Not what I expected

We travel through Strathmore a few times a year and recently began stopping for refreshments, although this was the first time we stopped at the Station. As we entered I noticed a Certificate of Excellence and thought "Should be good!" It was not as good as as COE labelled restaurant should be, in fact it was barely average. We were greeted and seated in a friendly manner, told our jug of water would be brought right away, which it was, then forgotten about (or ignored) as the server moved from table to table, only four of which were occupied, asking of coffee refills were needed etc. I normally do not mind this if the staff are busy, but there were only a dozen people in the place, and we had some very hungry kids with us. I tried to get some attention a couple of times, but with no luck. Finally the server came around for drink orders, and we were ready to order our meals as well. The kids meals were enormous and the boys really enjoyed them, but of course age and hunger may have had something to do with this. My clubhouse was really average and not spectacular, although how much extra can go into a sandwich, Where they really failed was in the french fry department....raw inside and barely warm on the outside, Like eating dough. I gave an average but this is a bit below taht on the scale. Lots of options for us travellers, so will not get a second chance.

The food was good, but I expected the restaurant to be better.

I enjoyed my fish and shrimp dish which came with seasoned vegetables, a Cesar salad, and fries. For the price, I got quite a bit of food. The waitress never told me that the poutine fries would be an extra five dollars ($5.00). The restaurant was located off of Highway-1 with a large parking lot. I felt that the waitress could have been friendlier.

Amazing food, Horrendous service!!

Came to The Station as we were driving through Strathmore and heard so many great things about. When we came down to the lounge the older gal working the bar and lounge rolled her eyes and didn't even acknowledge our existence. There were so many dirty tables but we did eventually find a clean table. When the server came over she threw the menus on the table the said "What to do want to drink" We ordered our drinks and she came back and then said "What do you want to eat" We were scared to talk but we said we needed a few minutes to decide. We decided and had our menus closed for a while before she came back and took our order in the unfriendliest way possible. Our food came out in a timely matter and OMG THE FOOD was amazing! HUGE PORTIONS. Noticed the server sitting at the bar on her phone for the most part when she should be cleaning the dirty tables etc. When it came time to pay the bill she just threw the debit machine on the table and walked away. I paid the bill and never got a "Thank you" or come again. We were the only table in the lounge and only a couple people sitting at the bar. She did not smile once. She seemed to really hate working here. And she's really hindering the reputation of such a great establishment. Never in my life have a I felt so scared in a establishment. However I will still visit this place again in the future but will dine upstairs and hope that the service is better up there.

Disappointed

Food quality seems to have gone way down. Not sure how many times you have to cook and freeze chicken to get the consistency of rubber but don't order the jambalaya. Got a to go box and then tossed it when I got home; wth was I thinking reheating that again. Used to think it was just over-priced but now it's not worth stopping unless you need to see women in tiny clothes. Far better options in Strathmore.

Maybe just a bad day but.....

My wife and I took her brother to the Station today for a birthday lunch. It was a bad decision. I ordered the Homemade Cod and Chips, she ordered a Steak Sandwich and her brother had a Shrimp Stirfry. He said his was ok, but left more than half the serving so I don't know whether he was just being kind. My wife ate about 1/3 of her steak then pushed it aside saying the meat was gristly, the french fries greasy and the vegetables cold. For my part, the cole slaw was very good, but that's as far as it went; the oil the fish and fries were cooked in wasn't hot enough and both were greasy and soggy -- barely edible. So much for the food. Our lunch took an hour and 45 minutes. We waited more than 20 minutes for our order to be taken, then everything from there on was slow. I had to ask, twice, to get my water glass refilled. Normally we get good service and great food at the Station so will probably give it one more chance, but unless it is much better than today's experience, next time will be our last.

Received the worst table in the place. Given one menu for the two of us. Ordered a bottle of wine (they have two reds) received the wrong one. Downhill from there. A place to avoid until they figure out a service model.

Decided to stop in Strathmore on our way to Red Deer. Checked out Google and picked the Strathmore Station Restaurant. Definitely the right choice. Very nostalgic with a ton of railway pictures. Met at door by maitre"d who welcomed us with a huge smile and directed us to a table on a balcony which we were able to oversee the whole restaurant (cooks/bar etc). Waitress was terrific, food was outstanding (I personally recommend the salt and pepper wings); although the salmon my wife had looked scrumptious (she said it was great). Definitely a restaurant we will visit if we are in the area again

First and last time

3rd class food; 1st class prices. I know it's a pub, but $4.95 for ONE glass of soda? Really? $20 for ONE piece of greasy, soggy fish and some limp, greasy fries? Indifferent server surely puts the makeup on with a trowel. Or gets an apprenticing embalmer to do it. One local business I won't ever be supporting again.

Nice lunch

Stopped for lunch on a long road trip. A bit pricey, but the ambience was nice and the service was good. Hubby really liked his pulled pork potato skins. I had a burger and it was pretty good. My step mom ate there previously and she said the turkey salad croissant sandwich is excellent, so if we pass back through I will try that.

Husband had turkey corn chowder and club and said it was really good. I had fish tacos and all that was added to the taco and fish was a scoop of dry shredded cabbage. There was a little sauce and cilantro added to the tops. I wouldn't order again. Service was great.

Restaurant and Pub.

I had the sirloin steak and it was fantastic with starter salad. Would have ordered wine and possibly a specialty coffee afterwards, but waitress was too busy with other tables, didn’t see her again until my meal and drink were long finished. However, as mentioned food was great, maybe next time I will put a full order in at the beginning. Pub downstairs had great staff and atmosphere.

Great location, rustic interior

Good food, inside was new build but in an old style, very welcoming. It is located next to a hotel....Travelodge so that might suit some people. We ate in the downstairs pub part, it was clean, bathrooms were clean and staff friendly and efficient.

Great food ,wonderful decor and service!

This was suggested by our friend and was very much a treat in every way! I had the club sandwich which was the best I have ever enjoyed any where. I also did a photo shoot inside as I come from a family of train loving people. Our waitress was just the right mix of adorable,helpful and efficient!

Small town steak

Right from the start everything was great. We had a large group and they handled everything great. Server was nice and quick. I had the sirloin steak and it was excellent. You could cut it with a fork. Everything was hot and fresh. Must try if you are in town.

Excellent time.

Birthday supper. 12 people. Fast service by our waiter and servers. Food was very tasty, hot and delicious. Servers were very attentive. Have not been here for quite awhile but will go back soon.
