I was really excited to visit. The host was super awesome and managed to be super helpful on the phone and squeezed us in without a reservation on a Friday night. However, the rest of the service was seriously disappointing.
Our server approached us within...a couple of minutes of sitting and took our cocktail order. I told her we would know what food we wanted to order within a couple of minutes.
Half an hour later she finally delivered our drinks and took our appetizer order. As I went to order our entrees she had already whipped around and walked off.
After about half an hour more (before our appetizers arrived) I grabbed her attention [she kept walking past with no effort to make eye contact or check in] and I asked if we could order our mains and she took our order - at which point I also ordered a glass of wine.
Our entrees later arrived but I didn’t eat as I was waiting for my wine pairing. After 20 more mins went by I actually had to approach our server again, who had been chatting to the bartender (who also seemed to have been doing absolutely nothing for the last ten minutes whilst our server was polishing coffee cups) and told her I’d been waiting for my wine to eat my entree.
I guess it was just frustrating to watch the staff do nothing when we weren’t getting what we were needing or had ordered
- me and my friend had both received 1 drink each in the last hour and 20 minutes of sitting, despite our efforts.
Now listen, I was a server in Whistler for 3 years - I know how understaffed our venues can be, how stressful it is to not be able to provide my guests a good experience when busy - but it seemed like no part of what the staff were doing had the customer in mind. At the point where my food was going cold and I asked our server for my wine she even said “whoops, my bad”, and I then saw her type in the order for the very first time.
Also, what started off as a busy restaurant was basically dead by the time our entrees came because our server took so very long to take our orders of things. As mentioned, it was about an hour in when I finally managed to get my entree order to her.
I know people make mistakes, and have bad days, and I know there’s days that I’ve served and been forgetful and worried about how that’s effected the customer, but the server just didn’t seem to be rushing at all, or feel bad about being inattentive - there was also no recognition of how very long things were taking. It’s a horrible feeling when you’re made to feel like an inconvenience and an afterthought, as a customer.
If this is the level of service being offered generally - I would be very concerned for this business.
For the supposed, “finest dining in Squamish” the service was seriously disappointing.
I feel kinda guilty even writing this review… but when you’re offering small portioned high-end, high-priced food the service should match and here there was a serious disparity. I would honestly be disappointed with this level of service at a dive bar.
I would like to note though that the wine was excellent, and the food was very well executed, if not portioned a little on the small side (which is why I have given 2 stars and not 1).
Just an opinion from someone who’s worked in the industry. Sadly, night ruined :(More
