Fairly good place.

We visited on a Friday night. Place was fairly packed downstairs, so went and got a table upstairs - bit more quiet ! My wife had their beef & prawn pho, while I had the fish tacos. Food was great and well portioned. All in with 2 drinks and a shared dessert came to $60-ish with tip.

Fully recommend, we had a group of 12 and they could handle us with ease. Pub type food, good variety of local beer on tap, wait staff were quite attentive so no complaints. If you want a real “local” experience, probably not the best choice, but they operate smoothly.

tasty fish and chips

enjoyed our meal here. pretty view and personable service. nice area for a stroll on a warm evening. both of us tonight chose the cod fish and chips. the fish arrived piping hot and tasted very fresh, fresher than most. a bit put off by what we considered heavy beer batter. but it was edible. the fries were nice and sturdy to hold the ketchup and the tasty house made lemon-caper tartar sauce if you like. the flavor profile of included pickle slaw was definitely unique. not a big pickle fan really, but it was a nice palate cleanser. the portion was very, very small. almost like a condiment cup. for the meal cost, think it should be a bit larger. the meal and the location were worth it o our visit. would try again.

Most Poorly Spent $24 (plus tax) In My Life...even if i were a rabbit!!!

Had a $24 salad, HIGHLY recommended by waitress (Cobb salad) - and it was the worst - terrible. It was small, bacon was dried up, filled with raw onions (which I requested NO onions) and I had to pick them out and leave them on the table, and the dressing tasted like a tasteless Kraft bottled dressing. There was maybe a teaspoon of dressing or less dribbled on the top, so of course, I ran out of dressing and had a dry salad. Waitress never came by - even with me tediously plucking out the raw onions and she never asked how everything was...I was waiting for that. I was forced to chew on some dry lettuce, a few dried-up hard pieces of bacon and slivers of carrot. Half the salad was left on the plate when the waitress finally made her debut perhaps an hour later, and said, "oh you must have really filled up and can't eat the rest...". I told her it was dry, no dressing and not good at all. She said she'd get me more dressing...which is a joke - I'm not going to fish out the napkin and eat the rest now when we want to leave!!! She asked what we had planned the rest of the day, and I told her I was going home to make some food because I was starving. Still, got charged full price and NO apology! NO questions, NO apology - NOTHING! This is our usual haunt, but I am not going back!

Food was mediocre to say the least. Vegetables in clam chowder were undercooked, looked like it was scrambled and rushed cooking. My friends ordered fire trackers oysters, that looked like clumps of heavy breaded substance, no oysters to be seen. At the end the waitress told us if don't leave a tip, she has to give her own money to the kitchen stuff. Very disappointing experience. Absolutely not recommended.

A second disappointing meal at the Riptide prompts this review. The last time I brought a group of six for lunch and my Beef dip was sinewy and a bit too pink for a sandwich, the bread was soggy before the strong tasting au jus. Today we celebrated my birthday and I had steak and mushroom linguine, the steak was on a skewer and was cremated, the linguine sauce tasted like milk and corn starch. Herb seasoning was undetectable. We had a birthday cake in my honour and it was still frozen in the middle. I have eaten at the Riptide many times and I would say the food quality is in decline. We were a group of eight and post meal review was equally critical.

Hostess turning away a lot of business

We get there at 7:15 and the hostess tells us that the kitchen closes at 8, so we more than likely wouldn’t get any food. She had the biggest attitude. We thought that we would take our chances on the food. We should have left because it literally take 20 minutes for anyone to speak to us and 45 minutes before we got our wine and waters. As we were waiting, I watched the hostess turn away a lot of potential revenue. I hope that the Riptide can stand losing so many potential customers, because she turned away a lot of people. My wife’s salmon came out raw and my came out burnt. Please don’t visit this place because it seems like they don’t need the business. Not worth the time and definitely not worth the price or headache.

Seafood chowder was the worst i have ever eaten

WE went to the Rip Tide for lunch I ordered the Seafood chowder and my wife had fish and chips The chowder has little taste most likely thee flour used to thicken it and it was as thick as wall paper paste To bad as they had some of the best home made soups around as we used to go all the time .The fish and chips was so so the chips were under cooked . Once the food was dumped off you never saw any one until they showed up with the bill would have been nice if some dah asked how the food was Will not be going back any time soon

Disrespectful staff with indifferent management

We met new friends there on a Saturday evening. The pub was incredibly quiet, however we enjoyed our visit. A table left just before us and we left right after them, before closing time. Walking to our cars, two staff member outside commented that it was about time we left. I was shocked and appalled by this behaviour. I brought this to the attention of a manage and judging by his reaction he doesn’t care. I have to ask, if this is how they treat customers to your face, how do they treat you and your food out of sight in the kitchen?

2nd Try Better Than First

We were staying in Campbell River for a week and tried this restaurant on our first night. The crab cakes were terrible, and the french onion soup was so salty it was barely edible. The waitress never did a quality check. She came by just after we got our food, but before we even had one bite, and asked us if we had everything we needed - which we did. Then she never came back again to see if things were ok. If she had, we would have told her. When she came to give us the bill, that was when she finally asked how things were, and when we told her, she actually argued with me that she had came and asked us and why didn't we say anything then? We had intended on paying the full bill, but she stomped off in a huff and ended up removing the crab cakes (which we didn't eat) from the bill. So I guess that was some redemption, despite her attitude. I don't believe in judging a place based on one experience, so we did decide to go back a few nights later. And it was much better. The waitress was extremely pleasant, and the food was much better. I had the seafood linguine - which is not as good as I had at another restaurant in town, but it was a much better meal than the first experience.

What a ripoff

Was here last year and enjoyed it. Came for dinner and drinks with friends tonight and I am purely disappointed. Service was average but my biggest complaint was the food. Ordered the fajitas at $23 I think and I got enough pork for two small fajitas and a handful of wilted lettuce. No cheese, no peppers and no onions you would normally expect when you order this dish anywhere else. Everyone else enjoyed their food but portions were small and prices were high. Won't be back.

Mixed feelings on this one!

Met up with old friends while in town on errands one day, and ended up going to the Riptide for lunch. The hostess won’t get awards for greeting guests, although the servers were very pleasant. One of the drinks ordered was incorrect ( even though they were all supposed to be the same?) and while one person didn’t want to finish the pizza they had been looking forward to, the rest of the food was good at a decent price. Good compliance with health regulations.

Service was good. Setting is nice. Fish and chip order was disappointing though. Chips were excellent but the fish was overcooked and lacking any fish! Mostly dry hard burnt batter. The cook should strive for better.

Three good appetizer’s made a meal

We really enjoyed pan-fried cornmeal crusted oysters. Ouzo spicy shrimp (small really not prawn sized?) was a treat. Dinner special with scallops and shrimp over purée of blue cauliflower was distinctly great. Service a bit wobbly and disorganized.

Hit and miss food

We had a sesame salmon salad where the salmon was unfortunately quite overcooked, crab cakes which I thought were pretty good but my wife found too salty, and a mussel and crab steam bowl with extra seafood which had no clams! The steam bowl was otherwise pretty good. Portions were very good and service was fine but overall the quality of the food could certainly be a lot better.
