The restaurant was very busy, which is always a good sign bartender was super friendly. A+ for staff and manager that were hopping the entire time.
Here’s my first impression of my half rack pork ribs with smokey BBQ sauce, cheesy mac and cheese, root...slaw and garlic bread.
A very good meal, but could be better.Four stars could easily have been five.
The ribs were perfectly cooked and delicious! They really could have used more sauce for me as one of the great parts of BBQ anything is lots of that great sauce. I asked for a side order of sauce and problem solved, but just brush a fresh thick layer on before serving.
The mac and cheese was delicious. A nice mix of flavours. Sort of a slightly spicy with a bit of heat version and it was a tastebud reward.
On to the slaw. I was a bit surprised by the first bite, but as the flavours settled in I have to say I really enjoyed it. Very nice.
The garlic bread was a major disappointment. Was hard and not warm to the touch. Reminds me of that leftover bread you heat up in the microwave the next day. This was not a delayed service issue, so can’t blame the waitress as the rest of the meal was hot. I think the kitchen just let this one slide and tossed it on the plate at the very end or pre-prepped some toast to meet the rush. Not sure, but an “F” on the toast.
One recommendation for the plating. Well, not so much the plate, but the black paper, sort of parchment paper, under the ribs. Never ever serve the meat on something that might end up in the meat. Simple rule.
The paper underneath the ribs soaked up the moisture and sauce and with a bit of knife and fork action that paper became part of your amazing rib dish. Lose the paper! It serves no purpose at all. Does it help with the presentation; black paper on a black plate? No
It does not reduce cleanup either as you still need to wash the plate. All it does is ruin the best part of this dish.
Just serve the food on a plate. That’s what plates are for. Fast food and donair shops use paper, as they don’t have dishes.
My advice to anybody who orders the ribs, toss the paper aside and chow down on your low-fibre diet.
Anyhow, bitchin’ aside, great vibe and atmosphere and ass-busting staff. I would come again!More
