Fresh mussels beautifully prepared and sauced in huge quantity served in homey warm surroundings, how could we resist? My mobility-impaired wife and I made pigs of ourselves having stumbled over this bistro, the one restaurant within hobbling distance of our tour accommodation. Excellent wine list, lovely service and food to die for. No fake French cooking here, all seriously real. And ground squirrels outside to entertain! We spent two nights in Canmore and ate here again on the second night, no point in searching for better. Thanks folks, it made our stay! I'd write a second review repeating this for our second dinner if I could!

Wow! We’ve been in Canmore almost 12 years and hadn’t been to SAGE! It was amazing. Nice environment, excellent - not rushed service, great wine list and delish ++ food.
Only sad moment - too full for dessert. A significant part of their menu can accommodate Gluten Free.

We were a party of six on a Friday evening. The restaurant accommodated us smoothly and professionally.
Our food was, start to finish, outstanding. The appetizers we chose were the calamari (nicely and unusually breaded), the French onion soup (piping hot with just the right amount of gooey cheese), and the ricotta melange. The chef also sent over a loaf of fresh bread with a small ramekin of spiced spread. We used the bread —which was often refilled —throughout the meal.
We were expertly guided by our server to a dry white vigonier from British Columbia, which was new to us and fit well with our choices.
Our entrees included the red curry seafood bowl (spicy enough to be interesting with a large portion of cod), the hamburger with Alberta-sourced meat, the mushroom risotto, the trout (not overdone). Sides were thoughtfully and attractively arranged on all plates.
Our servers were attentive, but not obtrusive, bringing water, additional bread and the pepper mill at reasonable intervals.
For dessert, we tried a scoop of the vanilla bean gelato, the flourless chocolate cake and the lemon tartlets. Each was delicious and beautifully arranged. Our server prepared a fresh pot of decaf coffee for our table.
This is the kind of premium dining experience one expects in a large metro area, and it is a pleasure to find it in Canmore. You will pay more for this experience, but it is worth it.

We are longtime residents of Canmore and have been to, or ordered food from, Sage many times. Recently we ordered take-out and were stunned by our experience. We ordered the roasted cauliflower and mushroom risotto. Both were excellent but when we opened the container with the risotto, we were surprised at the tiny portion.
We phone the restaurant to provide feedback to the manager, nothing else - didn't expect anything other than perhaps an apology. We were stunned at his response. His first words, verbatim, were: "Well, obviously you didn't read the menu". Our response was "Pardon?". He went on: "This isn't a main course its a small plate, you should have noticed that and not expected a big portion". I would say the portion filled about a third of a standard takeout container. He went on "My prices are going up and I have to have food shipped from Calgary..." "...don't you know there is inflation? Go to a grocery store and check prices".

Cozy spot with warm service. Spouse had the mussels and raved about them (and she is picky about mussels). I had the French onion soup which was one of the best I've had. Also had the sliced beef with Yorkshire pudding and au jus. Very savory. Small but excellent wine list. Definitely will go back.

One of our favorites in Canmore because it is consistently GREAT!! The Sunday Brunch was wonderful so we went back for an outstanding dinner...The lamb was superb and the crab dip appetizer was sensational...Wonderful friendly service...this is a terrific local establishment and you can feel the true Canadian hospitality accompanied by an outstanding chef!

Wonderful atmosphere. Covid-19 protocols being observed. Masked wait staff. Our food was to die for. It is a better value to buy the bottle of wine than drink by the glass. The wine selection is huge. The wait staff was friendly and although we were 20 min early for dinner service Chef had our food to us quickly.

Nine of us for dinner - one gluten free and two vegan! The dinner menu was full of choices for the three of us - many "normal" menu items are adaptable. The food was delicious - it all came together and was hot which is usually a challenge when serving such a large crowd. Service was excellent. The view from our table was lovely too as we watched the shadow of the sun disappear behind the mountains. Items ordered: 3 risotto (adapted once for vegan), roasted asparagus with parmesan crisp (GF), roasted cauliflower (vegan), creamy crab dip (adapted for GF), kimchi burger, lamb and more. Definitely recommend this restaurant!

Sage Bistro is a beautiful place to enjoy fine dining in a casual rustic atmosphere in the mountains.
Indoors is cozy and quaint, the patio is lovely, the staff are excellent and the food is delicious.
You won’t be disappointed. 😊

We discovered the Sage Bistro a few years back and thoroughly enjoyed a late night charcuterie board and a glass of wine. Their dinner menu looked impressive and we pledged to return. We finally planned a stop in Canmore that coincided with dinner and we were not disappointed. Great service from a very personable staff. Don’t let the modest interior misguide you; this a foodies establishment. Thai seafood bowl and chicken cordon bleu were wonderful and paired with a lovely wine pairing suggested by our server. The chocolate pavé dessert was excellent for sharing. Great meal and experience, wonderful location for couples and a quiet evening with someone special.

It's always a wonderful day when you start with brunch at Sage. The atmosphere is warm and inviting without being too log cabin kitschy! The service is always friendly and attentive. And the food!! Hollandaise sauce I could swim in, fresh baked offerings and produce paired with a Mimosa or Caesar. I don't know why we aren't there more often!!!

Due to Covid restriction it was Outdoor Patio Dining , we called ahead and a friendly Staff Member said “come on down” . We met friends from Calgary and we were seated on a very nice patio with good wind break and views of the majestic Mountains . We found a variety of food groups at reasonable prices . The waiter was wonderful and welcoming and had a great sense of humour . The 4 of us all enjoyed our meals . Thank you Sage Bistro , we enjoyed !

We came for our anniversary dinner and had the best night. I still constantly crave the pasta I had from the feature menu. Creamy, but not too rich with vegetables and noodles cooked perfectly. My husband loved his seafood dish as well and the wine they recommended was one of the best I've had. Quiet atmosphere in a charming log-style building with a nice view of the mountains out the window! Highly recommend!

We tried here back in 2015 and as we were in the area again, we though we would give it another try.
It was probably even better than last time. Very good service and an excellent meal.
If you are in or passing through Canmore, we highly recommend eating here.

Stopped here quickly for a glass of sparking wine and local beer. Had a cheese board which had three pieces of cheese, nuts, apricots and a jam. Prices for drinks weren't bad for the drinks and cheese but one of the cheeses was very plain and not worthy to be on the board.
The only complaint I had was there was an older lady smoking on the patio and trying to hide it. I'm sure the staff was aware but they let her anyways and I wasn't going to cause a scene.
