Excellent Schnitzel & Lovely Staff

This was our first time dining in a restaurant since March due to Covid, and it was a great experience. We were seated in a private room (I guess due to distancing limits - the main room of the restaurant was as full as permitted by rules keeping everyone apart). Despite this, our server was attentive and we never felt forgotten. This restaurant gets an excellent rating on the basis of the food though. Their chicken schnitzel was excellent - tender, crispy, not greasy and very tasty. Roast potatoes were good and the spaetzle was nice. The whole menu looked good, but we were craving schnitzel.

We've been to Gananoque four times over the years. Each time, we've gone here. We've had the same server every time. The same quality of food everytime. And both are fantastic. Server is now the owner, and she's a great person. The food Is always fantastic. They offer smaller portions of schnitzel too which was great if you aren't that hungry. We will be back again next time we're driving in that direction.

Had a lovely evening meal but glad we got there before 6PM because it filled up quickly. I had a Rahm Shnitzel and my wfie had Beef Rouladen. Both were excellent and good value for the money. Ths staff were very friendly and when it got busy even the chef was helping at the tables. Highly recomended.

My mom and I had a horrible experience at this restaurant. The service was unbelievably slow and when the food finally came out it tasted like it was from a frozen microwave meal. My mom ordered a tomato salad and it literally was one tomato sliced and slapped on a plate. Yet it was very pricey. We respectfully complained about the service and cost of the low quality food but we were met with very rude staff and owners. Quote from the owner: "If you don't pay then we will call the cops". I will NOT go back and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I hardly ever write reviews but this experience was so bad I feel compelled to warn others.

Very poor customer interest

I called today to ask about details regarding the menu. I had checked online but it kept scrolling past each page after 3 seconds. I called the restaurant. I mentioned the online issue and that there was not a pause function. In a surly tone from a male voice I was told I could "figure it out". When I asked if a menu could be forwarded as an email I was told no. There was a quick hang up before asking me to call back later, or to ask for my contact information.

Quiet, not expensive place that goes through self-determination crisis

We get there around 2pm, and it was empty. We ordered borscht and perogies, salads, junior schnitzel and burger. What they call "borscht" is just watery, pinky veggie soup in a tiny plate. No rich flavor... meh... it deserves only "meh". I saw how they were microwaving it... Perogies were good, tho. I was distracted so I am not sure if they were also microwaved. "Junior schnitzel" is going right after the "Pork schnitzel" in their menu, so we decided that it is a chicken one, but unfortunately it was also a pork schnitzel. We probably had to ask before ordering, but it does not eliminate the fact that description in menu is poor, cause "fried to perfection" can easily be replaced by "pork", or maybe they hint that they other schnitzels are not fried to perfection. Not sure. Salads were 90% lettuce, but looked okay. Burger? They brought it plain one, but we asked for some greens, and the waiter brought everything we needed. Kids liked burger. The staff was very friendly (really bright spot), but food is, let's say, around average. Maybe I am still offended by borscht.

My husband and I occasionally come to Gananoque to go to the 1000 Island Playhouse and we like to go out for dinner before. This weekend we decided to try the Maple Leaf Restaurant based on its good reviews. The Service: I phoned and made reservations, but when we arrived we were left standing at the door (along with two other parties) for a good 10-15 minutes before anyone even acknowleged us. When someone did acknowlege us and we told them we had reservations, they pointed to an empty table that was right by the door and where everyone was standing. I did notice a window table with a reservations sign on it that no one was sat at the entire time we were there, so unsure why we not given that table? An elderly woman with a walker and her grandson, were left to stand a good 20 minutes, only to be told that they could not sit them as they were too busy. Why were they not told this when they first walked in? Two minutes later, someone walked in off the street and was sat. We later saw they elderly woman and her grandson at the theatre and they were unable to have dinner anywhere by the time they got out. We ordered drinks, but they must have forgotten them, as they did not come before our food. We were sitting at the table waiting for the drinks for 15-20 minutes. The Food: My husband and I decided to try their speciality which was the schnitzel. When the drinks and main course did come, both my husband and I found the schnitzel to be VERY BLAND . There was also a lack of vegetables on the plate. Neither and myself or my husband felt like eating the dinner, and decided we better not order dessert, or we would miss our play. (it was at this time after 7pm and we arrived at 5:45) We both felt disappointed with our dinner night out, a combination of the very slow service (that made us fell anxious about being late for our 7:30 play) and the very bland food. We, unfortunately, will not be returning.

There is no German restaurant in Toronto; so were happy to find this place that makes good central European food. They had good schnitzel and good goulash. The desserts were tasty but not German or Austrian. The house wine was good. The prices were a bit steep by Toronto standards.

Never disappoints….

Finally got our “Maple Leaf Restaurant” Schnitzel Fix again. Long anticipated, we stopped on the way back from Kingston to Brockville. It didn’t disappoint, never has ! Great beer on tap, super delicious sweet potato dill soup followed by a deliciously tender “ Rahm Schnitzel “ with Spaetzle and coleslaw, plenty of food, leaving no room for dessert, but why not take an Apple Strudel home for dessert later :). So glad to see Pav & Michelle doing what they do best again, creating a wonderful atmosphere for a great yummy lunch. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed !

Amazing food, service and terrace…and dog frendly!

We were told that the resto was dog friendly on the terrace…so we arrived with our two small dogs and were warmly greeted. The terrace was as advertised in the photos. As my gf is Czech, we knew everything on the menu and opted for two specials. She had the goulash which was amazing. I had a veal schnitzel with a dark Czechvar draft and felt like I was back in Usti…or Praha…. We are going back for more of this amazing food experience.

A large group of 15 of us went to have dinner at this restaurant before heading to the play 'Back to '59'. This is a family restaurant. They accommodated us in the back room, service was excellent, food was delicious and staff were attentive to detail. Definitely worth a stop for schnitzel.

I saw they were having a "Special" on Pork Schnitzel Jr. I looked at the menu and the prices are higher than most so I ordered the special. Food was OK, nothing "special" but when the bill came their was no special price on Pork Schnitzel Jr. It seems their special doesn't include any reduction in price from what was on the menu. Definitely not a special in my mind. I asked about this policy and why they even call it a special but no real response. It was a pretty pricey lunch at the end of the day and I will look somewhere else for a true daily special.

Great dinner

Great dinner in a spacious and quaint. There were three of us and we took a pasta for our 4-year-old, hearty and good dish, smoked salmon with capers for me, very good, a fish burger for my husband accompanied by mixed salad and very tasty chips, all accompanied by water and two beers. I count average Canadian dinners. Recommendation.

Awesome Czech Food - worth the visit

My wife and I were travelling through Ganonoque and checking out local shops (and a flea market) and stopped for lunch here. It's hard to tell from the name (unless you read the fine print), but it is a Czech schnitzel house. I wish they would update their signs and/or name to include that more prominently because this place is well worth trying! We were seated and brought drinks. We had soft drinks but they have a full bar here, including a couple of Vzech beers on tap (Czehvar AKA Budvar and Pisner Urquell, AKA Pivo Pradroj) and they have the national drink Becherovka, which is well worth sampling. As a large party was just coming in and getting settled, our server asked if we wanted to order to get our orders in before the big one - that was very nice. The menu has a mix of Czech specialities , Eastern Europe food, and Schnitzels. My wife ordered the Rahm Schnitzel which was a beautiful pork cutlet, very lightly breaded and fried and served with a mushroom cream gravy - outstanding. I had the pork paprikash - sort of a goulash with potato dumplings which was excellent. The food here is clearly made from fresh ingredients and prepared perfectly. Having lived in Germany for a few years (and having visited the Czech Republic), I would stack these dishes up with what I had in Europe any day. Service is attentive and friendly and the food is exceptional. Highly recommended!
