to tell me that i donnot give enough tips and lecture me on how Canadian suppose to always tips 10 cents.blah blah blah, Seriously? I am a canadian and trained in the area of Law, the way they treated me and my family was completely out of the line. So i will never returned to this restaurant ever again!

I come to have meals at Hai Tang regularly, especially breakfast. The food is reasonably priced. Service is quick. The Hong Kong milk tea is very good, which is included in most meals.

We’ve been buying takeout breakfast from this place for over half a year now. Food is good for the money, as it’s not expensive and decent portions. This morning we found a strand of curly hair in our takeout which questions their hygiene standard. I can certainly understand if it’s a normal strand of hair but this is just disgusting!

I decided to give this establishment a second chance after suffering an initial bad experience a while back, caused by a few insensitive and border-line hostile wait staff.
Amongst over a handful of Hong Kong cafe style eateries along the 16th Avenue stretch between Leslie and Woodbine. One taste of Hai Tang's food propels them to close to the top of the heap. With one plate dishes and 'wok-hay' preparation their forte, the area that stood out IMO, was their amazing and ' commercial ' tasting delicious sauces! Very reminiscence of the taste profile offered by some of the better cafe style food found in Hong Kong. Price point of their lunch specials was also very attractive and extremely good value.
A definite go-to place for an enjoyable value-for-money lunch if in the area.

Menu is simple and the food is good! Great value which makes up for the impersonal service. They seem to try to get people in & out soon quickly as possible.

Feeling too lazy to cook, I made a special but thankfully, relatively short drive from Richmond Hill to this Hong Kong style cafe/restaurant in the hope of taking-out a simple meal-in-one, ' Fry beef with Tomato on rice '. Arriving at 5.15 pm, I went to the counter and tried placing my order. The female server looking after me, ' bluntly ' declined my request, citing they only serve these type of dishes up to 5.00 pm! Looking around and noticing the front of house was EMPTY, I politely requested whether the kitchen can make a rare exception? After all, I did make a special trip from Richmond Hill. Nope! The answer was still NO!! Looks like they just don't want my business!
Well, thanks to the internet, here I am using social media to vent my frustration and let the world know!!!!
I do not care if they serve Michelin 3* quality food at hole-in-the -wall pricing. With this type of lousy service, I'm sure there are plenty of better choices in the neighborhood!

One of my favourite restaurants in Markham area. It is busy at most of the time because of the reasonable price and the good quality (and quantity) of food. Even though the food is not great but they never disappoint me. The restaurant offers Hong Kong style breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea before 6 pm and traditional Chinese food in the evening. Remember, the restaurant does not offer fine dining so do not expect first class reception/dinning atmosphere. I, personally, highly recommend their Hong Kong Style milk-tea.

The location is located next to big intersection but quite hidden. It should be considered one of the best restaurants to visit if you are in town. The restaurant is small and does not come with much tables but it offers quite a variety of different Chinese cuisine. Aim to go there around 6pm for dinner to avoid line ups. The price is reasonable with courteous staff. I've never tried its takeout but seeing a lot of people ordered takeouts there, it must be good.
