I wasn’t going to write a review but when I read the other recent reviews I thought I had to add our experience as well. In the past we were always pleased with Gaia and were hoping for a delicious take out experience. We preordered...our food well in advance and gave a time when we would arrive from our cottage. On the drive in we called to confirm and they clearly had forgotten about our order. We arrived ten minutes later to be told it was a 5-10 minute wait. Well it wasn’t. We had to ask several times over 30 minutes for our order. Others who came In after us were also late getting their orders - one customer was getting “sos” service. (Our friends who also ordered had very late delivery as well.) When it arrived - after leaving to eat in another location - we discovered: no cutlery, no napkins. Which we can understand as an oversight. But to forget sauce on the buttered chicken and to not put gravy on the poutine - which is what makes poutine. My husband was not able to eat his fish and had an upset stomach all night from the terrible batter. ( One positive to be fair - the noodles were great. ) But the total experience was awful - service was poor, food for 2 of 4 horrific. We would never go back until the kitchen improves. It appears others have had the same experience.More

I recently had lunch at Gaia and was unable to eat it. It was fish and chips very burnt. I asked for manager but was ignored. I have been there several times but each visit it goes down hill. No more.

We did have hopes for this place because their menu did have several gluten free options on it which my husband requires. His meal was just OK, he had ribs and a salad. Poor quality, all from a bag. I had the butter chicken. Oh...my, had to be up there with one of the worst meals I have ever been served. It was absolutely dry, zero sauce on it. Even the rice was bad. Pretty sure it all came out of a bag and was microwaved. In today's world we understand about staffing problems which was why I didn't send my food back. The server was very inexperienced. She stuck her finger in husbands cole slaw, spilt most of it on the floor and asked him if he wanted it. He said no. It stayed on the floor the whole time. She did not bring another cole slaw. He asked for a coke. She brought a can, no glass. We could forgive her for all that, she will learn. But the food quality was terrible. Won't be back.More

I wish I could review the food, but we never got a chance to eat. We made a reservation for our family to eat here on our last night of a two week stay visiting my parents in town. We were led to our table...and then… ignored. Just utterly and completely. My parents are locals but from where we were sitting the servers could mostly see my husband and I, who aren’t. Which might explain why we were essentially invisible? After 20 minutes of watching servers building bounce to all the other tables- including ones that arrived after us - one finally stopped by ours to say she was too busy to take our order yet, but that was probably for the best because the kitchen was so behind that even if she put in our order, it would be a long time before they got to it. Then she left! At no point did she offer us water, or ask if we had any questions, or anything. She just disappeared for another 15 minutes before finally arriving at our table and asking if we knew what we wanted. At this point we’d been in the restaurant for 35 minutes - without being offered water, or really any kind of attention. When I mentioned that my kids wanted water, she snapped that she had planned to bring that next. Which means that 40? 45? minutes in (who knows how long it would have taken her to get back to our table?) we might finally have gotten this first and most basic item of service. I next asked if the kitchen, being so busy, would be able to fully focus on keeping my food celiac-safe, a question that anyone with celiac knows is legitimate. Our food needs to be prepared with care to avoid cross-contamination! When she breezily dismissed this as a ridiculous question (to me it’s really not) we were done. When we told her we were leaving she stomped off in a huff. Luckily for us we were able to head home and just make a late dinner there. For travelers who don’t have their own kitchen as a back-up - or who don’t have hours to spend just waiting for service - this might not be your best option.More

The menu looked great. As a vegetarian I was delighted to see that a lot of the main items had vegetarian and vegan options. After waiting for about half an hour for our waitress to take our mains order, I ordered the Jamaican bowl, our...waitress asked what I would like in it and I told her jackfruit. "Jackfruit" she said. We then waited with our fellow diners for at least another half an hour for our food to show up. Our water glasses remained empty despite our asking for a refill. When the food arrived I tucked in only to realize that she had brought me meat not jackfruit. I had eaten some of it. This was disgusting. Our waitress (an older grey haired woman) sent a poor young girl to do the apologising (we didn't see our waitress again). The young girl handled it very well. We learned that the kitchen had been doing a big take out order which was why the food was so slow for we customers sitting in the restaurant. When the bill arrived they had charged me for the tofu version which I had ordered (but couldn't eat) to replace the chicken. I refused to pay for it so a stern faced manager arrived at our table. We realized that she hadn't been told about the cock up. The waitress hadn't told her. In fairness my girlfriend said she enjoyed the food. If this had been an allergy issue someone could have died. When we visit restaurants we put our trust in those who serve our food. At Gaia my trust was violated.More

This area has many excellent seafood and Canadian homestyle restaurants. Gaia provides a welcome addition with its variety of international flavors. Nice atmosphere with local artwork on display. Cozy little bar. Great service.

This came recommended by our TRU by Hilton front desk. We didn't want to sit in for dinner, so we ordered the Jerk Chicken Tacos and the Chicken & Rice items to go - the tacos were really tasty and spicy but the Jerk flavour...would only get a 5/10 in my rating. I've eaten a lot of Jamaican jerk foods in my hometown of Toronto, and this meal was not quite there. I would visit here again (for dine in) just to try some other international flavours.More

We ate at a different restaurant arriving off the evening ferry (Sunday evening there are very few choices) and didn't have the best experience. So the night before getting on the ferry, we tried this one and it did not disappoint! The service and food...were both great. There are many choices (although not the traditional lobster/seafood fare we wanted when we first arrived in Nova Scotia) so everyone (including our picky 13 year old) found something they liked. Definitely would recommend.More

After a long ferry ride, we had a fantastic meal of tacos and Bangkok fries. Tia, our server, was a lot of fun and recommended just the right portion sizes for us. All in all, a fun place.

A wonderful menu full of delicious things! The tofu fish was excellent and the service was great. My server was very accommodating and allowed me to order the tofu fish as a taco dish. It was the best vegan fish taco I have ever eaten....Thoroughly enjoyed the decor as well as the food and the service. Highly recommend!More

Don't get me wrong I like fish n chips but Yarmouth is limited to choices especially when it comes to anything cultured. This is a much needed restaurant. I had Jamaican Jerk bow, a sangria and Creme Brule cheesecake...it was Bomb.com!

You didn't have the fish n chips I always come there for since it is definitely the best I have ever had, anywhere. So, I ordered an old standby , the steak sandwich. First of all, the meat was tough , appeared to have been...either steamed or boiled. (maybe reheated in a microwave) Almost impossible to chew. The steak should be thinly sliced and grilled on high heat. Whatever the spice was that was on it , it was very good but a combo steak and cheese sandwich should be made with a combo of mozzarella mix not a slice of plastic. I won't order it again. The service was as usual very good and the seating is comfortable. Warm and cozy inside.More

A great lunch with friends. Tables were spread out and servers all wore mask. There were separate entrance and exists and several disinfectants. Very Covid conscious. Felt very safe. And most importantly was the tasty food. Can’t go wrong with any of the items on...the menu.More
