We were visiting family in Gabarus Lake and I saw a YouTube video listing this as one of the top restaurants in Cape Breton so off we went! This was just a couple of days before Fiona so I hope everything is good there. First...off, we all found our food really excellent. I had the blackened seafood medley and my wife had the pork tenderloin. Both were excellent, I have to say the fish was among the best I've ever had! I did find the deserts a bit over sweet for me, I prefer pretty plain cheese cake. I also found the decor a bit too contemporary for me. The staff were great and hey had a good selection of local IPAs. Overall a great visit and I will definitely go back. If you are getting the ferry to NFLD, go here before you board but book! It gets busy.More

Stopped by on our way to check out the Ferries to Newfoundland. Had the Lunch Trio which consists of the Soup of the Day, 1/2 sandwich of the day and a salad. I along with my fellow diners all had the trio. The soup was...cauliflower, upgraded to a Caesar Salad plus the sandwich grill cheese and bacon. All of the food was fresh tasty with the soup especially having a homemade taste. The service was top notch. I want to sa that every server in the restaurant paid some level of attention to our table. Hope to be back soon. Still have to visit Isle Madame and the Black Spoon Bistro is along the way.More

All amazing staff, friendly and respectful and empathetic! Ate here with my mother recently while eating to catch ferry to Argentia. Delicious meals and dessert. We asked (& got) foil to wrap the leftovers in to take on the ferry. Prices quite reasonable. Here’s mine:...Lunch Trio w/ an upgrade to the Roasted Veggie Salad (So with half a sandwich and soup) and Skor Caramel Cheesecake! Score! This place is prob not even 5 mins walk from the terminal! So get to the ferry terminal early, check in, park your car, walk through the terminal & outside… walk to the LEFT, up the slope road next to Tim’s & cross the street.. it’s about the 4th (?) establishment.More

This place is amazing!! Just had lunch with my husband and sister and hubby. Mike is a wonder chef and Tory is a blast! 2 minute walk to ferry terminal. We had roasted red pepper soup, chicken mushroom and Swiss panini with a roasted garlic...and Parmesan aioli. So good! You can’t go wrong!!!More

We had an excellent meal here after a lengthy ferry crossing from Newfoundland. We were unable to dine in but the staff were extremely helpful in accommodating our takeout order which we enjoyed at a nearby waterfront park. Scallop pasta, chicken piccata and seafood chowder...were all exceptional!More

We arrived for dinner for 4, and didn't make reservations, next time we will do. The Hostess found us a table and we settled in, we asked for 2 coffee, and two tea, and prompt go that. The water for the tea was not boiled...water, not hot at all. We ordered two appetizers to share, stuffed mushrooms, and spring rolls. Both were very good, but as special everybody loved the spring rolls in a delicate Asian sauce. For the main dishes two ordered the blackened fish platter with scallops, and shrimp, and haddock. Garlic, peppers, dry tomato mashed potato, and Julienne cut vegetables. These two meals were excellent, very flavorful. One person had pan fried haddock, also with the same mashed potatoes, and the Julienne cut vegetables, one word for it excellent. The 4th person had pecan crusted chicken, with garlic mashed potatoes and the Julienne vegetables, also very good. Two of us had dessert, I had chocolate layer cake, with whipping cream, and my friend had a caramel drizzle cake, with whipping cream, both were lovely served on a plate.More

Delightful little Bistro in North Sydney conveniently located near the Ferry Terminal. The menu was excellent with vegan and gluten-free friendly options. The atmosphere was great. The service was first rate. We reccomend the fish chowder, the grilled vegetable salad and caesar salad as well...as the thai soup. All-in-all highly recomend this delightful spot.More

I don’t really care for fish and/or seafood but this restaurant will convert anyone. We had the blackened scallops, shrimp and haddock… to die for! I’ll recommend to all my friends. PS Don’t forget to reserve your table, this place attracts quite a crowd

We came by for a family dinner for 3. One of us had scallop linguine and two of us ordered the blackened seafood medley. The fish, scallops and shrimp were cooked perfectly. The blackened seasoning was just right. Often, chefs will put in too much...pepper. No rookie mistakes here, this dish was as good as any I have had in the deep south. There is also a decent enough wine menu. The Black Spoon is a rare gem in a small town at the tip of Canada. If you're in town, you have to eat here.More

This restaurant is hands down one of the best in Cape Breton, we have never had a bad meal here, it is always consistently fantastic! The owner usually comes around and personally checks to see if you’re enjoying your meal, great attention to detail.
