Another shower celebration, this time for my cousin's youngest daughter getting married in Boston July 1/23. We got the elevated room with all the windows. There were 15 of us and it was a lovely lunch with great company and fabulous food.

The wife and I thought we would try the Brock House as we had heard good things, so we went and got seated in the back area with the fireplace and TV on the wall. So far so good. Drinks ordered and then we ordered...the apps once the drinks came. I started getting antsy when my app order seemed to be taking over 15 mins. Folks are hungry when they first arrive so I was hoping our server would speed things up. Not so more talking and watching other tables get their apps whlle we were hungry. App came finally and the Calamari was great. The main food came after not too long and it was amazing, one of the best roast beef prime ribs I have ever had. My wifes food was the Beef Brisket and it was great too. So to keep score 10/10 for food quality - 7/10 for service. Servers need to keep in mind to be there when needed but not become the centre of attention by needless and excessive chatting. Its a fine balance and when the server gets the timing right you will not notice but when you have to wait due to chatter its gets frustrating. Guests may seem friendly but servers have to realize they are not the main attraction. So overall great food, slow app service with chatty server. But will go again. CHeers PaulMore
We were invited to a Baby Shower being held in a party room at this Restaurant. The decor was nice and the food good. Delicious veggie platter, potato salad and Roast Beef sandwiches. The serve was spotty, had to go to the bar several times...for drink orders. Desserts were fair.More
Honestly one of the worst chicken Ceasar salads I've everbhad. Very surprising for a high end restaurant
The meal I had was their Lamb Sirloin which I was so looking forward to since I have not been out to a restaurant since Covid hit. Well unfortunately, it wasn't good. It was chewy and fatty, I hardly could chew it without hurting my...jaw. The wine I ordered was good, but for an 8oz at $15.00, I could have just bought the bottle. Expensive.More
We had the privilege to attend a 60th anniversary lunch. Very impressed with the food and service. 20 of us and not a single mistake. Staff was extremely friendly and very efficient. Food was very tasty.
Never disappointed at the Brock House. The features were smoked brisket and shrimp pizza! Chicken and waffles.is always a favourite. For an app we chose the charcuterie board, the salami is sooo good. The chocolate mousse dessert was the perfect finish! I can't wait to...go back!More
My husband and I eat out a lot in Toronto as well as Durham, the US and abroad as there is just the two of us. We have driven by The Brock House many times and wanted to try it as they have a beautiful...patio. We arrived around 3:00PM. The patio was almost empty. We were ushered to a small table for two which would barely be able to hold a dinner plate and drinks. We asked for one of the bigger tables but we were told that's only for four people and there were reservations for 5:00PM. So we went inside and it too was basically empty. We ordered the Mini Yorkies they were okay but way too much salt. My husband ordered the Shepherds Pie and it too was over salted, mainly just mashed potato hardly any meat, he had half a dozen mouthfuls and left it. I ordered the lamb and again hardly any meat over some potatoes. The wine list was poor with very few international choices. Given how nice the restaurant looked I would have thought they would have a much better wine selection. The meal is way overpriced for what you get and for the quality of the food. And as for why we were refused the table for 4 on the patio is still a puzzle because we left the restaurant at around 5:00PM and the patio was still almost empty. We'll never bother to go there again, there are too many other restaurants with lots of choice on the menu and where the food and the wine list is excellent. This place just isn't worth it. The place definitely needs a new cook.More
Now I understand that nothing has been open for so long but just properly prepared food in any restoration should be a must. With less than ideal surroundings simple things should never been overlooked. To start less then friendly service from the server should never...have occurred. No only was she uninformed about the menu the upselling of each product was confusing. When questioned about a dish she recommended she admitted to have never had. The food is where I was disgusted with. Cold lobster mash potatoes was my wife's starter. Then a beautiful looking baked potato until you passed the toppings. The middle was as hard as concrete and couldn't be eaten. The beef dip looked good but same issue. The meat was also bleeding so that was incorrectly prepared. Everything was bland and poor prepared. No social distancing so I guess that is the ambience. The only bright side was the Cesar salad was good but if you can't make a salad properly you should close down. If you like over prized food at a poor quality this is perfect placeMore
Finally, we went out for dinner once the lockdown eased and I'm glad we did. After driving by this restaurant over the years, it was now time to go and give it a try. All I can say was that it was well worth it....This place boasts a nicely designed, fair-sized patio that could easily accommodate social distancing. The menu was extensive with options for almost every palate. We had the Beef Barbacoa Nachos appetizer and main dishes of Cajan Salmon and Fish and Chips. As a birthday surprise, we were provided with a Flowerless Chocolate Torte dessert, which was delicious. The food portions were a good size and the meal was very tasty. Also, the service was excellent and we have Laura to thank for that. This restaurant is a definite "HIT" for me, and I recommend it for a nice meal out.More
My daughter, son in law, and grandkids were visiting from out of town and bought the entire family dinner. I had the 10oz Strip and it was impeccable to say the least! the rest of the food looked amazing but back to that steak whoa...let me tell you that steak was on a level above and beyond anything I've seen from any restaurant in a long time. I mean it was $40 so it better be damn good and it was so much better then that. You absolutely pay for what you get here infact its worth every penny probably the best take out meal I've had during this covid thing.More
After having a horrible experience at Wisky John's and swearing I would never go out to eat again Thank you Brock House for restoring my faith in dinning out....... After a 4 hour hike with my daughter I had no energy left in me to...make something to eat so we decided to go for a late lunch, early super (LunSup) with hesitation because of that awful experience at Whiskey John's........ As we pulled up the parking lot was empty and that raised a red flag. We then proceeded inside and I saw a gentleman with long hair and Jean's and thought, oh great here we go again as we were greeted by him. I can honestly say I was delightfully surprised by his demeanor. He was very professional and accommodating and had us laughing and sat down promptly in a nice private clean fine dining space...... Our waiter attended to us in great time and was very helpful in directing me to the perfect beverage which I enjoyed immensely after the hike. As he served our drinks he rhymed off the speacials but we were both sold on the Prime rib and 4 Mushroom Pizza........ In the perfect amount of time both our food was delivered to the table. We started right into our meals and basically moaned in satisfaction as our taste buds were tantalized by the chef's masterpieces, my compliments to the kitchen......... Thanks again to "The Brock House" for restoring my faith in dinning out. You brought a perfect end to the day in a long over due fine dining out experience!!!More
Went back to thus restaurant after a 3 year hiatus when the owner said "..if you don't like it, don't come back" yes the owner! As restaurants are just opening up here in Durham and we were cebrating a birthday, we decided to give small...local businesses a boost, we decided to try The Brock House once again.......well, although the prime rib was tasty it was luke warm along with the veggies. The double baked potato was piping hot but very dry. I gave never had a double based potato baked then put back in the oven to melt the cheese. My experience has been the white if the potato gets mashed so when it is baked for the second time it is not dry as it was on this case. The waitress was lovely and offered to heat it up. We were do far into the luke warm meal and with the one hour time restriction we didn't want to be rushed and refused the offer. VERY disappointed that the owner didn't even show face! I guess I will take business elsewhere from now own. GOODBYE TBH for the last time. Don't know how you've stayed in business with such an attitude to the people of Whitby who have supported you over the years. Goodbye!More
The real stars here are staffs. Food is that good we will be back again. Menu is balanced. Recommended.
I ordered the boneless beef short rib. The mash potatoes and au jus were delicious. The veg were carrots and green beans with asparagas The green beans were fresh and crispy. The carrots were very good. I passed on the asparagas. The beef short rib...was ok but there was very little of it on the plate. It was gone in 4 bites. Overall the service was ok. The meal itself was alright but at $30. was way overpriced.More
