The restaurant is very pleasant, modern and clean. We came for dinner, were seated immediately and presented with water and the menu. Unlike in other reviews, the service was spotty, with the server disappearing in the kitchen for extended periods. Also, the server did not...seem interested at all in helping us chose dishes, although we were clearly out of our depth in perusing the menu. We settled on dishes that either looked interesting or had been recommended by other patrons before. As the restaurant filled up, dishes came out in very irregular intervals, probably as the cook was able to get them done, but it made for a somewhat disjointed eating experience. For example, the naan came about 10 minutes after the meat dish, although the two needed to be eaten together. We observed the same thing happening at another table, so maybe it's the way it's supposed to be. The quality of the food was excellent, the dishes savoury without being hot. We'll be back, but hope that we'll be given a bit more guidance in exploring this unusual and tasty cuisine. Certainly worth a try!More

I went at lunch and got the small chicken dish (or TOHOGOSHI NARIN (S) as I think it's written on the menu). It was absolutely incredible! This is some of the best food (maybe even the best) I have had in this Kithcner/Waterloo region. To...top it off it was cheap! For $12 I had more than enough food for two meals. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!More

We had some lovely dishes obviously made with love. We are new to Uyghur cuisine, but we had the lamb and potato dish and something else over noodles. It was filling, perfectly cooked and nicely spiced. Not too expensive, and interesting to try.

After driving by this place numerous times in its out-of-the-way location in the university district of Waterloo, my wife and I finally went here for a late night dinner after work. Glad that it's open until 10 pm! And while parking in front of the...building is usually full, there is paid parking across the street in a Wilfred Laurier parking lot for $3.00/hr, which is about what you'll need in terms of time. We found the interior to be clean and simple with some appropriate cultural decor (the Uyghurs are a Muslim ethnic group of Turkish origin that live in NW China). There were only a few customers at that time of night who appeared to be Asian students. As an older Caucasian couple, we felt a little out of place but there was lots of seating and we were determined to try the food! It was hard to choose a couple of dishes because there was so much to choose from and because we were not familiar with Uyghur food. There are appetizers (mostly salads, both vegetable and with meat), soups, vegetarian dishes, and traditional Uyghur dishes, many featuring hand-made noodles along with beef or lamb. Apart from two chicken dishes, most of the food appeared to be savory rather than spicy (hot). We finally decided on the Bogdan Lagman (hand-made noodles topped with Uyghur-style stir-fried beef and vegetables) and Gosh Nan (pan-grilled meat pie). The first dish was beautifully presented and looked delicious (see photo). The handmade noodles were definitely heavier than normal pasta. The vegetables and beef were well seasoned and delicious, aided by the rich broth in the deep plate. The broth was actually so good that we finished it up with a spoon! The meat pie was especially savory with strong flavours of cumin and cilantro. Wow! Our only regret was not ordering something to drink. We opted for just water, which turned out to be room-temperature tap water :/ The bill came to just over $30. They accept cash, debit, and Visa, but not MasterCard. We are planning to return soon to try out some of their other dishes! Highly recommend this place if you are looking for food that is uniquely different, tasty, and savory rather than spicy in terms of flavour.More

Four of us had lunch here on a cold Saturday afternoon. Each of us ordered a traditional Uyghur dish with Lagman Noodles. Two of the dishes had flat noodles with beef and two of the dishes had rounded, irregular noodles. The noodles were delicious. The...beef had bits of bone but it was very tasty. My uyghur style stir-fried meat and vegetables was also tasty. If you love noodles and want to try something different, yet familiar, this may be the place for you.More

We came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch for two. The waitress was helpful in recommending what people usually order and their portion sizes. We decided to just order two dishes even though it was likely too big for the two of us. We...ordered the M2 and M7, both with great noodles. Personally I enjoyed the M2 better (the spicy chicken) because I love the spicy touch and how it added to the potatoes and chicken, and also because the fat noodles just appeal to me better. The M7 is also pretty good though, with thinner hand pulled noodles and more of a sweet and sour taste to the veggies and beef. For two people I feel like the M2 and an app would be enough - we ended up taking half our food home to go. Overall, the food is amazing and i would definitely return. Only complaint is that it's a bit on the pricy side ($18 for the M2).More

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for months and finally made it. Clean, modern and inviting with excellent service. Food was just exceptional and the flat home made noodles are to die for. The flavours of both dishes we ordered were amazing. Beware...- the portions are very large; do not over order! This restaurant will become a favorite of oursMore

After reading a few reviews , we decided to stop in and have a look at their menu . After realizing how different the food was we ordered two items and soup for take out. We tried the fried spicy lamb organs with side of...rice ( not for everyone) we really enjoyed this. Ban mian (special bogda) the homemade noodle were hand made we saw the cook make them through the curtain covering the kitchen while we waited!! The overall dish was very good. :)) The most interesting item we tried was tomato egg drop soup, loved it, would go back just for that, as well to try some new items. Nice to have a new cultures food join the area , a must try!!!More

Three of us decided to try something we've never had before. The obvious choice in Kitchener-Waterloo is the Bogda Restaurant. It is the only restaurant I know of that serves Uyghur dishes. In fact, I suspect most people don't even know how to pronounce 'Uyghur'...let alone be familiar with their food. Unfortunately, Bogda is in the north-west corner of Waterloo but it's well worth finding and trying some of the unique dishes. By the way, the Uyghurs (a Turkic ethnic group) live in central Asia in the remote north-west corner of China. We were there for lunch and shared several dishes. We ordered some tomato egg drop soup, naan, lamb kebabs , beef dumplings, and ban mian. The tomato egg drop soup sounds so very ordinary but wait till you taste it. Absolutely delicious. The naan was dry and not very appealing. Perhaps that's how the Uyghurs like it but it's the only food we left behind. Mind you, some of it was good for dunking into the soup. The lamb kebabs were tender and very tasty. The beef dumplings were also very good and they resembled dumplings you might get in a Dim Sum restaurant. The ban mian with incredibly long home-made noodles was my favourite dish. It was made with various vegetables and some lamb. If you like fresh, home-made noodles, this is a 'must try' dish. The service was very friendly and helpful. Since we've never had Uyghur food we had lots of questions. The restaurant and the washroom was very clean. We will be back. It's one of those places you have to take your friends so they can experience this unique cuisine.More
