What a feast we had! To start and get the juices flowing, we ordered their Baguette with olive oil and balsamic and a side plate of their house-made Duck Rillettes that were delicious, salty for my wife, perfect for me.
That was followed by a killer appetizer that my wife ordered called Baked Sicilian Eggplant … a Caponata (the name of this Sicilian dish) with whipped ricotta, roasted tomatoes, marinara, mozzarella, pistachio crumble, balsamic and it was to die for … I could have eaten a larger portion of that as a main course. I had the French Onion soup which was very good … the soup comprises a beef & red wine broth, caramelized onion, herb croutons and Emmental cheese. I make a mean French Onion soup (in all modesty) and I use Gruyere cheese in mine instead of Emmental … I find the Gruyere more sharp and robust than the Emmental but this worked beautifully and I happily devoured it all down to the last drop.
For our main course, we had such a difficult time choosing … click on the restaurant website and you’ll see why when you look at their menu. My wife ordered the Chicken Marsala (Chicken Supreme, seasonal vegetables, fingerling potatoes, Marsala & wild mushroom sauce) and I ordered the Mushroom Pappardelle (Fresh Pappardelle Pasta, Chicken, roasted mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, arugula, red onion, Grana Padano). Toni’s dish was marvelous … the Marsala wasn’t overpowering but present throughout, the chicken was tender and juicy, the mushroom sauce was light and yet so flavourful and all of the vegetables were cooked perfectly. For me, I loved my Pappardelle … perfectly cooked pasta and that glorious sauce that held it all together yet allowed each component to shine individually as you ate your way through it, bite after bite … I mopped the plate clean as a whistle with the remaining baguette. We had ordered a bottle of Italian Pinot Grigio to go with our meal but they were out of the one we ordered and the owner came by with a bottle of his own private reserve collection, an Italian organic Pinot Grigio that was EXCELLENT! Dry, clear, fresh and crisp … a pure delight that complemented our choices for mains . Moreover, the owner charged us the same price as the wine that we had ordered but I am sure that it was worth much more, if the taste was any indication.
When dessert rolled around, we were pretty full but as my Mom used to say “At work you do what you can … at the table you put in an effort” … so with that in mind, we ordered the Vanilla Crème Brûlée with two spoons … Perfetto!.
Our server, Iris, was a pure delight ... attentive, efficient and service with a beautiful smile.

The patio was a quaint and pleasant place to grab a quick lunch on a hot sunny afternoon. The service was quick. I had the mussels that had been recommended by a friend - I was not disappointed . There were ample mussels in a decent broth served with pieces of fresh baguette. If it was supposed to be Spanish chorizo In the broth, it need to be spicier as looked and tasted more like ground beef. My wife was a tad disappointed with the French onion soup - Was nice and cheesy but said it tasted more like vinegar , possibly too much wine but missing the beef broth component - not the taste she was expecting. We would go back.

Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed the mussels, it is a recipe passed down two generations and resemble a "pork bolognese". As for the French Onion, we will take your comments into consideration, look at our recipe and will adjust it accordingly to ensure your next visit is better than the last!

We went for dinner here tonight. It was amazing. 3 of us had the special of the day. It was a red pepper soup absolutely delicious. Pork belly with squash and other goodies again it tasted fantastic. The dessert was a maple creme brulee. Just the perfect ending for the meal. This only cost us $35.00 per person. My husband started with the mackerel. He said it was very good. Then he had the pork wellington. It was amazing !! He finished off his meal with the lemon pie which was to die for. This is an amazing place for dinner . Totally enjoyed ourselves. The service was fantastic!! I will definitely go here again

I dont like writing a negative review but honestly I would feel bad if others went here to eat. I ordered a wrap and the taste of mold was unmistakable and frankly nasty. I had my husband try the wrap, without saying anything to him (to see his genuine reaction) and the first thing he said was oh my this tastes like mold. It was disgusting. My husband ordered the French onion soup which was completely bland and uninspired. You would get better soup from a can. My husband loves french onion soup and orders it often and in his words this was the worst french onion soup he has ever eaten. The salad served with my wrap, featured slimy old lettuce, with little black bits of old lettuce stuck to it. That salad should not have been served. No quality control. At all. I would never ever serve a salad like that in my home to my family.
Server was unapologetic and basically just made excuses. Saying the food was fresh. It was clearly not.
We usually enjoy Canmore/Banff food scene but not today. Wont eat here ever again snd woukd never ever recommend it to anyone.

We have been coming to Market Bistro since they opened, and always looked forward to completing our meal with Anthony's Meyer Lemon Pie. Apparently the restaurant has been sold to new management. No lemon pie available. The Capicolla flatbread was bland with cheap olives on top, the risotto was skimpy on seafood and lacking flavour. What a sad change from the amazing French cuisine we are used to.

We’re looking forward to the exciting changes that are to come with new management as we continue to improve the Bistro as our best interest. Anthony’s lemon pie was not on our take out menu as we’re still working on the logistics for sending these for delivery and pick up but rest assured, we do still offer it in house. As for the meal, we apologise that your expectations were not met, we have started importing our olives from Italy along with our Capicolla and the European taste definitely differs from the olives we previously had from elsewhere. We hope you return to the Bistro for another try and find other items from our menu that you will love as much, if not more, than before.

We arrived early and were seated at a high top table that actually didn’t tip! Our server Charu was a delight. The music was a gentle funky mix and nice lighting added to the Market’s ambiance. It felt cozy.
My wife decided two appys were her choice with Salmon Tartar and the Mussels. Both were superb. The tartar had a fresh creaminess to it. The mussels were a highlight! You must try these. They are in a savoury tomato sauce and it arrives with dipping bread to soak it all up. There was no sauce left at the end.
I decided to order that days special which was braised beef rib with prawns. It was so tender and flavourful. The reduction was very umami and the prawns were cooked to perfection. They were not rubbery at all as is a common finding with shrimp.
These guys know how to cook a great meal. It is a hidden gem in Canmore and worth your while to visit.

There's new owners here since last year and we wondered if it was the same high quality as before...and yes it is! We are both locals and eat out a lot in Canmore and know how hit and miss dining out can be, but we'll definitely come back to the Bistro regularly. We started with the mussels, they were amazing, with just the right amount of bread to soak up the delicious tomato and pork sauce. The beer list was excellent, with all local micro brews, but my girl wasn't sure of the wines, so the server brought us over three different tasters til we decided on the right ones for our meals. Helpful, attentive service. Then the entries arrived. I had the duck confit and it was perfect, I've never had one better, and I order it whenever it's on a menu. She had the penne polo (chicken and pasta) and it was rich, creamy and delicious. A very generous size too. For desert we shared the lemon pie and ice cream and it was delicious. Highly recommend this place. Excellent patio too on a sunny day.

My partner and I stopped off for some lunch after hiking around the Three Sisters area and playing disc golf. The salad I had was so generous with the amount of tuna it had on it and all the ingredients were so fresh and well prepared. My partner’s food was delicious and we can’t wait to go back. Wait staff were hard working, efficient, and kind. A hidden gem in the Canmore area!

Had lunch at Market Bistro yesterday. The very pleasant server Charu sat us down at a table with a wonderful view of the mountains ( all tables have great views). I ordered the Italian panini . Possibly the best sandwich I’ve ever had! Incredible mix of meats, cheese and tomatoes, along with just the right amount of pesto on a very tasty fresh bun. Delicioso!! My wife had the French Onion soup which she described as rich and flavourful, “ better than the Banff Springs Hotel onion soup!” Can’t wait to return! Great patio and deck for summer dining.

Ordered the special of the week (meatball sandwich & tomato soup) the soup came out fresh & hot, with great consistency, not too liquid not too thick, perfectly balanced. The meatball on the sandwich were so rich, the chef even explained that they use 3 different types of meat for the meatballs. By far the best ones I have ever tried. They’re Juicy and full of flavour. And a special shout-out to Jeet my server. He was very knowledgeable about every dish, drinks and specials on the restaurant, he was very friendly and it looked like he enjoys what he’s doing, and that will bring a different taste to your drinks and food. Thanks to the whole team, and I hope this restaurant one day becomes more popular, since it’s a hidden gem.

Last night we used their online order system for a takeout dinner, it was fast and easy to use so simple to order on my phone. Their response was quick and right on time. The food was great. We will order again from them for sure.

My friend and I visit Canmore from Calgary several times a year, but this was our first time visiting The Market Bistro. It's not right in the downtown area, but definitely worth the drive! Service was first rate (thanks to Charu), the food was delicious (we each had the daily special, braised beef with prawns), and the presentation was lovely. Dessert was great too; my friend had the creme brûlée, I had the cheesecake.
We'll definitely be recommending this place to friends.

I tried the Atlantic salmon and prawns, as well as their in-house chocolate torte, paired with a nice organic Riesling. The fish was a bit overdone, but the flavours on the plate overcame any anomalies in texture and mouth feel. We were pampered by our attentive, friendly server, and we enjoyed al fresco dining on a sunny late spring afternoon with a gorgeous view of the mountains.

We always stop at the Bistro when we’re riding our bikes in the neighborhood. Always worth it. Today we sat outside on the lovely patio. I had the chicken pesto wrap with a bowl of cream of mushroom soup. The wrap was a surprise - the outside was nice and crispy, tender chicken and sautéed vegetables inside. The mushroom soup was home made and wonderful - very flavourful, with just the right amount of cream. Kudos to the chef!

We arrived tired and hungry after a long day of travelling back down the Icefields Parkway. Our server, Charu, was delightful and kind. And the food - best food we had the entire trip! Mushroom risotto was to die for. Warm, fresh, flavorful bread with olive oil hit the spot as we waited for our entrees. For dessert, the Vanilla Creme Brulet was excellent, but the lemon pie was amazing. Fun, trendy, upscale at reasonable prices. Felt very comfortable and casual on the pretty outdoor patio. Would definitely stop here again if back in the area. Worth the short drive out of town!
