About
350 year old building from Bavaria, Germany, brought to Kimberley BC in 1989. We serve Bavarian specialties as well as regional favourites. Our most popular menu item is our Bavarian Feast group menu and our Schweine Haxen -braised pork hock(24 hour pre-order). We prepare everything in our own kitchen including our fresh baked bread, desserts, and sausages. We are strong believers in supporting our local economy and work with growers, diary farmers and vineyards in our region. We are proud to support our industry employing a fantastic staff of 18 teaching them our values of food preparation and customer service. We invite you for an evening at The Old Bauernhaus Restaurant. Guten Appetit.

Wow. We were so impressed with our experience tonight! The story of this historic imported building was an appetizer in itself. The sharp and accommodating staff made a quick switcheroo for our number of guests. We didn’t want to choose just one dish so the...Bavarian feast was a perfect option for our group - it’s basically a nine course meal - with a plentiful portion of all the favourites. To find out that just about everything can be made gluten free was a huge bonus for us. The wine list is curated locally, the food was perfectly prepared (the sausages!!), and the room is about as charming as you can get. The highlight of our night was our server, Ann. Knowledgeable, quick witted, and the most delightful laugh - Ann looked after us as if she were hosting a dinner party in her own kitchen. We had a really wonderful night at Old Bauernhaus, and you certainly will too.More

Made a dinner reservation for this place after reading the reviews and was looking forward to a great meal. Came away very disappointed.I ordered the veal schnitzel and got quite a large piece of meat ( I have never had veal schnitzel that size anywhere...before) It had very little flavour and had to ask for a steak knife to cut it as was so tough and stringy. Also ordered mushroom sauce, was very watered sown with a few mushrooms, it as well had no flavour and came at an extra cost of 5$ . Two other members of our party had pork schnitzel which they said have no flavour, was tough and when the coating was removed looked like a piece of pork roast, no indication it had been tenderized by pounding with tenderizer. One member of our group had the pork hock( requires pre ordering and he said it was good. The service however was very good but not enough to overlook the sub par food. Sorry but I can not sayI would recommend this place. .Last year we made a visit to Radium & had schnitzel in a restaurant there which was excellent so was another reason found this so disappointing.More

Name a country and I've probably travelled there. And I'm a big foodie. The Old Baurnhaus is easily in my top 10 places in the world to eat. Authentic, rustic food, exquisite service. Best vibe in there ever. Order the European Feast, with shared platters....You will roll out of the restaurant if you choose to eat it all.More

We walked into what we were told was the number one restaurant in town to find it set up with plank tables and hard wooden chairs. The prices on the menu cant be beat though, you will find 2 regular garden salads, a beer and...a glass a wine costs $50 with tip! Crazy expensive! Since when did a salad cost ten bucks. We were not impressed.More

The difference between a good and great restaurant is when they great restaurant goes the extra mile. If you want to charge the big bucks for a meal then that extra service/ mile has to be a given! The food was good, it was good,...tasty and exactly what we ordered. So the service was not a wow. Whilst waiting for our food two of party wanted a cocktail to start. It should automatic that when the food arrived the server should ask whether they want wine with their meal. NO we had to ask for her to come over so we could ask for a glass of white wine. large wine list if you want a bottle, but my friends wanted a glass. "Sorry we do not have a glass of the type of wine you want". There are now two options that a WOW restuarant would take: offer to open a bottle of wine and use that for the house wine or if they knew they had run out of house white wine, send someone to the local liquor store to purchase. No my friend had to have water with her high class meal. Then we wanted some pepper. A WOW restaurant would check prior to service that all the pepper mills were full and working. By the time we sorted out the water over wine fiasco, we had already eaten our meal and could not be bothered to ask for a pepper mill with pepper in it. The food was good, service mediocre, but if you want to charge the big bucks then make sure that you go the extra mile so we leave feeling WOW what a great meal rather than, lets get out of here as we can have dessert and drink at home.More

We were very disappointed with this restaurant. The schnitzel could not have been much thinner. And so overdone! Everything tasted leftover. The spaetzel and red cabbage. Unlike the outstanding Austrian meal in Radium. Perhaps it was the end of the evening for them. We were...seated next to a bunch of drunks which likely didn’t improve the situation. The service was good. I’d give this restaurant a miss. Much better elsewhere.More
